Calling ones self a conservative does not make one conservative but a statement like this ".... I believe in laws that are needed however you can’t make a law for morality!! ...." is the very definition of a true libertarian bent on anarchy. For the last 40 or so years has this country have moved away from legislating many forms of morality as was done for the previous 200+ years. Before that started this country was a country based on Godly morals and principals and it prospered and grew to become once the mightiest nation this earth had ever seen in its history.

Since many Americans started demonizing the morals and principles that helped us to become a great nation this country is now circling the drain morally and financially due to a hard move to left and the shedding of morality and God and His commandments. In short when America quit blessing God He quit blessing America and removed His protective hand from America. America is now paying a heavy price for that move.

I am more conservative than you I betcha!!! How did Prohibition work out? I do believe in the sanctity of life. Making a law doesn’t make a man god fearing. That comes from Worship and the Bible and mans heart... I believe in God and I think we should be able to worship him even in public. Are you going to make a law requiring it???? I just don’t believe that you need a bunch of laws governing our way of life... I don’t believe that the FBI should bust somebody when they talk of committing a crime. Like bank robbery.. Now they can put you in jail for talking about it when you used to have committed the crime before arrest!!! You probably commit crimes that you don’t even know you committed them!!! There are too many laws!!!

I’m going to give you the last word since you seem to be incapable of understanding the basic concept of morality and how it is applied to mans everyday life. Good luck with your libertarian values.

“You’ve summarized the Alynski message pretty well.”

You can beat on me all you want. If you’re too immature to understand raw politics, then I don’t need to deal with you. It’s people like this lady, who was over 0.16 that is causing the laws to get nastier and nastier for people that drink at half her level, and are no threat. You should be able to understand that - but maybe not.

I said, “You’ve summarized the Alynski message pretty well.”

You replied, “You can beat on me all you want. If you’re too immature to understand raw politics,”

You clearly misunderstand. My comment to you was in agreement to your position. I was simply stating that it is a specific approach that is prevelant in our society.

In all aspects of society, and at all levels of government, we are governing to the lowest extremes. Rather than prosecute these extremes that you mention, we are treating everyone as if they are those extremes. It is a wonderful tool to advance government control over private citizens.

In this particular issue, we are using those extreme cases to “crack down” on all driving with ANY alcohol use, especially without any person or property damage. People scream in support, using the cases you list as the reasons. Yet, I’d wager that the percentage of DUI arrests involving personal or property damage is rather small. I’ve seen stats ranging from 10-20%, however I’m not able to source that very quickly, so I’d defer to somewhat higher numbers. That said, it is certainly less than half of the arrests.

What have been the direct results? We have traffic roadblocks to randomly search all citizens. We have DUI arrests being made in cases not involving motor vehicles (rid a horse drunk, get arrested for DUI!) We have DUI arrests being made while persons are in vehicles but not driving, don’t chose to sleep it off in the bar parking lot with your engine running. We have DUI arrests being made while people are drinking and mowing their own lawns. We have DUI arrests being made while people are sitting in their cars, in their own driveways and listening to music. I could go on and on and on and on.

In addition, we have the unintended consequence of changing the general public’s attitude towards driving. The singular focus on DUI has made folks apathetic to driving. We now see a lot of dangerous driving that are resulting in deaths, but are not prosecuted accordingly. So, as long as you are not drinking, if you kill someone no biggie.

Let’s summarize, the use of those extreme cases has led to less liberty and more dangerous roadways. Alynski would be proud!

Apologies...I was so sure you were in the group that says “since he didn’t (yet) kill anyone, why punish him and deprive him of his liberties”. Obviously there’s a limit to that, such as the case where you shoot at a guy, and miss.
