Despair sets in for some Coney Island residents as living conditions deteriorate rapidly

‘We are Katrina’ says one desperate resident. ‘Everyone cares about Manhattan. No one is looking out for us.’

At a 12-unit apartment building at West 23rd near Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island, several tenants are huddled together in one room where human waste is spilling out of the toilet. They need help, and are at a loss explaining why assistance is getting to them faster.

"We have no food or water. Why isn't anyone helping us," asked tenant Aeising Cancel.

"We are scavenging for food like animals," said another tenant Jeffery Francis. "We are in a crisis and no one will help us. Look at us. We are misery. Everyone cares about Manhattan. No one is looking out for us. Nothing. We are Katrina."

At an apartment building at 3024 W 23rd the power is still out and residents are out of food.

"The food is gone. We are scrapping for food. One person found a sandwich and we split it four ways," said resident 58-year-old Albert Miller

As time goes on and more and more tempers rise, Obama will feel the heat. As unfortunate as it was for the hurricane to hit, the timing could be helpful to Romney.

Correction: they never said Bush let it happen. They said he made it happen. They said he made it happen because he hates black people. Well, Barry’s about to find out that the truth is no one has figured out how to deliver rapid relief on a large scale to a densely populated are where the infrastructure has been devastated. They just don’t know how to get aid inside the affected area. Look at Haiti, look at Japan. This is going to end up hurting Obama’s image.

Maybe they should just call Andrea Mitchell for help, she’s the one who said Mitt Romney’s food donations just aren’t needed or helpful.

Maybe, but I'm not so dumb as to continue shitting in an overflowing bowl that fouls my own apartment.

Many people live on high floors. The stairwells are completely dark. If you are elderly or disabled, you can’t walk down 20 flights of stairs, especially if your flashlight battery has died.

Finally, a comment that isn't rushing to judgement of these people. How hard can it be to have a little compassion? Not everyone is blessed with the intelligence or physical abilities to cope.

“And yet Obama Christie and bloomie are taking victory laps all over the place.”

Perhaps they could petition Daddy Bloomberg to lend them some buckets. Of course they wouldn’t more than 16oz. /s

Let me tell you something about New Yorkers, nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people as long as their bellies are full and their home theaters are working... but take away their creature comforts deprive them of food, sleep, hot showers... put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same, friendly, intelligent, wonderful people will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty muslim. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.

“where human waste is spilling out of the toilet”

Seriously? They can’t think past going to the edge of an island and doing their business??

I predicted all of this... right here on FR and I was told I was full of it. Well I have lived through many, many hurricanes and their aftermath. I have heard all of these complaints before. Many good people prepared and many good people are helping others... GOD is present... but those that depend on government for everything are the first to complain and raise ****.

We have the “WOLF PACKS” and their tweets of the crimes that they are committing. We have long gas lines and traffic jams. We have stores with bare shelves and no way to restock them... prices are soaring. It is going to get much worse before it gets better.

They are already blaming obama in some places... the words most heard... “he promised... where is the government help”? Wait until they find out that beyond the $200.00 the Red Cross will give them... and water and MRE's... it will take weeks for FEMA to start trucking out debris from neighborhoods and when they find out FEMA's financial help is going to be SBA loan applications... well things are going to go from bad to worse and it will be a long time before it gets better.

obama will suffer from now until the election... he stepped up onto the stage and accepted 100% responsibility for this disaster and he has no concept of the job it is going to be to undo the damage... he has nothing to offer but words and they do not quinch thirst, feed the hungry or warm the cold... and they do not supply security... and security will continue to deteriorate until Martial Law is instituted... and it will be if things follow their natural course.

Too lazy to flush the tiolet with waste water? There’s friggin water everywhere.

Sad how thin society's division of labor veneer is. So many people count on the electrician, the mechanic, the plumber, the carpenter, etc.

If only the toilet is full in this case, then the main sewers are not backed up (they just had one helluva rinse, actually!) Most likely the water supply is down due to power, and these people have no idea how a toilet works and would be amazed to see what happens if you pour a bucket of water in it!!! Or grab a shovel and go outside idiot!

These events tell me when the SHTF I won't have to work very hard to stay ahead of the 47%.

There is no electricity to power pumping stations so the pipes fill up and then bathtubs and shower fill with sewage.

Ok, this was a hurricane (which they had plenty of warning about) and they STILL were 1)unwilling/unable to evacuate; 2)not prepared with any stores of water, food, generator, flashlights, etc.; 3)expect the government to help????

Guess I’m jaded after too many years of living on the Gulf Coast and ALWAYS having stuff ready to go for a hurricane and not expecting ANYONE to come help for at least a week.

What will these people do when the financial fiasco comes and our government can’t lie anymore about how badly off our country really is? So glad I live in the rural part of the South now and would not want to be in a big city. At least when TSHTF my family and I can take care of ourselves for a while. These city dwellers are in a “mell of a hess!”

You’re exactly right. Martial Law can’t be far away. Since Katrina I’ve heard it said thousands of times to be prepared to last 3 days because it’ll take that long for FEMA help to arrive. But, most of these people were probably watching “Dancing With Tom Delay” and didn’t see the warnings.

When Ike hit, we had plenty of food and water. We had no electricity for 8 days. And we were the lucky ones.

It is definitely going to get worse. I hope those who prepared also have plenty of ammo because the “zombies” are coming!

I have nothing but compassion for all of these poor people... I have absolutely no compassion for any of the governments involved and it is a learning experience that will show the failure of the nanny state to provide what socialists believe that they can supply.
