UPI ^

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Labor Department Thursday said first-time jobless benefits claims rose by 78,000 in the week ending Saturday.

Initial claims jumped out of a relatively comfortable 355,000 claims -- the third lowest week since the recession ended in June 2009 -- to 439,000 with the four-week rolling average up 11,750 to 383,750.

The weekly figure has been volatile of late -- rising by 46,000 one week in mid-October, for example, but a one-week jump of 78,000 is a clear setback. First time claims have not been this high since the week of April 30, 2011.

Imagine that! It is as incomprehensible that a young woman protesting her virtue after having come up pregnant, “it must have been from a toilet seat!”....

Does anyone think Reuters, AP, UPI or any of the other alphabet MSMs are so ‘shocked’...

My only comment, if I were black and could say so in public like all black comedians “N-word, please!”

Unemployment rate is a survey where people are asked are you looking for work? People who affected by Sandy, yes are not working but they also are not looking for work, but looking for gas and power.

Obamadork... I kind of like that. Good one.

Obviously someone else had the same thought.

I think we're pretty safe starting to reference the Obama administration as the 'Erkel Years'.

The good news is, that despite the flurry of layoff announcements, the unemployment rate will surely tick down to 7.0% at the end of November. By the end of Obummers term in 2016, the unemployment rate will be 2%, despite only about 50,000 people actually working full time nationwide.
