A score of people this past week have asked me about the three million Republicans allegedly "missing" at the polls this year. For starters, if the Washington Post is to be believed, Mitt Romney received 1.3 million fewer votes than John McCain did in 2008, not 3 million. For the record, Obama received 7.5 million fewer votes in 2012 than he did in 2008.
More than 1.1 million of the Republican votes were "lost" in California. It is not that California Republicans turned against Romney. His percentage of the vote was higher than McCain's in 2008. It is just they know their votes were in vain in that increasingly absurd state. The same is likely true in New York State where Romney fell more than a half-million votes short of McCain's totals. Excluding these two states, Romney received 300,000 more votes than McCain.

Its no myth. Many conservatives stayed home.
IMO, the missing are Paul non-voters. And too a lesser extent, disgruntled Gingrich and Santorum non-voters. They got what they wanted: an Obama win.

Gee, thanks.
My vote didn’t count either. I am from ILL-ANNOY where my one vote cast is offset by three or more voters who are dead, plus another few who are voting twice, plus a few votes that are snuck past the goalie on ballot-box security breaches famously identified by the Argonne National Labs Center for Physical Security. Our problems are epic, criminal, and include institutional corruption. How in the hell do you fight that?
My county voted with an 89.6% turnout and voted 3 to one for Romney. It was 4 to 1 in the precincts that I counted. I think that the only missing Romney voters were ones who died before the election.
I meant to add that we had ONE write in for Ron Paul. We also had one write in for Jon Stewart. Sort of equilvalent, IMO.
The current count has Mitt about 1.17 million votes behind McCain. That will undoubtedly close up further.
It was ~3 million after the election, but that was well before the counting was finished.
Vot anyway. P!ss ‘em all off.
Conservatives not voting in CA or NJ or NY or MA or IL or states like that is understandable given the futility of voting against dems in those types of states but I will never accept that staying home on election day is okay. If nothing else, people showing up could have made the numbers close enough to preclude this attempt to convince us all that Obama got a landslide mandate, that now has the political capital to stuff socialist stuff down our throats and congress needs to get out of the way.
Vote anyway!!! don’t be a missing “e”.
If California conservatives felt that way, they were morons. Did they only care about the presidency and ignore down-ticket races?
On Tuesday, the Democrats won super-majorities in both houses of the legislature, enabling them to push through any piece of zany left-wing legislation they desire, and it will be signed into law by Governor Moonbeam. Our losses included some good conservatives such as Assemblyman Chris Norby, who attended Occidental College, President Obama's alma mater, but actually graduated. If these losses occurred because Romney turned off the conservatives, then it shows how unsophisticated conservative voters are here in the Wine State.
The election was called in Wisconsin with only 1% of the vote in (by Fox) and the precinct where I was working still had not fed 900 absentee ballots into the machine. When my husband came over to tell us that news, none of us believed him. Especially didn’t believe that Fox News Channel had committed such an atrocity. Turns out they were right.
People who live in blue states should vote even if they know for sure their state, like Cal. or NY, is lost. Because final vote tallies can take away a so-called mandate from screwy, clown-dictators like Obama. He has to be a lot more circumspect thrusting socialism on the country.
People around here were very frank that if they were in states that were reliably blue, they didn’t need to vote.
Explains the difference.
Paul voters probably stayed home too.
I heard this morning that only about 450,000 more Romney votes combined in Florida, Virginia, Ohio and Colorado changes the election. That rather small number is easily accounted for by Republicans refusing to go vote — and by ‘Rat cheating.
That was my sister’s complaint as well.
This article says that the lost votes were almost entirely in CA and NY, where R’s had good reason to believe their votes wouldn’t make a difference anyway. In other states, the R vote was actually UP.
What’s interesting is the way the exit pollers/media have changed their stories as their previous stories have been debunked - just like Obama has continuously done every time a little bit of his treasonous iceberg starts to show at the surface of the water.
We were first told that Obama was able to win even though his votes were drastically down from 2008 because exit polls showed that the R’s had lost even more votes.
Now that the actual voting data is coming in showing the exit polls not only wrong but also unable to explain an Obama win (because the lost R votes were in places not in play anyway, and R votes were UP in battleground states), we’re being told that 11% of R’s voted for Obama (again, IIRC, based on the same exit polls that have already been shown wrong).
