I think that folks who want secession need to get real. That's just not in the cards. When secession didn't work in the 1860's, some of the folks who wanted out moved to Southern Brazil and became Confederados.

To this day, the Confederados proudly celebrate their heritage.

Isn't that better than sitting around whining about the United States and talking secession nonsense?

Today is a brand new world, and the power structure has changed. What proof do you have that 'it's just not in the cards'?

People were saying that about rumblings in the CCCP in the late 70's.

Look at history for the answer. Not only is it possible it will be inevitable once the Federal government finally collapses.

It may be decades from now (I believe within 15yrs), but when the "event" occurs, the States should be ready and willing to dismantle post-haste, all unconstitutional functions of the Federal leviathan. Large numbers of Federal bureaucrats will have to be fired and their pensions revoked.

The other side of a total economic collapse is either a dictatorship or a properly restored, limited Federal Republic. The States will be the key.

No, and it's not "nonsense". Run if you want, but most of us have our feet firmly planted on OUR ground, and we intend to defend it.

Kind of. But they speak Portuguese now and are well assimilated into the kind of country their ancestors would have hated.
