State police are responding to a report of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dickinson Drive, school officials said.
Police are reporting a number of injured parties. The nature of their injuries is not clear.
There are unconfirmed reports of two shooters — one dead, one still at large.

That’s what I think the coming debate will be about.

Most of the whackos who go shoot up schools are certifiable. They need to be in institutions instead of “given medications” and turned loose on society. The fact that the guns used by the murderers in these public massacres are illegal has gone right past the gun banners.

I would make one exception to gun laws: I would not trust anyone as dumb as YOU to have anything more powerful than a rubber band (and even then it would be the small kind, not the larger more dangerous kind).

Also, the guy in China who slashed 22 children to death didn’t use a gun, he used a knife.

I have a good friend who has a older brother that is mentally ill and he lives on the street. He’s not at all a violent character though he is self destructive and he makes a mild nuisance of himself. He won’t voluntarily adhere to any treatment and as he’s never posed a threat he has never been committed for any length of time. The mother is an enabler, to this day the brother (late 40’s) will show up for a meal or to get warm. The father became a hyper authoritarian and my friend grew up under that father. (My friend never had a good relationship with his father, in large part because of the problems with his brother.). The father recently died and the mother is aging. It’s all very sad. My friend is not known for his patients though he is a great guy. He has almost no patients in dealing with his brother -far be it from me to judge that.
We used to take our firearms to school so we could go hunting after classes let out...where were all the school shootings back then? Lockers with rifles never struck me as ‘odd’...

And everywhere they banned guns, violent crime exploded out of control.
If criminals know their targets are unarmed, they are emboldened.
If they have doubts about whether or not their target will defend themself, they are less likely to commit the crime.
If they know for a fact that defense is assured, they avoid that place as it is too hard for them to ‘crack’ as it is harder to get at victims.

What about banning dangerous weapons like knives, as in the UK?
There is no earthly reason for depriving any of us of the means for self defense. If Juno67 wishes to be defenseless in the face of threats, so be it, good luck to his/her family, and I wouldn’t want this clown to be at my back in a firefight.

For centuries children had easy access to loaded firearms which hung openly above the front door and there were NEVER situations like this.
The problem isn't the guns, it's the moral breakdown of society and the violations of our second amendment rights that result in a disarmed society which cannot protect itself.
If someone had been packing, they could have taken out this guy before the slaughter he committed. While it is true that someone still may have died, as the element of surprise was in his favor, anyone with their wits about them, well trained, and packing, could have taken him out.
