Oh Right, she was already elected in November. Cannot send another woman / minority from Hawaii. Schatz does not look like a real Hawaiian. /s

I don’t think this pick is going to sit well with Inouye’s many supporters (he controlled a large part of Hawaii’s Democrat party machine). There may be a primary challenge, or even a possible opening for a Republican challenger in 2014.

Schatz went to Punahou School too. A Choomer, perhaps?

Is it worth investigating if Abercrombie might need to share a cell with Blagojevich? How much did the bidding go up to?

Thanks hole_n_one.
On the day he died, the late senator wrote a letter to Abercrombie asking that he pick Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, D-Hawaii, to replace him... "The charge of the central committee was to take all points of view into account, from Sen. Inouye and from the rank and file -- the Democratic grass roots," Abercrombie said during a news conference on Wednesday evening.
Central Committee = Politburo.

The reason Hanabusa was not appointed is that Reid wanted the appointment made by the end of the year.
That would have meant that Hanabusa would have preceded incoming Sen. Mazie Hirono.
Hirono wanted to be the first Asian-woman-buddhist appointed to the Senate; Hanabusa would have stolen her fire.
Yes, we were about to have 2 Asian-Woman-Buddhist senators from HI.
To: what's up
Hirono considers herself a non-practicing Buddhist.

Eligibility Brian Schatz ping...

“Schatz (the current Lt. Governor) graduated from Punahou High School, Obama’s alma-mater, in 1990. Ironically, he also spent time in Kenya in 1992, the same year Obama first traveled there, as a part of the School of International Training, a cross-cultural, world-wide education outreach program supported predominantly by liberal-based and foreign scholarship funding sources, where he was educated in civil service, before graduating from Pomona College in 1994.”

Poor Hawaii, you could have been so great. Pity.

When I have time I will double check, but I recall Brian was instrumental in clearing obamama"s qualifications(gatekeeper).

Sounds like he's going from one place-holding, time-serving position to another. He doesn't seem like he could win on his own.
Does the appoined Schatz get senority over the elected Hirono? Could be awkward.
