Union: 'Bain-style' killing of Twinkie (Romney's fault)
Politico ^ | Nov. 16, 2012 | KEVIN CIRILLI

The Bain attack is back.

This time it’s being used against Hostess Brands, the Twinkies and Wonder Bread maker that announced Friday it was closing. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka drew the comparison in a public statement Friday.

“What’s happening with Hostess Brands is a microcosm of what’s wrong with America, as Bain-style Wall Street vultures make themselves rich by making America poor,” Trumka said in a public statement. “Crony capitalism and consistently poor management drove Hostess into the ground, but its workers are paying the price.”

Earlier Friday, Hostess Brands announced that it would be closing, which the company said was precipitated by a workers’ strike.

Trumka’s comparing Hostess to Brain comes after an election in which former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney was criticized for co-founding Bain Capital.

I’m pretty sure Trumka and his friends have enough money to buy some Hostess assets that are being sold off. For example, the Twinkie brand name and recipe plus a few factories. Then they can run it with workers keeping all profit.

I wish we could get union workers to start demanding things like this. If Trumka is right and workers can be paid much more than they are, then he can prove it. If he’s just BS’ing, then union members may pay more attention if he’s the one explaining operating costs and profit margin and workers’ salaries and risk and growth and ROI and taxes to them.

yeah, 5000 goonyan employess make the remaining 13000 non-union ones pay.

Oh, it's even richer than that -- a subset of that 13,000 are from the Teamsters union, who were opposed to the baker's strike. So not only did the bakers p*** off 13,000 co-workers, but significant number of them are Teamsters.

Might as well start setting up dredging operations for the nearest body of water now, if you know what I mean...

Oh, union opportunists, a company SELLING its assets because it cannot continue in business is the opposite of Bain. Bain BOUGHT failing companies and turned around about 80% of them.

Trumka and his fellow mouth-breathers are not interested in pesky little things like facts.

Note they’re really not LAMENTING the death of Hostess... they’re dancing on its grave. Union thugs don’t care a hoot about individual jobs.

Even union thugs like Trumka are stealing Sarah’s catch phrases, but the GOP treats her like she has leprosy.

Ken Hall, the treasurer and general secretary for Hostess's largest union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, said the timing of the closure "could not be worse as we enter the holiday season."

"Unfortunately, the company's operating and financial problems were so severe that it required steep concessions from a variety of stakeholders but not all stakeholders were willing to be constructive," Mr. Hall said in a statement.

Even the Unions blame the Unions.

For the next four year, no union will ever be at fault, no tax will be harmful to the economy, and Obama will not make a mistake.

George Orwell, just 30 years late.

That’s how communists talk. And some people still say that communism is dead.

This is hilarious. During his first term, Obama blamed Bush. Now during his second, he’s going to blame Romney.

That’s rich. Trumka blaming Romney when it was the union that brought the company down.

Just one giant problem with their argument: Tim Collins, who runs Ripplewood Holdings, who grasped majority control of the company when it emerged from its first bankruptcy in 2009, is a HUGE Demonrat financier. He and his appointed board are the ones who made this decision. It wasn’t an evil Republican!

Yes, there are one or two Demonrats who understand basic accounting. Heck, even the Teamsters hired an independent accountant to review the books and came back saying “we better take the deal or there will be nothing to have”. Unfortunately, they couldn’t persuade the BTC to see it the same way. 5000 striking baker killed 18,500 jobs - and the ripple effects on suppliers could be ENORMOUS and affect upward of 50k.

Organized labor is dead. No one has told the leadership yet but it’s reality. “Lunch bucket” “hardhat” blue collar whites are the least significant part of the Democratic coalition. The Dems keep stringing them along in order to get their campaign cash but labor gets little in return. If they had any power, the ballot initiative in Michigan wouldn’t have failed. The reality is that the Democratic party is the party of youths and minorities.
