BOSTON (AP) They say no man is an island, but Michael Richard Smith has been creating his own floating homes in Boston Harbor.

The Coast Guard and Boston police are keeping an eye on the unconventional camper who has been tying his canoe to small offshore docks in the city's inner harbor and pitching his tent to sleep at night.

He’s a lot safer than he’d be if he was in one of those ‘we luv everyone’ liberal homeless shelters funded by the rip-off United Way...

the guy sounds saner than the city bureaucrats trying to hound him into accepting city “services”

but oh the bone chilling cold of being in a small boat on the water in the winter...

If I’m not mistaken, Harvard’s sailing pavillion on the Charles River is a floating structure so they do not have to pay taxes to Cambridge. I believe MIT’s is a fixed structure with an attached floating dinghy dock. I’m not sure which is older, but this is not a new concept.

“The Coast Guard and Boston police are keeping an eye on the unconventional camper”

Why? Has he done something wrong, or are they just harassing him because he’s committed the crime of being homeless?

I’m guessing that the Republicans in MA made this man homeless. Not sure how they did it ... but they have their ways ...

There are also several casinos that got around their states’ gambling laws by building on a permanantly-docked boat.

Hmmm, maybe I can get around the building permit requirements that way . . . I’ll have to check.

That's a tip off about how horrible the 'we luv the poor and homeless' shelters are... most street people would rather freeze to death...
