Fox Exclusive: Security officials on the ground in Libya challenge CIA account
Fox News ^ | Saturday, November 3, 2012 | Adam Housely w/Jennifer Griffin

Posted on 11/03/2012 5:54:44 AM PDT by kristinn

Despite a carefully narrated version of events rolled out late this week by the CIA claiming agents jumped into action as soon as they were notified of calls for help in Benghazi, security officials on the ground say calls for help went out considerably earlier -- and signs of an attack were mounting even before that.

The accounts, from foreign and American security officials in and around Benghazi at the time of the attack, indicate there was in fact a significant lag between when the threat started to show itself and help started to arrive.

According to the CIA, the first calls for assistance came at 9:40 p.m. local time from a senior State Department official at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, to the CIA annex about a mile away.

But according to multiple people on the ground that night, the Blue Mountain Security manager, who was in charge of the local force hired to guard the consulate perimeter, made calls on both two-way radios and cell phones to colleagues in Benghazi warning of problems at least an hour earlier. Those calls allegedly went to local security contractors who say that the CIA annex was also notified much earlier than 9:40 p.m. U.S. military intelligence also told Fox News that armed militia was gathering up to three hours before the attack began.

One source said the Blue Mountain Security chief seemed "distraught" and said "the situation here is very serious, we have a problem." He also said that even without these phone and radio calls, it was clear to everyone in the security community on the ground in Benghazi much earlier than 9:40 p.m. that fighters were gathering in preparation for an attack.

Good find. That does seem to answer the question going around. It’s a great article on the whole. The author asks some very good questions.

This article states that the General did not attend the funeral, because the CIA involement was secret. ????????

Didn’t we FReepers know within 24 hrs. that the annex was for CIA operations? Do they really think that just because they don’t officially acknowledge something, it is secret?

Was just reading this thread .....

Libya Becomes Central Theme At Romney Rally

Brought up initially by Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani

Then the article had this paragraph:

****************************EXCERPT**************************************

But the parade of high-profile surrogates who opened for the candidate fixated on another, more explosive issue — one with a particular power to both animate conservatives, and frighten Romney's senior staff. For about 60 minutes before Romney took the stage, Topic A was Libya.

RE: "Thanks for dropping that point on here."
Ham's still in command has been brought out for some time. But that's ok. No harm done for repeated facts to be shown.

David Petraeus, your political skirt is showing... maybe your not the “man” most of us thought your were...

He showed his panties and bra when he demanded an end to free speech for the sake of glorious Shaira in response to the protest to the victory mosque at ground zero.

Giuliani needs to be front & center talking about this every day when & wherever he can.
He should be a visible & auditory link between Sept 11, 2001 and Sept 11, 2012.

Not surprising, I don't think. That's why I posted that we'll have to hold his feet to the fire. If Romney wins the Presidency, and Fox News and conservative pundits don't keep the heat turned up high on the Benghazi betrayal, justice may never be served.

That’s the most plausible explanation I’ve seen of their reactions to what happened. Makes perfect sense.

Are you old and tired? That’s my kinda guy! ;-)

Officers take an oath to defend the constitution and that oath doesn’t disolve with retirement. Any oath he might have taken to run the CIA cannot supercede the original. He has ZERO authority to follow an order he might know to be illegal and abandoning US Gov’t employees would sure get close to being illegal, not to mention extra-constitutional. He MUST explain himself soon because he’s losing me fast.——————————————————————————————————————————————————— Just to underline the point: He took his appointment from a democrat president who he knew was trying to cut his own military and who he knew was crooked as hell. He didn’t have to retire when he did-—could have waited a couple more years. While he seemed to be a competent officer he has a ways to go to prove himself in any other area. He now has his chance and the job carries a pass-or-fail grade.———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————Watch for new stars on the wall at Langley, CIA HQ. That will tell us how many of the folks we lost at Benghazi were actually CIA?

And maybe by taking the CIA job, he thought he could be part of the solution by cleaning things up and strengthening from the inside.
The man is a patriot. Patriots serve their country no matter who is in charge.
He should get the benefit of the doubt until the facts all come out.

Can Petraeus be tried for lying to the American people? He should at least be impeached. The CIA is not supposed to give out secrets. But they’re not supposed to make up lies to U.S. either.

IIRC, Once Romney became entitled to and started receiving the same daily briefing as Obama he was legally precluded from discussing anything that is still classified even if it has been totally leaked to the media.

Greta had Jason Chaffetz on after the latest leaks and after the classified documents were found in Benghazi. She pressed him repeatedly to denounce Obama over the content of the docs but he refused and only discussed unclassified memos that had been leaked to the media. Same with McCain. Greta couldn't get him to discuss any classified information and I believe that includes any discussion of the existence of the CIA "annex" in Benghazi.

That is why Romney has been so quiet, IMO. Think of how hard he would be hammered if he broke his sworn oath to keep all classified docs secret! Holder might even try to arrest him! Surrogates who don't receive the briefings, like Giuliani, aren't subject to any such restrictions so last night and today he has been hammering Obama.

Let’s also keep in mind that Libya is 6 hours ahead of DC. The WH knew about this at 3:40 or so in the afternoon.

I’ve had people use the 9:40PM angle on me like the world was all set to a single timezone. It wasn’t like Obama went to bed and things deteriorated.

1) this was not a real consulate according to sources.

2) my idea that Stevens was deliberately set up for death is backed by the statement here that the armed drones which NORMALLY fly over the chemical weapons depots were NOT flying that night. Was someone afraid they might be used?

Possibly. He’s also a man who follows orders - if his CIC gave an order, he’s obliged to obey.

No he’s not. He could obey his conscience instead and quit, and have a press conference explaining why.
