Alas Babylon! is one of my favs. The paperbacks kept falling apart because I had read them so often. I finally sprung for a hardback :)

IMHO, the US in 1959 was much better off than today. None of this progressive crap. People were generally more decent and moral.

If I could go back in time, the period 1957-1964 would be my choice. I would gladly give up all the technology and perks I enjoy today to live in that much simpler, more honest time.

How can they even talk in terms of “cutting the budget” when there hasn’t been one passed since Obama took office? Most of what they are talking about are cuts in spending increases, nothing as deaconian as a roll back of total spending to the levels of the Clinton days.

YES. But too many folk get confused between the budget and the appropriations bills. Sure there has been no budget approved and hence no guidance on what policies are to be funded and at what level, BUT THE GOP IN THE HOUSE CONTINUES TO PASS APPROPRIATIONS BILLS (CRs as of late) AND SENDS THEM TO HARRY TO RUBBER STAMP AND THEN ON THE BIG GUY IN THE WHITE HUT.

Want to get Harry and the Big Guys attention - refuse to appropriate these trillions of dollars for crap like Obamacare. The House owns the appropriations process and they cave every time, thinking of Newt and Bubba.

And yes there never have been any cuts - only "cuts" in the rate of increase. BUT NO, the state run media will never ever level with the American sheeple, so they all take another kool aid drink when listening to Zero pontificate on his media outlets like this from NBC

Not from their point of view. They tried. They passed laws. They gave speeches. They just ignore the unintended consequences.

Dear Lord those Castro brothers.

Is the Democrat party nuts?

Those two are so transparent. They can’t speak Spanish. One is “married” and by the way they showed so ostentatiously spans of his “wife” and child it was obvious to me that a political meme was being created.

Now they get those two, lisping nothing-burgers both, to come out and tell us we must get gun control.

Bah humbug!

I live in Rehoboth Beach Delaware. I know a Gay when I see one.

And I really hate being treated like I don’t see it.

Yeah, if Pat Frank was still alive he could re-write the book but it would be much more dark and possibly morbid.

Imagine the scene if it had happened today. Roving gangs of inner city Utes invading the countryside. Illegal aliens from the produce fields of Florida. Displaced tourists from Disneyworld.

Pat would need to move Fort Repose to Alabama!

Watching FNS as well. Kristol and Ingram still spouting their nonsense about tax increases. No mention of the impact on small business or the fact that the revenue raised from taxing the "rich" really doesn't raise much revenue. During the campaign Romney said that raising the tax rates on the 2% would cost 700,000 jobs. Is that true or not?

I find it surprising (not) that these so-called pundits don't understand that Obama is using the tax the rich issue to divide and destroy the GOP. He is not interested in reducing the debt and deficits. Obama wants to increase spending. Are the Reps supposed to roll over and accept that as well since the Dems won the election?

In fact, we have the status quo with the Reps in control of the House. Obama only received 51% of the vote in 2012 down in both percentage and votes he received in the 2008. The Reps should use the leverage it has or lose it in 2014.

Let's go over the cliff. We need a national discussion on the dire state of our fiscal problems. The vast majority of the public has been insulated from its effects. If the public wants the benefits of the welfare state, then they should be willing to pay for it. The increase in taxes on everyone come January 1 will help focus everyone's attention on our spending problem along with our revenue problem. They will have some real skin in the game. I see it as an opportunity for Reps not a calamity. It should be welcomed if our side was smart enough to use it.

We have a $3.7 trillion annual budget and the politicians cannot figure out how to reduce it by $100 billion a year under sequestration. Neither party really wants to reduce spending. We pay $220 billion a year now on just debt servicing costs.

LaPierre said to hire an armed guard at every school. Of course, that’s not likely, if not impossible.

Well, if there was such a thing as reality, you could fire an overpaid/ineffective teacher, and fund two armed guards.

What’s the politician going to say?

“It’s just too expensive to hire guards for every school in America,” he might respond.

No. They will create a new governmental department patterned after -------------------- the successful TSA.

Hillary will be the next President of the United States absent any physical problem. It is as much a lock as anything is in politics. The Dems are now the permanent majority party for nationwide elections.

I got a little bit of a broken heart that granddaughter must live with this but so it is.

