While white-steepled churches and President Barack Obama prepared to comfort a grieving town Sunday, federal agents planned to fan out to dozens of gun stores and shooting ranges across Connecticut, chasing leads they hoped would cast light on the life of school shooter Adam Lanza.
Among the questions to be answered: Why did his mother, a well-to-do suburban divorcée, keep a cache of high-power weapons in the house? What experience did Lanza have with those guns? And, above all, what set him on a path to shoot and kill 20 children, along with the adults who tried to stop him?

Whenever a horrible tragedy like this happens, I wish a simple rule would be followed during the discussion: Any suggestions for prevention of future such incidents should be disallowed unless they would have actually have prevented the incident in question.
They pretty much say right out loud in the news reports that it was the divorce that precipitated this catastrophe, but they don’t even hear themselves saying it.
>”cache of high-power weapons”<
Pray tell, exactly what is a “cache”, and what is considered a “high powered weapon”, a Phaser, Disrupter, Death Star?
If that was a cache, my Family must own a National Guard Armory.
If one or both had been armed perhaps both would be alive and fewer children would be dead.
But it is not politically correct to say such obvious and logical things.
Certainly the AP would never be so crass as to mention such hurtful facts while parents are grieving. /S
I just read 2 different stories about the killer one said he graduated from the High school and another said his mother had pulled him out in 10th grade. How come there are so many confilcting stories about this guy?
“He graduated high school in 2010 and refused to pose for the traditional high school yearbook picture a rite of passage in America. Instead, a note on the page under his name states: Camera shy.”
“She mentioned she wound up home-schooling him because she battled with the school district,” said Marsha.
She did not know when Adam had left school. According to former classmates, Adam had attended the local high school at least through part of 10th grade.
Cache = a lever action .22 and a single shot .410
he was 20 years old. That's a stressful time for most young men. Hormones are raging and they are leaving the nest. some are better prepared to leave the nest than others. Those who leave the nest unprepared for the cold cruel world are prone to falling into self destructive patterns. when they have an underlying mental disorder, those self destructive patterns can become even more destructive. throw in some holiday stress and a failed intimate relationship and bam, you have a recipe for delta male homicidal rage.
I don't think this will be the last example of delta male rage we see. Not by a long shot.
Why do I feal like I’m living in a brakken novel?
The more confusing information is now, the easier it will to keep a plausable line going when people start to bear down on ...
Wellll ... let's liken the basic event to Fast and Furious.
Plenty of evidence and support for for obama's gun running to Mexico, yet he and Holder are still out of prison and plausably denying and totally ignoring any complicity in Brian Terry's murder.
Too much of This elementary school slaughter just doesn't pass the smell test ... to me.
did the perp have a job?
Do you have to be 21 to purchase a firearm in Connecticut?
If so, is that why this 20-year-old had his 24-year-old brother’s ID on his body?
And did the brother, Ryan, know that Adam was using his ID to purchase guns?
What else did Ryan know?
When I was 8 years old I had a single shot .410 and a Remington 22 with the cylinder magazine (nylon stock as I recall). Still wish I had that one.
Todays Libtards would have thought I was another Jesse James in the making.
Anything more deadly than an Airsoft gun is “high powered” to a journalist. And ANY weapon can be use in an assault, therefore ALL weapons are assault weapons, if the agenda requires it.
She sounds like she might be a trifle weird too. Still why hassle a bunch of gun shops that were doing nothing they could have known to be wrong?
Did the two look enough alike that the “borrowed” license would be believed?
It might have been other things than guns, of course, that he wanted Crazy Little Brother to get. Liquor maybe, or cigarettes, or porn.
Which s why the Second Amendment uses the term “ARMS” and doesn’t use the term “Muskets”.
My Lib B-I-L brings up the technology of the day (Muskets)when discussing the Second Amendment. I asked him where the word “internet” is listed in the First Amendment.
End of discussion, which was fine by me.
Why are federal agents doing ANYTHING on this case?
Pray tell, exactly what is a cache, and what is considered a high powered weapon, a Phaser, Disrupter, Death Star?
If that was a cache, my Family must own a National Guard Armory.
I don't know, but I think there are generally at least a dozen golf clubs in a set, and they're not called a "cache". The question of the power of the 5.56 NATO cartridge has been debated since it's introduction. I don't think you'd want to try hunting big game with it. As is typical, the press doesn't know what it's writing about and has no interest in learning.
:Among the questions to be answered: Why did his mother, a well-to-do suburban divorcée, keep a cache of high-power weapons in the house? :
Because it was her right.
“And, above all, what set him on a path to shoot and kill 20 children, along with the adults who tried to stop him?”
Because he was a sick, evil bastard created by a society that abandoned all social norms and standards of Judaeo-Christian morality and ethics.
How about the psyco son purchasing the arms under his mother’s name for his use?
“They pretty much say right out loud in the news reports that it was the divorce that precipitated this catastrophe”
We should ban divorce “it’s for the children”.
(/sarcasm off)
You know, I am wondering if Adam Lanza was seeing the same school psychologist that was there, and died at Sandy Hook elementary.
Now that you mention that Adam’s mother had battled with the school district it could lead me to believe that that battle may have had to do with his “mental health” in some way and maybe Adam blamed his Mom and the district for messing with his head.
