Anybody feeling a sense of regret among Obama voters

I spent a great time talking to my sweet, but sometimes clueless daughters about the impact of this election. They tend to see themselves as more progressive - pro gay marriage, global warming, etc... (before you guys flame away, please know I did my best -- this is college academic influence on them). The sense I get from them and from my conversations today with friends and acquaintances, is that there seems to be a overwhelming atmosphere of regret or to be more graphic and explicit...an oh s__t, what did we just do attitude.

I don't see an in-your-face hurrah jubilation like 4 years ago (except among the DBM)...just a quiet, somber reaction. I wonder if you guys are sensing that and if so, is it registering in Washington? The dynamics are definitely different this time around and I hope it is seen as unsettling to those in power. I'm feeling an edge, a vibe of unrest, uncertainty.

Yeah it sucks. I think I am conservative enough to move to Texas, plus I have lots of family there. My first preference would be Tennessee (partly because I love Country and Bluegrass music) but I don’t know a soul there. My in-laws live in Texas and I mentioned to my husband that it would be nice to be closer to them. He smiled and said he’d remember that next time he gets an inquiry about working there. Friend, that was your first mistake. All three of my daughters do not hold identical political views to me or even each other. But they are all productive citizens with good traditional values and all three voted for Romney/Ryan. When we were shopping for colleges, I told them I wouldn't help pay for any which was infested with liberal fleas.

My middle daughter, in particular, was a great student and got a ton of college fan mail. She pared the list down and trash canned any with a large "Women Studies" department or "Lesbian Studies" as she called it.

Once her list was down to a manageable 10-12, we started making serious inquiries and arranged visits to six of them, which happened to be on the short list of my older daughter as well. We eliminated one of them because we asked to tour the liberal arts professors office areas and found an excess of liberal flea bags infesting the department. We eliminated another two because we thought their scholarship offers were quite chintzy for what they wanted in tuition. I asked the girls to list the remaining candidates in their order of preference 1, 2 and 3. They both picked the same #2 and that's where we went.

Who know when all this is said and done what we’ll have left. I think that’s the reality that is setting in with them. Plus, I think it shocked them that we have spent a small fortune remodeling our home (can you tell I was anticipating a Romney win?), and I talked to them about selling, downsizing both in the house and income. We have waiting 23 years to do this remodel so this is something that is meaningful — not an impulse — and way overdue — and not even finished!!
