Jindal slams Romney for 'gifts' comment about minorities, young voters

Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana fiercely shot back at Mitt Romney’s claim Wednesday that President Barack Obama outmatched the 2012 Republican presidential nominee by offering "gifts" to African-Americans, Hispanics and young voters.

“I absolutely reject that notion,” Jindal, who was a surrogate for Romney’s campaign, said at the Republican Governors Association conference in Las Vegas. “I think that's absolutely wrong.”

“I don't think that represents where we are as a party and where we're going as a party,” he continued. “That has got to be one of the most fundamental takeaways from this election.”

Romney made the comments on a call with top donors Wednesday afternoon, various news outlets have reported. The former Massachusetts governor also made similar arguments on a separate call earlier in the morning, CNN confirmed.

"What the president, president's campaign did was focus on certain members of his base coalition, give them extraordinary financial gifts from the government, and then work very aggressively to turn them out to vote," Romney said in the afternoon call, according to audio aired on ABC News.

Romney, who lost to Obama by 126 electoral votes, said the president courted voters by offering policies - some of them this election year - that appealed to key constituencies.

This type of bickering does nothing but distract from what really happened. This election was stolen by massive voter fraud in the swing states. I dnn’t know exactly how they did it, but I am sure that it happened. Until Republicans are willing to step forward and confront the cheating in a meaningful way... this country will continue circling the drain.

Please, leave Santa out of this. Even he has his standards, verified by no less credible than Will Ferrell.

There is a naughty and nice list and there is coal in one’s stocking. It HAS been used.

First Jindal says that Republicans shouldn’t protect the rich and now he bashes Romney for using the word “Gifts”. Get over it already. Obama has been spending a ton of tax money on gifts for others and gifts for himself. I didn’t hear Jindal utter this amount of grievances against Obama during the campaign as he is now doing to the GOP and Romney.

The Constitution should protect the rich from an unstoppable govt. with aims to confiscate as much as they can. If the rich aren’t protected, how is it expected that the middle class and the poor are going to be protected. The truth is that if we don’t get some sense, someday in the near future, the rich, middle class, and poor are all going to be miserable and only the power wielding rulers of govt. will be living the American Dream.

Bobby should keep his mouth shut, and be happy that he is safely in a red state.

The "Free $h*ters" won, pure and simple.

Romney lost because republicans failed to show up, pure and simple.

Jindal is behaving foolishly.

Never liked Jindal. He isn’t able to combine words into an intelligible sentence.

Jindal is my governor. It pains me when people call him a Conservative. The guy got out of college and went straight into government.

Yes he can parrot Conservative jargon effortlessly. But his governing record is one of a RINO.

Jindal like many other pseudo Conservatives have not internalized a deep belief in limited government.

Jindal's first love is the "good" the State (meaning government at any level) can accomplish.

Reagan truly viewed government as a necessary "evil." You will NEVER get Jindal to call government a necessary evil.

Sarah is like Reagan in viewing government as a dangerous leviathan.

the Republicans will never say the Truth as we all know it because they have no intention of changing the Status Quo in the District of Criminals.

To think otherwise is to deceive ourselves. Romney would not have made the cuts in the Government behemoth that would be necessary to stop the bleeding either. Now Obama is poised to raise our taxes to feed the Machine, to pay that bitches 187,000 yr salary and tens, hundreds of thousands like her.

Wake me when a New Party for the US Constitution has formed as the GOP is lost to me.

Romney is a loser and has no political future.

So better to leave the stage and let people like Jindal who are actually conservatives to take over.

I don’t give a rats behind about what romney thinks at this moment. He didn’t engage. He played a rope-a-dope strategy and lost.

I can hear it now, “12 million jobs”

But, Benghazi?......(crickets).....

Agree. Thank God for Col West...standing up to this fraud.

Too bad Romney didn't stand up to this stolen election.

DemocRATS have no problem trashing Republicans daily, but when someone in the GOP has the balls to go after Obama some in the RINO party have to go after that person its ridiculous. What Romney said was right, you give freebies to people and you own them for life its that simple..what Romney said was accurate yet you have Jindal bashing him for it..when will some in the GOP learn to stop kissing Obama’s ass

What? Better see post 29. I think we have deluded ourselves long enough as to whom it is that is conservative left in the Republican Party and its apparatus. These guys are players of the Bush-Rove mob. That would mean not-all-that-conservative.

please see post 28. Jindal is a CINO. He record shows that in no way could he be considered a true believer in limited government.

If Jindal was President he would disappoint us on the domestic front (like GWB.)

Yes, Romney is right this time. Jindal needs to keep quiet. Obama cut, sliced, and diced, and thus Balkanized the American electorate with each group being catered to from single women, to illegals, to Hindu Asians and Muslims, (”America is not a Christian nation”), to Blacks, GLBT, etc.
