IRS Proposes Employer Mandate Rules for Health Coverage
AccountingToday ^ | December 30, 201 | Michael Cohn

The Internal Revenue Service has issued proposed regulations on the shared responsibility for large employers to provide health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

The IRS noted that employers may rely on the proposed regulations for guidance until final regulations are issued. In addition, the IRS posted a questions and answers document on its Web site Friday to explain the Employer Shared Responsibility provisions under the Affordable Care Act and the new proposed regulations.

Under the provisions, if employers do not offer affordable health coverage that provides a minimum level of health insurance coverage to their full-time employees, they may be subject to an Employer Shared Responsibility payment if at least one of their full-time employees receives a premium tax credit for purchasing individual coverage on one of the new Affordable Insurance Exchanges.

I’m sure they will take full credit for any improvement in employment numbers.

The idea that the IRS is involved in healthcare should strike fear in the heart of any thinking person.

My wife, the uber-tax CPA, says it is absurd that they’re just coming out with rules for a law that has been in effect this long.

Uncertainty is horrible for business. Democrats in general, and Obama in particular, simply don’t get this. Or are actively trying to screw up business, one of the two.

"Regardless, culling the ones who were taught HOW America is SUPPOSED TO BE (the elderly) will commence shortly. "

One thing I'm sure about...When "they" come to cull me, I will cull many, many of "them".

Wait til we get single payer health care.

This is by design - to have the government be the insurer of first resort.

The private sector can’t afford the burden of health care costs. Until single payer is inaugurated, the economy will begin shedding jobs left and right.

Welcome to the wonderful world of ObamaCare - which our nation’s Obama voters voted to keep in November.

29ers won't help most businesses. Two 29'ers count as one full time equivalent. Look for the words FTE in the regs. Also, the key is coverage unaffordable to at least one employee. Ah, but what is unaffordable? Yes, employers are screwed until they get out of the healthcare business altogether, which is exactly what Obama is aiming for. Single-payer was always the goal.

Why not just make it 20 and double staff.
Or 10 and quadruple staff.

I don’t think so. No proof, but I think that we’re going to see lots of 29ers AND a reduction in over-all employment. Again - no proof, just a feeling that because I expect the economy to tank, unemployment will go up again. (Think dead-cat bounce).

"I expect the economy to tank, unemployment will go up again."

That's my economic crystal-gazing guess, too. There are still a lot of jobs that can be shifted over to China and India. Where there is no Obamacare mandate. An economic black hole lies waiting on the other side of the fiscal cliff.

Why have we been seeing the stories from businesses going to 29ers? Are they making a mistake?

Maybe if we overwhelm our representatives with calls and visits all day every day they may get the notion to repeal this monstrosity.

Make them answer ridiculous health care questions and tax questions and make them squirm

I have my own policy through BCBS because the plan at my work is worthless. I recently received another notice of increase of monthly payments.

I know some places that are doing just that. Typically they are setting up what is essentially job sharing. One employee works Mon, Wed, Fri - the other Tue, Thur. So if you need to work 40 hours to live you have to have two jobs. Typically this is clerks, wait staff, service persons....people who can ill afford to have their hours cut.

I guess if an employer you can say you are helping the economy by offering more employement opportunities.
