Question: Ideas about how to realistically "Go Galt"?
11/7/12

Posted on 11/07/2012 2:53:04 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

I plan to cancel cable tv, quit the health club, am putting off purchases that I had planned IF Romney had won.

Am happy to hear ideas...I have to say my spouse was literally in tears last night, thinking about what dangers we face (not just as a family but as a society and a nation). We prayed together, asking God to guide us. HE knew this was going to happen, and HE can use this for HIS glory.

We just want to be as wise as possible with the resources God has provided.

So we welcome your input.

I was thinking the same things. My wife is from Venezuela and she knows exactly what ObamaNation will ultimately become.I told her that if Obama wins perhaps it would be a good time to temporarily move overseas and do some missionary work.

I’d be interested in realistic suggestions too. Not sure where to start with this myself. Feel free to ask me any questions that might help render better answers.

If you haven’t already, have a good six month supply of food on hand, so that you can at least eat, if nothing else.

We know there are dangerous plans upcoming initiation and we know "forces" are in place.

What we don't know is how we will respond when tried.

In my almost 65 years, I've never been tried

Many men have via military/combat

I enlisted but went to Korea instead of Viet Nam so .. I, and I think many conservatives, have never been tried.

And I don't want to think about nor talk openly ... but I think many are thinking thoughts we never wanted to consider.

Good question, and one for which I have no answer.

But here’s a couple of things I’m doing - I’ve been holding my savings until this day, thinking about adding on to the house and/or buying a new car. No chance now - I do NOT want to spend any more than necessary in this economy. In essence,

I’m going Galt on the spending side only, choosing not to give up my job (unless it gives me up first). They’d just fill it with someone else so the net effect would be bad for me, not so much for anyone else.

Big issue now is where to put my savings where it will hold its actual value and cannot be confiscated by a bankrupt government. Precious metals seem a little high right now, and are a bit of a gamble. Perhaps not as much a gamble as the US Dollar but still a little risky.

That all depends on your financial situation.
Can you leave the country and survive on what you have?
Central and south America have some really great spots for expat families, and the Philippines, where I am, is great for single guys.

I’m thinking exactly the same things. Figuring out how and what to pare down to get as independent as possible. And as far away from government intervention.

As somebody said, skills are worth more than gold. You can trade skills more easily and they are far more portable than gold or anything else.

Your wealth should be tied up in things you can use, like clothes, food, tools. Having it tied in some sort of financial arrangement, whether it be bonds or gold or whatever, is not as valuable if nobody is buying.

Above all, I think we need to have a way of staying in contact if FR and the right-wing internet goes dark.

All those blue state people are in for some surprises, even though they were warned. For one thing, all Catholic schools will begin to close after this year rather than obey the HHS mandate. I wonder if all these “blue” communities will be happy about the additional taxes they’ll be paying for all those new students. And Catholic hospitals (one out of six of all hospitals in the US) will close as well.

One of my big fears is that an increasingly desperate US government will find ways to confiscate retirement accounts under some guise of protecting them and also impose a capital assets tax to get at the wealth that people are trying to protect. I don't know how to fully protect against this, but my sense is that people need to move valuables out of the reach of the US government which is a tall order. Even Swiss bank accounts turned out not to be inviolable.

Keep in mind it only takes about 90 days to starve to death.

If it comes down to it, I can choose to starve to death rather than be enslaved.

Read Ferfal. having 6 months of food is nice. I can just about bet the guy that eats it won’t thank you. I have been trying to get folks to watch Dr Zhivago for years. If you haven’t you might consider it. The folks with resources have left or are leaving. Only the Bolsheviks will “have” when the dust settles. Go “to the mountains” but before you go you might want to have a little chat with Randy Weaver. That really worked out for him.

perhaps they will close, but I wouldn’t bet the farm on it. Catholic Church has let the babymurderers run the organization in the US for years. Bet they’ll find a ‘stupak’ compromise before any hospitals close down. in the long run, those buildings will get taken over by the union nurse managers to house seniors while they are sedated and euthanized - gently of course.

Well said...

Romney received 4 million fewer votes than did McCain four years ago. I was stunned and numbed by the results.

Michael Savage correctly predicted that Obama would win. We can only hope and pray that President Obama makes the right decisions affecting the future of all of the people he represents.

I know what you’re saying. If it is bad enough that having six months of food, for tough times, is not secure, there is no security at all, not even if you’re loaded up the backside with all kinds of ammo or guns or whatever.

But you can still create a situation that allows you to provide for yourself in case you end up between jobs and such.

That’s my job. So I’ll be out of work again in May. Thanks Obama!
