Nadler urges Obama to call the NRA enablers of mass murder
capitalnewyork.com ^ | December 14, 2012 | Dana Rubinstein

Today, following the shooting massacre of 20 children in a Connecticut school, President Obama said that "meaningful action" needed to be taken to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.

But what "meaningful action" can Obama actually take, given Republican control of the House and Congress' deeply felt fear of the politically mighty National Rifle Association? And politics aside, what new laws would actually solve or make a dent in the country's crazed-gunman problem?

Rep. Jerry Nadler said thinks that the president has only one option.

"There’s only one meaningful action he can take, which is to take on the N.R.A., label them as the enablers of mass murderers* they are, really push for strong gun-control legislation and call out those congressional leaders who don’t support it," Nadler told me this afternoon.

"It is time to call out the N.R.A. as enablers of mass murder and start embarrassing people and saying, 'Who do you stand with? The parents and children of this country or the potential mass murderers?'"

Nadler said there's nothing else Obama can do, realistically.

"There is no other meaningful action," Nadler said. "He has to know that. ... I can’t imagine what else he could have meant."

Nadler attributes the N.R.A.'s power to its ability to terrify politicians.

"If you cross the N.R.A. in certain districts, you know that X percent of people are going to come out and vote against you just because of that," said Nadler. "The N.R.A. will come out and run dishonest ads saying you're in favor of taking guns away from hunters."

By Nadler's logic, the only way to counteract the N.R.A. electoral influence is to wield the power of really bad P.R., and he thinks the president is well-equipped to do that, even if he's been unwilling in the past.

Nadler is a modern day Kapo, who would oversee defenseless Jews being marched in an orderly way to the gas chambers.

Any Jew who is pro-gun control is a genocide enabler.

In the USA, after today, the idea that universal access to firearms is acceptable is dead.

Folks who support the 2nd Amendment need to come up with solid proposals to keep guns out of the hands of the crazies. If we don't do that, the rest of the country is going to figure out ways to keep guns out of every ones hands...

Yep. You get it. As do I. Too many others here seem to want to bury their heads in the sand while parading the same old tired bumper-sticker platitudes. Here's a newsflash to these folks: What happened today wasn't just another run-of-the-mill mass shooting that America will forget about in a week. Oh, no. This one is going to stick around for a while.

Why doesn’t he NRA have these people bought off? We know they’re all whores. Give fatty Nadler enough money and he’ll become the strongest defender of gun ownership.

What the hell do find is "run of the mill" about the massacre of 20 children in an elementary school?

Today we are fortunate to get the opinions of two heavyweights, Michael Moore and Jerry Nadler.

Exactly my point. Nothing. And people here would be wise to understand that this one is different and won't so quickly disappear from the national consciousness.

except the crazies..

There is probably 100 laws already on the books that this guy broke.

One more would not have made him stop and think “wow.. 101 laws.. well there goes that idea. if was only 100.. well then I’d be set!”

Banning guns won’t work. I know we agree on that.

There is no solid way to keep guns out of the hands of crazy people. None.

So how do we fix this? The fact is we can’t.

But we can prevent it from happening by allowing citizens to be armed where ever they are.

This includes teachers.

I heard and read that after Columbine, 9/11, Aurora and others. The anti-gunners will attempt to use this massacre by a psycho as a political football and it will get thrown back in their faces......again.

I think your on to something.

This guys voter registration is likely the first thing they checked.

Have not heard he was a rabid right wing nut job yet.

I wonder if he is one of theirs like so many in the past have been.

Obama tried to sell guns to the Mexicans to push for gun control.

While I am not saying Obama is behind this, I can’t say he’s complaining it happened and won’t let this crisis go to waste.

THIS JUST IN FROM FOREIGN PRESS: While the US media cry about gun control, the foreign media point out that an innocent man Ryan Lanza was accused by the US media (and its followers, many of them here) of being a mass murderer!

ditto what you said, cableguymn. Freedom has risks. That’s the way it is. You choose to be free because even though it causes grief sometimes, it’s better than the alternative.

People forget what life was like in countries that fell to communist tyranny. Millions died defenseless. You never were secure in your own home, you could be “disappeared” on a whim. You could be sent to the gulag for “reeducation,” or the psych ward for “treatment” of your dislike of tyranny. This is a place we cannot go.

So we begin with a dark premise, that even free people can be sometimes be bad people, and so we equip everyone with the means of self defense, including the schools. Like Adam Smith accepting the reality of economic self-interest, we liberate ourselves by accepting the reality that we must occasionally confront evil with lethal force, even as private citizens.

But the sympathetic images this tragedy will create, will tempt us to surrender our premise for a temporary political peace. But we cannot accept the premise of the left, that the state must own and control all the means of self defense. This is just the state asserting it’s ownership of you personally. This is slavery, and it is why every freeman must fight to the bitter end to hang on to his own power of protecting his own life.

So rather that accepting the left’s premise and scurrying to join them in further restricting access to means of self defense (you too could be considered a “crazy” just for not loving dear leader), this is precisely the time for us to push back and assert our own premise, that our own life has so much value that we have the right and deserve the the power to protect it, even if that involves the risk of occasional abuse, and even if it means requiring educators to be trained and skillful in the use of weapons to defend our children.

While that would be a bitter pill for the lefty educator class to swallow, now is the time to confront this. We have been too lax in the defense of our children, too willing to accept the left’s psychotic belief that man can evolve himself to a point where innocent human life will never be in danger, as long as we surrender all control of the means of self-protection to the government. That is truly insane. We don’t have to accept our own enslavement. We can make the argument for armed self-defense on first principles, and we can win, because we are right, and this is the time to make that stand.