Question is. Was someone messing with his head?
Has it been reported if the shooter was taking ADD or ADHD drugs throughout his childhood?
“And, above all, what set him on a path to shoot and kill 20 children, along with the adults who tried to stop him? “
No adult who lived in America 50 or more years ago would have any problem understanding the inescapable effects degraded deviant culture will eventually have.
I haven’t heard that he was, but he may have. Some of those drugs they give them make for very dark moods.
I have seen it first hand. And if they get off the drugs, they become really wild.
Another thing. Many times the kid may have Aspbergers and they are treated with ADHD drugs. They are also pale and seem to have dark circles under the eyes.
In the photos he looked very thin. While on the meds they don’t eat properly. If taken off the meds, they gain weight and look healthier.
Was someone messing with his head?
Have you seen his pictures? I tell you he looks like a nut to me.
“cache of high-power weapons in the house?”
3 is a “cache”?
Look, when the dad leaves, the mom needs protection. If she turns to a gun, who can blame her sheesh
you are correct the selfish dad left to pursue tail and the kids suffer the most as is always the case
One thing that bothers me. I heard on FOX today that each of those kids had been shot at least eleven times.
They said there were two handguns found and a rifle in the car.
How did two guns do all that is such a short time frame because at the first shots, there were people in the school calling the cops?
Yes. An "arsenal" is 4.
‘cause you are! He had this already figured out.
Looks like all his books are going to play out in a way.
Why did his mother, a well-to-do suburban divorcée, keep a cache of high-power weapons in the house?
Why not?
“They pretty much say right out loud in the news reports that it was the divorce that precipitated this catastrophe, but they dont even hear themselves saying it.”
I tend to think it was the dad...so busy climbing the corporate ladder that he forgot he had a kid - and a troubled kid.
I’m sure he’s proud of his career achievements now.
Two good points. Adam sounds like a failed Asperger's case. Supposedly high IQ, but totally disconnected personality. In Massachusetts a few years back, there was a fatal high school stabbing by a moderate functioning Asperger's kid. He was known to be problematic, but not crazy-violent. He went off without warning, as seems to have happened here.
It's easier and better publicity to focus publicly on the gun shops than on the psychiatric profile of Mom and son. That would probably be more fruitful. I wonder if Adam was taking any meds, too. As to Adam's problems, a genetic component would not be surprising.
“Cache” is used to manipulate.
It is to insinuate that some illegal thing is being hidden.
After all the “high powered weapons” where hidden in that secret hiding place hollowed out in the back of the closet under the stairs, weren’t they?
“Why did his mother, a well-to-do suburban divorcée, keep a cache of high-power weapons in the house?”
Why? Because she could. Because it was her God-given right, as journalized in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.
And, all the gun-grabbers, all the libtard pundits, all the progressives, communists and 0bamunists need to come to that realization.
The solution to Sandy Hook is better preparedness in a world bordering on crazy. The answer is to protect the children, and teach them the same sense of freedom, responsibility, and self-reliance that made possible this grand experiment.
“Why did his mother, a well-to-do suburban divorcée, keep a cache of high-power weapons in the house? “
Here we go with leftist hyperbole about something they know little about: I wouldn’t call a 5.56 rifle high-powered. Given the range of rifles either comes in .22 rimfire or centerfire. But more to the point: as defined by what ammo and long guns that Walmart sells, centerfire starts at .223 (or 5.56).
So, now we have one more entry in the leftist dictionary of gun politics. In addition to “assault rifle”, which is defined as any rifle that looks like an evil military rifle, we now have “high power”.
A “high-power” rifle means any caliber above 22 rimfire, irrespective of how people who are familiar with firearms would define the term.
The warning here is that he who gets to define the terms gets to control the outcome of the public discussion. So, be careful what terms you accept and how you use them, because in doing so the left gets to shift the debate towards the ends it seeks.
We know a family whose teenage son ambushed and killed both his parents with a rifle as they returned home from work one day.
This was a family active in the church, community, sports, Boy Scouts - model citizens, really. There were no warning signs that the son was troubled other than that he struggled a bit in school - maintained a C average in a very well respected school district.
The son was a minor at the time and was judged, guilty but mentally incompetent. He has been in a psychiatric facility for the past 15 years and to this day, shows no signs of remorse for what he did.
Sometimes there are no reasons and nothing to blame except the fact that there are evil and mentally/emotionally imbalanced people that just snap at some unforeseen or unanticipated point in their lives.
This is a scary thing, but it’s the fallen world we live in.
“he who gets to define the terms gets to control the outcome of the public discussion. So, be careful what terms you accept and how you use them, because in doing so the left gets to shift the debate towards the ends it seeks.”
Couldn’t agree more. And make no mistake the word shifts are intentional.
I have heard that he didn’t get to purchase the gun he wanted. Gun store turned him down for being underage. That part, if true, shows that gun laws and gun stores are doing their jobs.
However, his mother was perfectly entitled to have as many guns as she felt comfortable with. The kid kills her to get her guns——and he has various possible mental problems.
When the coming chaos starts, what weapons are YOU planning to use to protect yourself and your family?
A cast iron frying pan can cause alot of damage, but must be used up close.
IF you are not prepared, you might wish to rethink all your options.
