Could Pittsburgh Be The Next Paris? (gag)

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Paris — the city of lights and love, and a destination for millions of tourists — could that be the future Pittsburgh with some sensible, healthy-focused city planning?

“Pittsburgh has wonderful parks, and you also have that wonderful next to the river walking pathway,” says Dr. Richard Jackson, a physician and urban designer.

Jackson, who teaches at UCLA, says Paris is a good example of a healthy city that Pittsburgh could become.

I got a huge laugh in a meeting when i said Pittsburgh was “the Paris of Appalachia”.

I follow this cart-leading-the-horse phenomenon from an economic perspective. The Instapundit comes at it from the political angle and has come up with what he calls "Reynolds's Law." There's a very good explanation of it here that you may find interesting.

It reminds me of Ayn Rand's explaining that people want to win the lottery to enjoy the money, of course. But that what they really desire is to be able to pretend and to give the impression that they'd earned it. That's where self-esteem comes from.
