Pepsi now selling ‘fat-blocking soda’

Pepsi Japan launched a new line of soda on Tuesday that it claims blocks the body's absorption of fat.

Pepsi Special is infused with indigestible dextrin, a synthetic dietary fiber. Even though dextrin has not been proven to have dietary benefits for humans, it has been successfully tested on rats. Which, apparently, is good enough for Pepsi and the Japanese government, which has formally backed the soda manufacturer's claims.

The Japanese Ministry of Health says products carrying its FOSHU label are "intended to be consumed for the maintenance/promotion of health or special health uses by people who wish to control health conditions, including blood pressure or blood cholesterol."...

A fat blocking soda test marketed in a country that has one of the lowest obesity rates? Makes perfect sense.

Yeah that's crap.

What we really need is a good soda blocking fat-burger.

I believe you will find that this is a liver-killer in the end. It might take eight years for conditions to ripen, but the way that it functions...it will have strong control over the liver’s operation. I don’t see how the liver just stands there and grins over this new beverage changing the dynamics of the body’s function.

And I would suggest that ought to be a limit of one per day....but there are likely some folks who will be gulping four to six of these a day....which probably isn’t good either.

Wear a diaper. If you go have a greasy burger or BBQ you had better sit on a bucket.

The ingredient they claim provides the 'blocking' mechanism is dextrin. It is a soluble fiber and is sold as fiber supplements here in the states. Get the same effect by taking metamucil before or with each meal.

In too high of doses, bloating and constipation are the primary effects, but it can actually improve regularity.

“Japan also has Cow Piss Soda”

Is that just what they call it or is it as advertised.