Never mind that more people than are registered to vote voted in large democrat areas of key battleground states. That couldn’t have anything to do with it.
Never mind that R observers were thrown out of those same areas.
Never mind that the vote-counting software can be manipulated to flip votes and nobody is able to audit what code was actually being used at the time the counting occurred. Or that the actual paper ballots are not being tallied by hand in places like St Lucie County in Florida, where it is acknowledged that the machine counting screwed up and where a “re-count” of early ballots resulted in a net change of over 4,000 votes - with over 2,000 of Allen West’s votes flipping to be votes for his opponent instead.
The United States of America is officially a banana republic which officially has a mafia-installed dictator.
Happy Veterans Day.
Whats the use in a electoral disaster if you can't break out you favorite whipping boy afterwards?
It is truly a sad outcome for Kalifornia to have the ‘Rats gain total control.
And soon it will be sad, and costly, for the rest of the nation as well. I fear there will be “too big to fail” taxpayer bailouts for CA, IL, NY in the near future.
I don’t know about Paul and Santorum voters, but I haven’t talked to any of my friends who voted for Newt who didn’t vote for Mitt.
Jack Cashill should stick to writing about things he understands.
That's true, what's even WORSE in this state is that now the Democrats hold VETO PROOF majorities in both the State House and State Senate! Can you say GOVERNOR MADIGAN? I don't know about you, but that scares the SH*T out of me. Madigan can do whatever he wants, doesn't need Quinn to sign anything anymore. We are so screwed in this state!
"... the results in several states do raise eyebrows, most notably Ohio and Pennsylvania. Romney received nearly 100,000 fewer votes than McCain in the former and 35,000 fewer votes in the latter. In all the other battleground states, Romney improved both on McCain's raw numbers and his percentage of the vote."
This does seem suspicious. Especially given the fact that Republican voters in PA and OH were well aware of Obama's war on coal, etc.
BS. The people who stayed home were narrissic losers. Now they've poisoned the entire country.
“but I havent talked to any of my friends who voted for Newt who didnt vote for Mitt”.Same for Santorum. The missing vote myth is just that. Even if some ‘evangelicals’ stayed home the states they were in went ‘R’ anyway. What bugs me is ‘conservative’ pundits(Bennett, Kristol, etc.) falling for and parroting this assertion.
I thought PA was in play; rally attendance, number of signs, coal interest, black unemployment....
Dems just hauled their sheep to the polls and told them how to vote.(Another name for ‘a better ground game’).
See and learn from my tagline.
Sometimes people around here can say amazingly stupid things.
Proof? Actual knowledge of these stay at home conservatives?
There is a concept in ILL-ANNOY that I don't think settles in on most people - but I hope I am wrong and people are catching on. The corruption has been institutionally incorporated so that the wrongdoing is made law, thus is "OK". How was it that a teacher's union rep allegedly becomes a certified teacher, allegedly works a little bit as a substitute teacher, and allegedly collects a full teachers' pension as if they were a career teacher? How is it that Richie Daley some how "worked" in the state legislature for a few months and gets a bigger state pension? How is it that some teachers get phony end-of-career, huge pay increases so that the value of their pension is artificially inflated? We pass smelly laws, some of which may not comport with the ILL-ANNOY Constitution, passed with the blessing of the House Speaker (Papa Madigan) and then never challenged by the Atty General (Baby Girl Madigan). Many Republicans just LOVE Lisa and faun all over her. Other Republicans in this state (more specifically Crook County) use the law offices of Papa Madigan to fight property taxes (cute relationship there, huh?). I think it is all part of a family-run RICO gang that uses the state as an ATM machine. We then all pay a hefty corruption tax. Wake up! Throw a monkey wrench into The Combine! Illinois is so BLUE it is cyanotic! The Reds are outweighed by the Blues both in population and influence.
I look forward to the destruction of California.
Be prepared to hear all about lots of voters staying home...the Bipartisan Oligarchy would rather we all stew in that mess..than having us all bothered, and deciding to investigate, about all the voters voting who never voted...
Listening to descriptions of how Democrats got out their ground game with superior ability to bring those to the polls who normally would never go by the commentators on Fox election night..made me realize..what they actually have done is track names that HAVE NOT VOTED IN MANY, MANY elections cycles....and vote them.
