'Journal News' advertisers face boycott over gun map (Gannett)

The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association is calling for a nationwide boycott of the advertisers of the suburban New York newspaper that published online maps revealing names and addresses of people with pistol permits.

**SNIP**

The group is encouraging “concerned citizens” to contact national and local advertisers who use the Journal News — including Best Buy, CVS, IKEA and Target, among others — and tell them to stop running ads until the list of lower Hudson Valley pistol license holders is off the Web.

Problem is, isn’t the cat already out of the bag? Damage is already done.

>> Damage is already done.

Not for the gun owners. Consider it a minefield map.

I’ve always argued that all gun supporters should send polite, but firm personal letters to her house, discussing why you support the 2nd amendment.

Chess is not played one move at a time. Of course it is not too late

It will work.

Boycotts work because many businesses cave before any real damage sets in. Probably the dumbest comment I ever heard was “Boycotts do not work”. They work. And this one will

A nice interactive map of all the Employees of these advertisers would finish the job.

It may be too late to discourage the paper's bad behavior, but it's not too late to make the guilty parties regret that course of action.

It would be more effective to send them a notice of intent to sue if you as one of the listed registered gun owners is affected by assault or break in. Let them know that you will mount a class action law suit against all advertisers as responsible by enabling this maverick newspaper to put your life and property in danger along with many others. Tell them you will find the most savage contingency lawyer to work on this. Boycotts are dumb. You probably need their products more than they need you. The lawyers can do far more damage and they know it.

What needs to be made clear to the actors in this little drama is that this is terrorism - soft terrorism, to be sure, but terrorism still - and that should it devolve to violence the ones who encouraged it will be held accountable. Take names - the editors, the reporters, the “expert” analysts. And make it clear that if gun owners are not safe because of their activity, neither are they. We didn’t start this.

It will definitely work against Best Buy, they’re going down for the third time and likely to go out of business anyway. Target is a good target also and deserves to be brought down for the list of lib crap they’ve done over the years.

We’re trying to send a message. Newspapers have the freedom to print - we have the freedom to object to their attacks. It’s that simple.

If anyone can find a list of the Journals national advertisers, I’d be happy to stop buying from them...

I think the boycott is a good idea. If somebody published an on-line petition to send to these advertisers I’d certainly sign it. But, I have to say, I stopped using all of those advertisers for one reason or another. I also stopped using Starbucks, JC Pennies and a few others over their “socially responsible” political stands long ago. I think companies that join the liberal mindset should pay a price for it.

If it’s part of the public record, they’re allowed to print it... They have that right.

We have rights too. We can stop buying everything liberal elites puts out: newspapers, magazines, movies, TV shows etc. Also, boycotting any national group that advertises in this rag - the Journal - will send a message.

They have rights and freedoms. We have rights and freedoms. Let’s exercise ours.
