In Debate with Breitbart's Shapiro, CNN's Piers Morgan Calls the Constitution 'Your Little Book'
Breitbart ^ | 1/10/13 | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 01/10/2013 9:49:05 PM PST by Nachum

“You come in here, brandish your little book as if I don’t know what’s in there--”

“My little book? That’s the Constitution of the United States. It’s our founding document, Piers.”

“I know what’s in your Constitution.”

“Do you really?”

That was the climax of a heated debate between Breitbart News Editor-at-Large Ben Shapiro and CNN’s Piers Morgan on live television this evening--one in which Morgan came off much the worse for wear.

Shapiro began by pointing out that for weeks, Morgan had bullied guests who defend the right to bear arms by "standing on the graves of the children of Sandy Hook."

“How dare you,” said a rattled Morgan.

“I have seen you do it repeatedly,” Shapiro replied.

He challenged Morgan to explain whether he wanted to ban all guns, not just “assault rifles,” since the vast majority of gun deaths involve ordinary handguns. “Why don’t you care about banning the handguns in Chicago?” Shapiro asked him.

Morgan, who later stated that he supported Americans’ right “to defend themselves with a handgun or a pistol,” pointed out that the weapons used in recent sensational mass shootings had been “assault rifles,” and insisted that the debate was not one of “left and right,” because his position ought to be the consensus, as in Britain. Shapiro countered that the basis of the Second Amendment was not self-defense or hunting, but the ability to resist government tyranny--a point that Morgan attempted to mock, unsuccessfully.

Shapiro’s statement is worth quoting in full:

Shapiro: I think the reason that it’s about left and right here is because fundamentally, the right believes that the basis for the Second amendment--and they believe in the Second Amendment--the basis for the Second Amendment is not really about self defense, and it's not about hunting. It's about

He uses incorrect statistics to boot. Not to mention the irony since the UK is the most violent country in Europe. I want him to get the f&ck out of my country too! Then again, what can you expect from a man who was fired as a newspaper editor in Britain for faking photographs of British soldiers abusing prisoners. The man is truly a scumbag.

Dang, that was aggravating to watch. For the most part, Ben acquitted himself well. I didn’t like the capitulation on the assault weapon definition, the “should have locked them up” argument, the mental illness argument, etc., but mostly he did very well.

It’s sounds like Mrs. Morgan’s little Piers is still holding a grudge over what happened during the American Revolution. It was those wascally Americans with their guns that caused his ancestors a lot of heartburn. LOL!

I hate to say it, but the single largest factor in these mass shootings doesn’t involve the second amendment, but the first. For without the widespread publicity that the new media affords, none of these nutcases would bother. I wonder if Piers (how I wish he would take a long walk off a short one!) would favor abridging press freedom for the sake of the children?

piers comes from a country with no constitution. laws change to whatever the majority party says so there’s no guarantee of any fundamental rights, and its very easy to strip rights from uk citizens than over here.

socialist democracy with no constitution inherently inferior to constitutional republic (if you can keep it).

Morgan needs several things, including a new first name. When I think of piers, I think of wet things in the water that stink of dead fish.

More seriously. Ben Shapiro of Breitbart did a good job of counterattacking Morgan’s “cookie-cutter questions” but he missed a chance to really stick it to him and show the viewing audience how stupid Morgan really is.

Let’s go back to 1775 and 1776. What were the British troops going after when they clashed with colonialists (Americans-in-the-making)?

Easy: The colonial gun/weapons/supplies stores at Bunker Hill, Boston, and at other sites scattered around the state. Lexington and Concord battles were fought to keep the British from marching on these stores.

Lesson learned by American students but not by Piers Morgan:

After all the fighting during the Revolutionary War, when the smoke had finally settled, the British occupation army, the finest in Europe, had lost to a basically ragtag army of Minutemen, men and women who had saved their own arms from confiscation by tyrannts, and were able to successfully use them to push the tyrannts back and thus gain freedom for themselves and future generations.

Hey Morgan, you fop. You lost.

And as if to rub salt into the wound, it was a makeshift, ragtag American Army at the Battle of New Orleans that destroyed a British army that outnumbered them about 10 to 1.

Pirates, free Frenchmen, gamblers, some professional US soldiers and sailors, Indians, Tennesee sharpshooters, and others showed that their collective privately owned arms could meet and beat the best that the British had.

