The earliest East Asians (other than the American Indians) were mostly single men ~ and there were no brides ~ American practice was to bring them in as workers ~ mostly in the West ~ and not to allow them to start families.

It's only in the post WWII period that East Asians have achieved any sort of social acceptance in the US.

San Fran’s Chinatown is much older than WWII, and Chinese women were brought here as well as men during the Old West. Maybe not commonplace on the frontier, but they’re not new to California’s coastal cities.
