Chicago: First US Gun Tax 'Will Stem Carnage'
There are hopes a levy will reduce attacks in the President's adopted city, although he has been largely silent on gun control.

A leading anti-gun campaigner has told Sky News a new tax on guns will help end "carnage" on the streets of Chicago - where firearms now change hands for just $20.
There have now been more than 440 murders in Barack Obama's adopted home city so far this year, surpassing last year's total of 435.
Most involved gang shootings in the south and west of the city. It has been dubbed America's "murder capital" with a higher rate of killings than New York or Los Angeles.
Cook County, which takes in Chicago, has become the first place in the US to introduce a firearms tax.
Father Michael Pfleger, pastor of St Sabina Church in the city's South Side, said the $25 levy is a start.
"Guns are causing carnage on our streets," he said.
"Anything that makes them harder to get hold of, no matter how small, is to be welcomed.
"We tax things like alcohol and cigarettes, but we haven't been taxing firearms.
"But I'd prefer if the tax was a lot higher, and if every single bullet was taxed."
A proposed tax of five cents per bullet was abandoned by Cook County because the tax would, in some cases, have exceeded the price of ammunition.

How will they enforce it?
Hideously stupid. If you live in Chicago you deserve everything coming your way. I hope good people leave places like this in droves.
Gangbangers are running scared from a $25 levy!!!
I want just ONE of these liberal Democrats to explain how charging a $25 tax on each new gun purchase will “stem the carnage” on the streets of Chicago.
This is good. it can set up a challenge that a gun tax (like a poll tax, or newspaper tax) is an “infringement” of the right to keep and bear arms. Then, we can end the NFA tax silliness regarding silencers and machine guns.
does anyone really believe that bilge?
If one were intelligent and/or honest.
After all, it’s law abiding citizens who do all those shootings in Chicaggy, right Democrats?
The deaths by murder are directly proportional to the number of black boys that fail to graduate from high school.

But the fact that they fail to graduate from high school is Whitey's fault.
LOL. These people are so stupid.
I didn't even consider that. I like the way you think.
Recently up here in the UP of michigan some of my neighbors whom own a camp ( fancy word for a house and property as a second home) from Chicago, Illinois were talking talking to me aout this tax on guns. It will drive the legitimate gun purchaser away from Cook County and go to an outlying county to purchase a legally purchased gun. Yes the criminals will not go about purchasing a gun through the legal means. Cook County in its infinite wisdom does nothing but create problems with its wisdom is actually stupidity at its finest. Wonder where Obama got all his intelligence from the best of Cook County legislative brain trust - collectively known as Democrats - better known to the people of Illinois as the dumbkopfs of Crook County. This has been cleaned up to keep it nice and clean with no offensive profanity. Look forward to next year and the camp being filled about again from the hunters from Illinois.
I’ll bet that the Round/Bullet Tax follows within two years.
Rahm Emanuel ( 2008): "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before".
"Put some ice on that" has been replaced by "slap a tax on that".
“How will they enforce it?”
If the money doesn’t go into the general levy, it will go into a “Special Fund” designed to be used to “curb violence” etc, etc..
What it really does is requires the formation of another “department” that will require workers to “oversee” the funds and work with “partners” in “anti-gun violence programs”.
This is another money laundering scheme. Friends go on the new payroll and “administer” the program and hand out funds to other friends. It’s the oldest political dodge in the books but it works like a charm.
How about making gun CRIME laws tougher, Cook County?
No question the chi town “leaders” are idiots, but
surely they know it won`t do a thing to lower murderes
Just another tax
