In Benghazi timeline, CIA errors but no evidence of conspiracy
The Washington Post ^ | 11/01/2012 | David Ignatius

Posted on 11/01/2012 4:16:38 PM PDT by Calpublican

A detailed CIA timeline of the assault on U.S. facilities in Benghazi paints an anguishing picture of embattled Americans waiting for Libyan local security forces that didn’t come and courageous CIA officers who died on a rooftop without the heavy weapons they needed, trying to protect their colleagues below.

It’s a story of individual bravery, but also of a CIA misjudgment in relying on Libyan militias and a newly formed Libyan intelligence organization to keep Americans safe in Benghazi. While there were multiple errors that led to the final tragedy, there’s no evidence that the White House or CIA leadership deliberately delayed or impeded rescue efforts.

We can all rest easy now that this has been thoroughly investigated and solved by the Post. No need for Congressional hearings.

Sure, ComPost...our Seals were painting a mortar with a laser because they believed in Libyan militia airpower, predators, and AC130 gunships.

They also believed in the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy.

They make themselves look like fools when they put forth this kind of cover story for the administration.

●1:15 a.m.: CIA reinforcements arrive on a 45-minute flight from Tripoli in a plane they’ve hastily chartered. The Tripoli team includes four GRS security officers, a CIA case officer and two U.S. military personnel on loan to the agency. They don’t leave the Benghazi airport until 4:30 a.m. The delay is caused by negotiations with Libyan authorities over permission to leave the airport; obtaining vehicles; and the need to frame a clear mission plan. The first idea is to go to a Benghazi hospital to recover Stevens, who they rightly suspect is already dead. But the hospital is surrounded by the al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Sharia militia that mounted the consulate attack.

I guess Barry's new fifteen minute rule for cutting red tape doesn't apply to "Libyan authorities".

Security for State Department personnel is CIA’s call...? This is the Wash-Post first foray into the subject in weeks and the premiss is 180 degrees out of phase....surprise!

Obama should have been on the phone with the President of Libya to facilitate things. Three hours at the airport? And then they know the hospital is surrounded by an a AQ linked organization? Why wasn't this called a terrorist attack rather than a spontaneous attack linked to a video.

Now that we have the timeline, the investigation really begins. And that timeline was available on September 11 and 12. Obama and Hillary lied their asses off to us and it makes the ceremony at Andrews a disgusting farce.

...The delay is caused by negotiations with Libyan authorities over permission to leave the airport...

When our embassy is under attack, the only terms in any negotiation should be "get the hell out of our way and we will let you live".

notice the story talks about the involvement of the GRS, a detail coming out tonight about how they were not used.

washpoo trying to get ahead of the story to control spin

also, the crew arrived at the airport THREE HOURS after it started... and then they waited another THREE hours before getting out of the airport

pathetic

we had / have a delta team within ONE HOUR of that embassy... WHY weren’t they deployed?

Exactly right. The CIA should not have been calling the shots on this or been the lead agency. The WH should have been in charge. And Obama and Hillary should have been on the phone immediately getting the Libyan government to rush protection to the annex at a minimum. I can understand the consulate being attacked without adequate host government protection, but there is no way that almost seven hours later the annex was without host country protection. Sending 6 people from Tripoli was not adequate.

Well I guess by now the traitors have had time to come up with a plausible sounding story.

But how to explain all the contradictory stories that have already been published?

Also, what is the source of this story? I could have done much better than this :)

And, why has it taken this long for such a simple timeline to be published?

I call BS on this.

Mr. Ignatius: If I was Obama, I'd just tell you to PLEASE stop trying to "help" me with this debacle.

Your "defense" is so easily picked apart, and makes you look like a complete A$$hole.

If anything, this article raises even MORE questions about Obama's incompetence.

I never thought it would happen, but the MSM is actually hurting the One by tying itself in knots trying to defend the indefensible.

keep in mind, we had live comms... and it SHOULD all be recorded somewhere

congress must DEMAND to be able to review ALL data and render a judgement (won’t be able to declassify... but the congressman should have clearance)

of course, the congressman must not be out to bury the story