A well-funded project, county-by-county..to examine the names signed in at at the polls..and going out to find those individuals..youll find they were never physically at he polls..or they themselves never filled out the absentee ballot....or their names in the death registers.
The very LAST thing the Bipartisan Oligarchy want or need is any semblance of Constitutional Federal Govmt or a clean vote.
Both those are up to We the People to cram it down their throats so hard in DC they will, someday, never do otherwise.
Absent a clean vote.....We the People are being taxed without representation..Ask George III how well that worked out!
The vote totals cited in this American Thinker article are still not final either. Probably Romney will end with about the same total votes as McCain nationally and outperforming McCain by a few percent excluding CA and NY. However this idea has taken hold that McCain got 3 million more votes than Romney and keeps getting repeated.
How do they know that the missing Republicans are still residents of CA?
BS. Bush won in Florida and was winning the whole time. The bogus call by Dan Rather and the other Big Three drive-by media networks cost Bush thousands of votes in western Florida. If not for that bogus call before the polls were closed in western Florida, the margin of victory for Bush in Florida would have been large enough that there never would have been a recount. As it was, algore STILL lost every single recount.
The voting machines changed their Romney vote to one for Obama? Maybe that is where they went.
I suspect part of the myth is the idea that many stayed home and pouted instead of fulfilling their patriotic duty.
If those idiot Republicans HAD turned out in California, they probably wouldn’t have a demonRat supermajority in the statehouse, and prop 30 probably would have failed...
If they stayed home, they’re not conservatives, ‘least not in any self respecting, posess gray matter way.
I just talked with one last night. We haven't talked much in the last year and he is way too busy to be reading sites like this explaining the facts about Obama. With only a little time spent on MSM, many people did not realize the nature of what we were up against. For some people at this site, that is hard to realize. These non-voters are not stupid (although some probably are) just out of touch.
NO! It’s NOT effing understandable! CA has a supermajority house and senate and prop 30 passed because of candy assed “our vote won’t matter” idiot stay at homes...
I am forced to conclude that they simply would not vote for a Mormon.
Sickens me when you consider that they would vote for a demented back-stabbing fossil like McCain, but there we be.
They were there - at least in my opinion they had to be there with the many reasons. On election night I thought the results didnt make sense.
For a few weeks I observed what was happening and I thought that Romney would win handily. My reasoning:
1. The 2010 elections - shellacking and a change in the US House unlike anything seen in 80 years or 8 decades.
2. Chick-fil-a day; and the pathetic counter-protests
3. Prop 8 in California; demographics were young, middle age and old Californians and Catholics/Protestants/Mormons.
4. The Unemployment rate
5. Obamacare
6. Violation of Conscience
7. Violation of Religions freedom
8. Fort Hood
9. Kill List
10. The cut in Military positions about 1 year ago
11. The 90 day pink slips
12. The Black voters in D.C. voting against Gay Marriage
13. The 2 SCOTUS cases on concealed carry (DC and Chicago)
14. DOMA
15. Dont ask Dont tell
16. Russia Flexibility
17. Poland
18. Keystone Pipe Line
19. Israel
20. eating Beans and Franks
21. Take a pain-pill
22. You didnt build that
Seek to find evidence of Voter fraud; if it exists hopefully it will be seen.
What forces you to reach that inane conclusion? It was BS when the GOP establishment tried to blame that for the reluctance of the conservative wing to embrace Romney in the primaries, and it is an even bigger pile of steaming BS now.
And if your "vote won't matter", then still come to the polls and vote for someone ideologically closer to your beliefs. I usually vote for the Republican if I expect a close election and the Libertarian if Ohio is looking guaranteed one way or the other. Even though I don't agree with the LP 100%, I'm still closer to them than the Gutless Old Party and I want the GOP hungry to get back the libertarians rather than trying to cross the aisle to their friends the Democrats.
Seriously, are you going to argue this? Do you think this negates the FACTS of what actually happened despite Bush winning? The FACT is rinos are losers even if Bush trounced Gore's ass!
That is weak, I was panning for gold Saturday... and at work, and also casting lead, on Sunday. I managed to vote while working 50+ hours a week, prospecting/treasure hunting, and competitively shooting...
You should flog him!
Re-read your own post that I cited when I called BS on your statement.
And the 1st they won, Bush was selected! (emphasis added)You argued that W was "selected" (implied rather than elected).
