I plan to cancel cable tv, quit the health club, am putting off purchases that I had planned IF Romney had won.
Am happy to hear ideas...I have to say my spouse was literally in tears last night, thinking about what dangers we face (not just as a family but as a society and a nation). We prayed together, asking God to guide us. HE knew this was going to happen, and HE can use this for HIS glory.
We just want to be as wise as possible with the resources God has provided.
So we welcome your input.

If we don't have cash, we don't go. More CC security (never let it out of your sight) than going Galt, but we are definitely cutting spending.
Woke up wondering the same thing. I recently enrolled back into school, haven’t started classes yet, and am now considering my options. My husband is in the coal industry and we both know it won’t be long before he is on the unemployment line. Taking on new debt is probably the stupidest thing I can do right now.
My suggestions are to stock up on food, lower any debts you may have at the moment, start or add to a nest egg and perfect your shooting abilities. Avoid unnecessary purchases and take care of your own.
Me? I’m reading. Reading, reading, reading. Learning as much as I can so I am armed with knowledge and guns when it comes time to use them both.
No they won't close. They'll sell out to a corporate healthcare conglomerate. I could name one in my hometown that's done so already.
You are correct most music today sucks. Yet believe it or not my kids still want to purchase that crap so I’m refusing to pay for their I tunes.

Going Galt isn’t about moving to some other country. It’s about starving it of what you normally provide and is taken for granted.
If you want to do it realistically you could consider the following:
1. Pay off as much debt as possible. Starve the credit markets and be beholden to as few as possible.
2. Pull WAY back on non-essential purchases. Don’t eat out. Don’t go on vacation. Spend 1/5 of what you normally do during the holiday season. Simply don’t spend.
3. Homeschool if possible. Homeschooled childeren will become the standard bearers of conservative values.
Ditto times a million.
If the R’s continue to run middle of the road candidates we’ll continue on the road to hell.
The only upswing to to zero wining is that the pendulum will swing ever farther left which infers an equally distant swing back to the right at some point.
At worst we may even be at the end of this Constitutional republic. 231 years for the same form of government is a long run from a global standpoint.
My admiration for the Canadians is growing.
What do you tell other people to do?
I am looking ways to realistically “boycott” or otherwise not contribute to Obama’s economy. I don’t consider merely dropping some of my cable tv or canceling my health club is a withdrawal from life...
Hey, I just thought of something else: here in Florida many of us hire a lawn guy to cut our grass...I pay $30 every two weeks. Maybe I’ll buy a lawnmower and do it myself....hmmmm.
The GOP will cave and the rich will have their taxes raised and this will tank the economy no matter what the rate is for the middle class. I am in the target group and I expect the worse for everyone.

I went Galt a couple of years ago.
Think I’ll drink myself ALMOST to death and then go on disability. Have an acquaintance who did just that and now she makes more than she ever did working. She has better healthcare than I do too - and I pay over $630 a month for mine. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

If you can, spend the $ and get the "whole shebang" (all the back issues bound by year). You can't learn everything but to have such a resource of things to learn is worth thousands of $. To learn skills or just look up when you need it, wonderful reading too.
Look, I understand that you feel bad. We have lost a lot. This country is indeed the “United State.” Things are over as we have known them as far as participating in elections. The demographic tip has been reached. The coalition of minorities, freeloaders, parasites, the brainwashed, and full blown communists and socialists has indeed won. They will always win now, under these current conditions.
But don’t give up on God or above all, yourself. Bring yourself to a higher level of understanding, spirituality, and purpose. If tyranny comes in full, so be it, but you can live and love as an example for all who know you. Deal with situations as they occur... Greatness is an exemplary individual trait that can thrive in the darkest of times.