Shooters like the one in Conn and in Colorado and the one who shot Giffords, et. al. (including a 9-year old) are direct products of two powerhouse institutions dominated by the longterm Soviet-influenced American Left:

The union-run public education system; and the apparatchik lamestream entertainment media and its kook cousins in the computer games racket.

As to the latter, I’m always tickled when Hollywood types say that their products have no impact on viewers (and USERS in the case of games).

This same platform for liberal-speak (claiming their carefully crafted images and narratives have no influence over youth behavior) not that long ago persuaded their own moguls to remove cigarette advertising from TV because it was too seductive and led children to try smoking.

The hypocrisy is rank and evokes the olfactory sensation of a walk through a landfill.

Not sure I agree with you about Hillary but could be. I do agree with you about the Dems being our guys for a while.

One of the bigger reasons why this is so is due to a total lack of an opposition party.

Wow -- good job Wayne LaPierre on MTP It took the whole show but when he went down the list of elites-only who are able to get weapons permits in New York the jack ass who was braying at him had nothing to say.

That was really good stuff on Wayne's part. He handled DNC Dave well. He's used to the drive-by methods of intimidation by now.

To: Alas Babylon!

I watched 5 minutes of MTP with Gregory trying to hassle Wayne Lapiere(sp) of NRA, Gregory was pretty pathetic, Wayne did well under circumstances

Then I switched to FNS for about 5 minutes probably less, just caught the last portion of the Rick Warren Show.

I am a Christian, I LOVE Jesus, but am afraid I do NOT have very warm feelings towards Rick Warren, I really do not, I do not see him as even being on my side.. I really have no respect for him. Sorry

Franklin Graham is a Christian leader that I have tons of respect for, not sure why they bother with warren, I take that back, for sure I know why they have him.

Rick Warren was instrumental in getting Obama elected the first time, that values charade he held with Obama and McCain, what a joke!

Warren is teamed up with that liberal Jim Wallace guy, really have no use for any of those liberal folks.

Warren says he is “pro life but” should have that on his tomb stone I have no use for the guy, not even sure he is a Christian.

Cant even see a difference between the Presidency of GW Bush and Obama...Warren is a loser

60 million + trumps everything fellow. Really the NEW AGE guy Joel Osteen is much like Rick Warren, wont take a stand on anything, wont say that homosexuality is a sin, when pressed he finally says well it`s not God`s best

And Finally Chris Wallace asks Warren about Christmas, says Newton (where the 26 were killed) colors it for us?

Yes it was a terrible heartbreaking senseless tragedy, but life goes on. Chris thinks every single person watched sickening wall to wall media coverage of it all, I for one watch less than 5 minutes in total!

To put into perspective, far more that 26 children are aborted every morning in almost every stated, Same will happen tomorrow morning.

More than 26 Children die in Childrens hospitals every morning, probably in every state, there was something really deplorable about the media coverage.

No Chris,life goes on

Maybe not, look who the hard left backed for eight years. A bi-sexual, bi-racial, illegal, communist.

Hillary has a lot going for her. She's bi-sexual,female, communist, has major league crime boss experience just like Jarrett and she hates America!!She could easily be the left's candidate.

Dick Gregory totally losing the argument with LaPierre.

I dislike that guy anyway but this morning he sounds like a dumbbell as he is a dummbbell, bought and paid for.

He holds up something supposedly a gun magazine. Says to the effect “wouldn’t putting fewer bullets in this help the problem”?

Dolt, let us all pray that these media hacks someday go away.

But LaPierre is holding his own and by the American public, I think he will win the national argument.

You can believe the White House called up Gregory and begged him to pounce on that notion of armed guards and provided him with the talking points, as it always goes.

I still think the argument for armed guards at school is going to be damn hard for the politicians to argue against.

Isn’t the safety of our children more important than, say, Planned Parenthood?

LaPierre did mention us sending money overseas and again, what a great sound byte. Americans will consider that Schumer will vote to send money to Egypt by is against protecting our own children here in America?

It’s how the pubs should do. And Gregory, heh,....

.....you sound like the talking head idiot you are.

Hillary will get the Dem nomination and will be elected in 2016.

The biggest reason is the rapidly changing demographics in this country fueled by immigration, legal and illegal, and high minority birthrates. Immigrants and minorities vote Democrat. By 2019 half of the children 18 and under will be minorities as defined by the USG and by 2042 half of the country will be minorities.

Right now government at all levels controls 42% of the GDP. Almost one in every two Americans receives a government check.
