NBCUniversal Cuts About 500 Employees

NBC Studios in Burbank. Parent company NBCUniversal is cutting about 500 jobs By Meg James November 12, 2012

In a round of year-end belt tightening, NBCUniversal is cutting about 500 employees, or about 1.5% of its total workforce.

The cuts are distributed throughout the media company, which boasts nearly 30,000 employees, according to a person close to the situation who asked not to be identified discussing the sensitive topic.

Some of the layoffs have already occurred. Two months ago, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" eliminated about two dozen of its crew in an effort to reduce the late-night program's budget.

A large percentage of the cuts came from the tiny G4 cable channel, which celebrates video game culture. Last month, the channel canceled two of its signature and long-running shows, "Attack of the Show!" and "X-Play," leading to the departures of several dozen people.

Los Angeles-based Universal Pictures last month cut about 20 jobs, including in its home entertainment unit, which has seen lower revenue as part of an industrywide slowdown in DVD sales. Universal also decided to shutter its feature post sound studio after its staff completes work on current projects. The closure is expected to lead to the loss of another 20 people during the next year, a person familiar with the studio said.

I know it stinks for the people being laid off but... I’m finding it very hard to summon any sympathy for them, and to see this as anything but good news. These socialists need to feel the pain of their decisions. Maybe a little negative reinforcement will help them make better (ie. not Marxist/socialist/fascist) decisions in the future.

No worries, I’m sure they’ll be back on their knees in no time.

I cut off Dish Network today. Don’t need them. Nothing on there I want or need to see. My wife watches the religious channels and I thought she would pitch a fit. She didn’t.

There isn’t much on there to see and paying the subscription supports filth and lies whether you watch them or not. Fox is dead to me now anyway. It is of no use. How many times can you watch reruns of Cake Wars? How stupid.

STARVE THE BEAST

There will also not be any Christmas Baskets or any of the other help I have provided in this season. The kids didn’t vote but their dead beat parents did. There have to be consequences for actions. Let their god obastard take care of them with our confiscated and hard earned money.

What doesn’t kill us makes us tougher.

I have to admit it makes me smile. For the obvious reason but also for another reason. Universal is the biggest actor pay cheat in the business. James Garner sued Universal because they said ROCKFORD FILES didn’t make a profit. Garner got paid big. But it didn’t change Universal’s cheating ways. I know some people who worked on a Universal film that is a cult hit. Universal says it’s never made a profit.

” G4 cable channel, which celebrates video game culture.”

I work in Hollywood and have dealt with the G4 staff. They’re not into politics which is extremely rare, and pro-business. Fun to be with. I think word got out that those guys did not follow the “kneel before obama’ line at Universal.

I would hire 2-3 of those dudes but we are shedding too..

G4 is one of those channels that started with a niche and was turned into Same Old Crap by media corporations. Before long they wil be running reruns of COPS and REAL HOUSEWIVES on Animal Planet, as that channel loses its indentity.

I repeat that line to myself daily... ‘That which does not kill me only makes me stronger!’.

Getting rid of not only satellite but the Tee Vee as well has been an improvement for me in quality of life.

Sucks to be them. As this appears to be in Cali, they’ll have to get to the back of the line food unemployment and food stamps, behind all the illegals... ironic.

"NBCUniversal Cuts About 500 Employees.

GOOD!
This is a GOOD thing!
Wow! Think of the joy these folks at NBC/Universal must be experiencing a being able to participate in a small way in President Obama and his Democrats' fundamental transformation of America. Such a magnificent gesture. I'm sure their faces are beaming with pride at their contribution to Obama's economic and social revolution.

ALL HAIL OBAMA!

Maybe they're just weeding out the ones that didn't vote for comrade obama.
