Poll finds New Yorkers convinced of climate change

Latham, NY, Dec 04, 2012 — A new poll finds that, in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, more than two thirds of New Yorkers say they now believe in climate change.
They also give Gov. Andrew Cuomo good grades for his handling of the storm's aftermath.

Siena College spokesman Steve Greenberg says the poll finds 69 percent of voters from every part of the state think the severe storms , including Sandy and Irene over the past two years, are because of global climate change.
"There is no doubt that the voters of this state, that the people of New York, believe that climate change is impacting their lives in a serious way," said Greenberg. "Only 24 percent think that these are random, isolated weather patterns."

Eighty three percent of Democrats and 68 percent of independents believe that climate change is happening, even registered Republicans are split on the issue, with 46 percent saying the storms are the result of global warming, and 44 percent saying that they are just isolated weather events.
Governor Cuomo, in the aftermath of Sandy, has said that whatever the reasons, he thinks climate change is a reality and steps need to be taken to protect New York from flooding in the future.
For that, and other reasons, the poll shows voters give Governor Cuomo high marks for his handling of the aftermath of the destructive storm. Sixty seven percent think Cuomo did an excellent or good job.
Sixty one percent thought President Obama's responded well, and 55 percent gave New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg a good rating for his job performance post Sandy. Even the MTA and FEMA got good marks.
Public utilities did not fare quite so well, with less than half saying Con Edison did a good job restoring electricity, and only 20 percent approving of the Long Island Power Authority, or LIPA's, handling of the storm aftermath. Half of LIPA customers lost their power for over a week after the storm.
Governor Cuomo harshly condemned the utilities in the days after Sandy. He even appointed a special investigatory panel which has already subpoenaed the records of Con Ed and LIPA.
Cuomo's own father, former Governor Mario Cuomo, created the Long Island Power Authority in the late 1980s, over his opposition to a nuclear power plant on Long Island.
LIPA is now a state authority, and its board is appointed by the state's governors, now Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as legislative leaders.
LIPA still had several vacancies on its board, nearly two years into Cuomo's first term. Since the storm, the Authority's chair, as well as two other top LIPA officials and one trustee, have resigned.
Greenberg says voters right now aren't making any connections between Cuomo's performance post Sandy, and the state authority that is responsible for power on Long Island.
"Voters are going to have to sift through all of that as we move on in time," said Greenberg.
The poll comes as Governor Cuomo visited Washington, D.C., for the first time since becoming governor, to lobby for billions of dollars in storm relief funds.

I saw a YT vid made by a NJ college girl where she was driving thru the devastation zone and narrating.
"We've got to stop global warming, they told us in high school this was going to happen."
Hard to blame the kids if it's offered up as "science". Probably everybody under 30 has had this indoctrination.

Just how ya gonna do that?
What’s it going to cost, both directly and indirectly in our economy?
What is the timeline over which the plan will work?
How do you quantify whether your idea is working?
What will you do if it doesn’t measurably work in your timeline?
Once we get some concrete answers to those questions,
we can talk about “stopping global warming”.

UGH!!!! It is not whether or not there is climate change! It is whether or not it is MAN MADE! Idiots reporting "news" to idiots. In the 70's, it was Global Cooling. OOPS! In the 90's and 2000's, it was Global Warming. OOPS! Now, since those two movements have fallen flat on their faces, they adopted Climate Change! Well, DUH! That was precisely our point! The climate does change as it has been demonstrated to do so in a cyclic, NATURAL, way.

Yes, in my days in Elementary School they taught us about the “greenhouse effect” as fact which was my first bit of exposure to Al Gore’s theory. I only had one person who gave us a more dissident POV of the debate who was a professor in Oceanography. Otherwise it has, usually, been about the greenhouse effect, global warming, climate change, UV rays and dangerous CFCs, saving the rainforest.
The topic is probably the one that will be most exposed to kids. Look at movies like Ferngully, or that recent family movie about Brendan Fraser. Look at the Captain Planet cartoon. It is so hard to escape this kind of indoctrination.

There may be something to this. Over the past several weeks, the average daily temperature in NYC is considerably cooler than it was just 4 or 5 months ago.

The problem with the term "Climate Change" is that it's just as carefully deceptive as the terms "Fair Share" and "Pro Choice". As usual, the Left abuses the language in order to
hide an idea rather than to
communicate one. A liberal's understanding of what "Climate Change" means and implies is very different from what the words themselves reveal. It's also different from what many of the poll respondants probably understand the phrase to mean.
Going naively by the common meaning of the two words, Climate and Change, there really is no "belief" necessary, any more than with the existence of gravity or electricity. They are each simple, easily understood and verified facts. The simple fact that the climate changes is not seriously disputed by anyone.
But like all the rest of the litany of liberal catch phrases perverted from their apparent meaning, we need someone to provide the hidden definition. It would be surprising and refreshing if a liberal would do so once in a while.
What a liberal means when using the term "Climate Change" is this: Anthropogenic (man-caused) Global Warming, a term which is much more truthful, but has fallen out of favor because of effective and factual rebuttal. It also strongly implies that strong action by the Federal Government -- or, better, all governments -- is desperately needed to "fix" this problem, or at least to punish the evil people who are causing it. People like SUV owners and other such heartless monsters.
I have a sneaking suspicion that if polls were open and honest about the hidden meanings and implications of loaded liberal terminology, the results would be very different.