Hey Morgan, you twit. You lost again.

Now go back home to muzzielnd and see how long you will last in the streets of Englandistan without a gun.

Also learn the words to a good rock and roll song by Ral Donner, “You Don’t Know What You’ve Got Until You’ve Lost It.”

Ur intent is well founded but the opposing forces actually in place on the east bank in Chalmette were more like 7500/4500 British over American advantage
What really decided the battle of New Orleans was:
A horrible approach by the Brits

Not pursuing early advantage in late December

And underestimating American resolve and mettle...a mettle enforced by cavalry with sabers drawn in the rear behind the subsequent ramparts

Jackson was indefatigable and the Brits sloppy and dreaming of pillage and booty

That battle and it's site is a hobby of mine...i love reading about it

That one and Franklin were i live are my two centers of study on battles domestically

Now you can tell mr know it all to sod off..lol

I was disappointed. Ben Shapiro made some serious mistakes.
1. He conceded that automatic guns should be banned. One you ban very fast firing guns, fast firing guns are next. If you are going to overthrow the government, you need similar weapons.
2. He did not point out our past tyrannical actions. I would have pointed out the the internment of certain populations by our fascist President FDR. (For the record, I consider it justified.) Morgan would have had a stroke.
3. I would have pointed our that a pistor and shotgun were used at Aurora along with a semi-automatic gun.
4. I would have mocked assault guns as an artificial politicized classification with no meaning.
5. I would have given a damn what Reagan thout in 1994. In 1994, Reagan was suffering from Alzheimers. But even if Reagan wanted to ban them in 1984, Reagan doesn't define conservatism, the Constitution does. I would have asked Morgan if tax cuts are a leftist idea now that Obama supported them.

Conceded nothing.

The 2nd amendment is about self defense, fundamentally. The right to protect yourself from tyrannous government derives from self defense.

I'll take it one step further and say that the 2nd amendment supports what Jefferson wrote in the Declaration. It supports the inalienable right to Life (self-defense), and the inalienable right to Liberty (protection from tyranny). Without those two, there can be no inalienable right to pursue Happiness.

Remember that the Preamble to the Constitution says that We the People established the Constitution to secure the "Blessings of Liberty" for ourselves and our Posterity. The capitalized Liberty refers to the inalienable right to Liberty from the Declaration, and the capitalized Blessings refers to the rights as being endowed by the Creator, which is what makes them inalienable.

To further elaborate on my previous point, when Obama says that people bitterly cling to their guns or religion, he's disparaging those who believe that the right to keep and bear arms is necessary to protect their inalienable rights from being taken away by people like Obama.

I hate to water down the drama, but without the French navy we never would’ve won. Also, many on our side were trained by the British army, and professionals from various European countries —France (Lafayette), Poland (Pulaski), Prussia (von Steuben)—helped. So it wasn’t exactly a ragtag bunch of bumpkins beating bloated imperial regulars.

Not to say that motley American crews didn’t do anything decisive on their own. Washington’s chief virtue was that he avoided disaster, but we did score manor victories in set-piece battles like the Cowpens and Saratoga, which is something you can’t say for overhyped ragtag armies like the commies in Vietnam.

Obama’s pointman is continuting to distract from the BIG issue facing the US.

The Left continues to flog tangential issues as they did in the election campaign, i.e., birth control and the evil rich.

The one thing they refuse to discuss is the disaster that is the moribund American economy, the dying dollar, and the tough measures that need to be taken now to cut spending on entitlements, Obamacare’s disasterous expenses, and all things monetary.

The right needs to continue to bring this up in the face of the distrations foisted on the public and abetted by the truly disgusting Government Media.

Whenever I run into an A$$hole Brit like Morgan, I stop their anti American screaming with two statements.

#1. My ancestors who fought and killed your Ancestors in our two revolutionary wars with your scum, didn’t kill enough of you bastards.

#2. Last but not least, I wish that my Dad, uncles and cousins had not rescued your miserable ancestors in WWI and WWII. They should have let Hitler have his way with you and your ancestors. I know you agree, because you hate us for saving your butts.

The above is saved for Brits like Morgan. Most Brits I have met here and in their country particuliarly in the Devon/Cornwall areas, are good people. I can’t say the same about the A$$holes like Morgan in the London area.
