Coulter: Republicans Should Cave on Tax Hikes Because "We Lost the Election"
Townhall ^ | December 7, 2012 | Guy Benson

Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter

SH: So are you saying that, for PR purposes, that they should give in to Obama on the tax rate?

AC: Not exactly, I--Well, yeah, I guess I am.

SH: You're saying capitulate to Obama? We don't have a revenue problem, Ann.

AC: We lost the election, Sean.

Hannity seems genuinely flummoxed by Coulter's capitulatory attitude, but does she have a point? Recent polling has been gruesome for Republicans. Not only does an overall double-digit plurality favor raising taxes on "the rich," support for extending all current tax rates has plummeted by nearly 30 percentage points in two years...among self-identified Republicans. My fault for listening to libs’ conversations (we all have ‘em in the family, I guess): they gave her that nickname.

I have yet another thought on how we can fix this. Why don't we let the Democrats pass whatever they want? If they are the party of higher taxes, all the Republicans vote present and let the Democrats raise taxes as high as they want to raise them, let Democrats in the Senate raise taxes, let the president sign it and then make them own the tax increase. And when the economy stalls, when the economy sputters, when people lose their jobs, they know which party to blame, the party of high taxes. Let's don't be the party of just almost as high taxes.

This sounds clever; kind of like one team in a tug-of-war letting go of the rope to avoid a certain loss in order to make the other team look foolish.

The end result is the same, though. The other team wins.

I'm not sure that ensuring economic collapse (hurting America) is worth a little moral victory over the socialists.

And, I'm not at all sure that the media would allow the low information voters to think that the Democrats "owned" the bad economy.

Coulter is starting to sound like a two bit hooker who is ready to settle for 10 cents.

She's LOST a LOT of credibility over this past year... a LOT.

I was once an admirer of Ann Coulter, and I have all of the books she wrote before 2011. But in 2012, I've probably posted this song on FR a dozen times--and here it is again:

Annie Pulled a Humbug--The Midnights

Would they do any differently if they didn’t cave? The problem with the Republicans is how shallow they are on where they would even propose to cut expenses, and not just tax cuts. However, they don’t do anything to reinforce, and when the left uses a word, the GOP paints itself into a corner, when they could at least take the other side at their own words.

As history has proved, there is no compromise with the Enemy.
Soon they'll be asking the republicans to willfully step up to the guillotine.
And they will.

It’s deeper than that, it’s time to have some common sense, and realize that the Democrats are owned by the richest of the rich. Who do you think Bill Gates is affiliated with? Who do you think the CEO of Google is affiliated with? Look at the top 5 on the Forbes list for wealthy Americans (All Democrat funders), and you’ll find that the Democrats have people so stinking rich backing them, it’s rediculous, you could tax all these Democrat supporters, assuming that there is zero corruption involved (fat chance) and you would pretty much not make a dent, only ensure that you had a business monopoly in America. However, that’s the problem with the Republicans, they give the wealthy liberals the knife to stab them in the back with, by assuming the wealthy in America are some kind of monolithic group, when in fact, they aren’t. The only real issue here is cutting expenses, and taking the opposition to their own words, which is something the GOP largely is too lazy to do.

She and others as her have no use for people like me that have a small business. The profits are there to keep the company going. More taxes, we have to cut or possibly close. Why work to pay over half of your income to the IRS! Once the House caves, part of the base will never ever forgive them, Ann. She wants us to be more like the democrats. It’s odd every time Sarah Palin says charge down this road, Ann comes back to say, no, let’s head this way. Ann needs to go away. She can’t be trusted and her hateful speech does not represent me as a conservative. Please stop putting her on programs.

Really????, assuming that what you claim is true then is how your plan would work out:

Here's what the House holding back on those <=250K income extensions would bring,
In fact we know exactly how Norquists 's plan would play out from the FICA tax cut fiasco exactly a year ago

1) House Republicans listen to this guy and say ‘ taxes on the middle class will go up unless we get a full extension, for all that income above $250K too. We will not extend them without the others. We dont leave the job producers behind. We won the election.

2) In January taxes go up (assuming it gets that far)

3) Obama gets on TV and Townhalls telling middle class voters that their taxes are going up because Republicans once again are putting ‘the rich’ ahead of them.

4) MSM hounds Republicans asking them if they are happy they ‘raised taxes’ on the middle class

5) House Republicans get flooded in a tidal wave of angry emails and phone calls from those who voted for them.
They try to go home for a visit and there are angly mobs around their house with signs
I am sorry I voted for you. You raised my taxes you lying #%%$$”, many are white and 50 + obviously not ACORN.

6) The stock Market tanks

7) House Republicans even the most ‘conservative’ go to Bohner and say “WE made a big mistake. We need to cut those taxes (under$250K income) and put this behind us. My voters want to kill me” just as they did with last years FICA.

8) The House quietly passes the extension in secret just as they did FICA last February.

9) Obama signs it declaring that the Rs finally saw reason

10) The stock market recovers some just because the panic is over sand no one knows that the resulting Obama tax increases hurt the stock market because they think house Rs crashed it and O saved it.

11) Obama gets credit for saving the economy. AGAIN.

12) House Republicans dont challenge O again for the next two years. So the Republican party melts down in civil war. Dems bayonette the R wounded.

13) In 2014 election Reid and Pelosi get back the same numbers they got in 2009.

14) January 2015 Congress passes a bill making Obama King. (no more filibuster to stop it) Republicans blame voter fraud.

See how well your business does with no opposition to Dems you moron.
If you are really that stupid and not a DEem than your business would be long bankrupt.

RE :”Up yours Sick of Libs

The only one who will benefit from what you are calling for is Obama.

Republicans raising taxes on the 98% as revenge just because automatic tax increases go up on Buffet, Hannity and Rush is Obama and Pelosi.
You will make this the Dems best Christmas best.

Good luck with a Dem monopoly you Dem tool

Let Obama take the nation over the fiscal cliff. At least we will get some spending reductions.

Anne COulter is wrong again. She was wrong in supporting Romney and now she is wrong yet again.

The Republicans should go kicking and screaming in opposition to raising taxes on the rich. They should spell out why raising taxes on the rich will take money needed to grow the economy and create new jobs. They should emphasize the need to reduce spending and, without new reforms, any new revenue from taxes will not be used to reduce the deficit. And they should scream to the rooftops that Zer0 has offered not one plan in writing for any spending reductions. They don’t call him Zer0 for nothing.

I see your point of view, acapesket. A very ignorant electorate reelected a far left POTUS who wants to spend even more than he did in his fort term.

I also see SOL’s point of view. Instances of the GOP temporarily digging in its heels and shutting down the govt. have not worked out well. I don’t like it, but I think taxes are going up, but maybe not this month.

Plus, I believe neither party has the will or ability to stop the mad dash toward bankruptcy.

Boehner will cave. After the convention rule changes and our "Extremely Conservative" nominee, along with complete unwillingness to address massive voter fraud, including suppression of the military vote and gutless stand down in the face of the illegal, immoral and unconstitutional activities of this regime the Repubs are DONE.

We best move on to organizing another party for 2014.
