Morsi opponents, backers clash in widest violence yet as Islamist president defends powers

CAIRO – Thousands of opponents of Egypt's Islamist president clashed with his supporters in cities across the country Friday, burning several offices of the Muslim Brotherhood, in the most violent and widespread protests since Mohammed Morsi came to power, sparked by his move to grant himself sweeping powers.

The violence, which left 100 people injured, reflected the increasingly dangerous polarization in Egypt over what course it will take nearly two years after the fall of autocrat Hosni Mubarak.

Critics of Morsi accused him of seizing dictatorial powers with his decrees a day earlier that make him immune to judicial oversight and give him authority to take any steps against "threats to the revolution". On Friday, the president spoke before a crowd of his supporters massed in front of his palace and said his edicts were necessary to stop a "minority" that was trying to block the goals of the revolution.

"There are weevils eating away at the nation of Egypt," he said, pointing to old regime loyalists he accused of using money to fuel instability and to members of the judiciary who work under the "umbrella" of the courts to "harm the country."

Clashes between his opponents and members of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood erupted in several cities. In the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, anti-Morsi crowds attacked Brotherhood backers coming out of a mosque, raining stones and firecrackers on them. The Brothers held up prayer rugs to protect themselves and the two sides pelted each other with stones and chunks of marble, leaving at least 15 injured. The protesters then stormed a nearby Brotherhood office.

The Egyptians at least protest these dictatorial actions. take the fight to the Muslim brotherhood, and even torched the Muslim brotherhood offices for these actions.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2962363/posts

We on the other hand manage a comment or 2 on the Internet to counter the Obama communist's dictatorial actions as when it passed the Dream act with that executive order over the head of Congress.

Here Obama has done similar things with executive orders, etc. and the media doesn't report it so no one hears of it. And we who do hear about Obama’s communist dictator acts, all we do is post some comment on sites such as this on the Internet and then quickly move on to another topic. When will we all get together and protest on the streets, take the fight to the streets here in the U.S.A. against these communist thugs called democrats?

King Obama must be wetting his pants. One of his brotherhood might get their butts kick out of Egypt. If we only had a decent President now would be the time to support the protesters.

RE: If we only had a decent President now would be the time to support the protesters.

And who, pray tell, in Egypt can we support?

This is the country that OVERWHELMINGLY voted for the Muslim Brotherhood and in a poll, tells Pew that 92% want some for of Sharia Law.

And of that 92%, the majority 60%, want it strictly applied.

See here:

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/egyptians-want-ditch-peace-treaty-israel-poll-shows

The poll, by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, also finds a small decline among Egyptians in favorable views of the United States – now just 19 percent – while 61 percent of respondents said the billions of dollars the U.S. gives their country in military and economic aid has a “mostly negative” impact.

The majority (61%) also want to DITCH the peace treaty in place with Israel for over 30 years.

This was May 2012. I don’t see any good options for the USA.

This SOB has no excuse. He lived in the USA for 7 years and got an engineering degree. He knows life does not need to be like this.

And Egypt, like us, has an associate professor as a leader now. Academics are always a disaster,,all the way back to Wilson.

Obama will probably rush additional money and diplomatic support to prop up Morsi ASAP.

Is it inconceivable that Chicago-style voter fraud “elected” the Muslim Brotherhood?

Hillary and Obama are to thank for ousting the stable government of Hosni Mubarek, which had kept the fanatic Muslim Brotherhood at bay, and installing this power-grabbing fanatic Morsi. Just the way Jimmy Carter ousted the Shah of Iran, a pro-Western guy, and put out the red carpet for the radical Islam that has plagued the world ever since. The Obama administration is a fifth column, right a the top of the governmental structure.

He should have waited until after the Reichstag building had been set on fire. Egyptians are strong believers in tradition.

And everyone likes a nice fire.

Well, I’d be...

The Arab street mob got a small taste of power by over throwing Mubarak and now smells a wanna be dictator in the making...

Doesn’t smell real good...

Wonder what our “great leader”, the imperial wizard of DC, healer of the world, transitional being, will say when Morsi starts to slaughter his fellow countryman in the name of Shari law...

“crickets” or a bump in the road...

Well, well-it looks like we’re witnessing the birth of an “Egyptian Tea party”; could we be? Whenever a people get sick of their leaders trying to grab more power than they have a right to; you have the makings of a “Tea Party”!

Only partly. The same dynamics that got Obama elected here: gifts, class warfare, stupidity, topped off with some fraud. The main difference is that the stupid people and moochers (I realize there is some overlap) are 52% here and 80 or 90% there.
