CBS News) New Jersey Governor Chris Christie spoke to "CBS This Morning" on Tuesday in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which made landfall near Atlantic City, N.J. and wreaked havoc statewide.
"The state of New Jersey took it in the neck worse than any other state," Christie said of the storm's effects. "It's going to take us a while to dig out from under it, but we will dig out from under it," he added.
Christie called the level of cooperation between the local, state and federal governments "excellent" and praised President Obama's involvement. "I was on the phone for the third time yesterday, last night, with the president of the United States. He called me at midnight last night as he was seeing reports," he said before adding that President Obama accelerated the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area "without the usual red tape."
"The cooperation has been great with FEMA here on the ground and the cooperation from the president of the United States has been outstanding. He deserves great credit," Christie added.

Actually, everyone WAS initially saying that New Orleans had dodged the bullet. They thought Katrina was going to make a direct hit as a category 3, and they weren’t sure the levees would hold. But then, Katrina made a swing to the east of New Orleans, putting it on the less powerful side of the hurricane.
And then, after the hurricane passed, the levee broke and flooded the 9th Ward.
But seriously, only a complete clueless idiot would belittle the Jersey Shore getting flooded and the widespread impact on the lives of those who live and work there that such represents.
And third, just how is being realistic about what happened helping Obama? If anything, a jerk like you posting on a conservative website makes us look bad.
Says the fake tough guy on the anonymous website. Josh Watts, is this you?
I thought his RNC speech actually hurt Romney..he doesnt know when to stop talking
Yeah, the election is in a week, now is the time to start praising Obozo! Never mind how much damage he has done to this country! -- he called me three times yesterday!
The last go around the govt bought out a lot of properties that were in a flood plain. Now in my area, they haul in 3 feet of dirt to build on the flood plan and cause that water to flood other properties.
But what many Americans may not know is that this $1.3 billion was a bill footed by the federal government, which underwrites the vast majority of flood insurance across the nation. Historically, insurance companies have been wary of offering flood insurance to homeowners because the risks associated with flood insurance are difficult to forecast, so any private insurance that had been offered was prohibitively expensive for average homeowners.
What else is obama going to say?...'Not I will not allocate relief money to Jew Jersey, a possible Romney state?" Obama did not do something deserving of great credit. He took other peoples money and is redistributing it to people who did not earn it. Fine. That is what we Americans would do. But give 'credit' to the Americans who actually provide the money which obama spreads around for his own political advancement.
I saw him on FOX this morning and the guy was bad tempered and arrogant.
He needs to understand there is an election and it is not just about him, this is about the country and him praising bozo the clown is only going to help bozo and him not Romney , or the country.
As for the storm, yes it was storm but hardly storm of the decade, talk about hype .The NY/NJ is not all of America, it;s part of America
The One deceived voters in 2008. He promised this would be the moment in history when the oceans receded. WTF is this storm surge about? He didn’t mention any storm surge before the end of his term.
The point is the subsidized insurance is available. there should be no further govt involvement.
My point was that flood damage does not represent a liability for private insurers, hence the bulk of the damage from this storm does not represent a liability to them.
Really? You can't?
If Romney loses, Christie instantly becomes the front runner for 2016. If Romney wins, Christie will probably never be President.
Thanks for your perspective: with Cristie as a major spokesman for Romney, this statement really is the best way to avoid “playing politics” with the storm. That, plus the earlier poster’s observation that “Christie has a tendency to over-exaggerate.” which for clarity I would modify as: “Christie has a tendency to super-mountain-over-exaggerate with far over-the-top rhetorical excesses.”, has reversed my initial reaction to his “great credit”.
Most people who know Christie will read this as “Obama did his job for a change.” People who are enemies of Christie will put this statement in ads that others will laugh at regarding the ability for Christie to show his enemies’ gullibility.
Right now, Christie has more to be concerned about than his left-leaning electorate. It seems clear that there are persons who may still be in need of rescue from life-threatening areas, and some communities needing resources to do that.
What Christie said is what ANY governor of a devastated state would say. SMART. He knows the election is in the bag for Romney anyway, so this won’t hurt Romney or him one bit. Prayers out for all those who are in such dire situations right now in the NY/NJ area.
I do agree after thinking some more that Christie took it too far, but he was trying to avoid appearing negative in this situation.
Right movie, but he has gone too far with it.
Well, it’s hard, even for an accomplished liar like POTUS, to deny a hurricane. So he did what he was supposed to...does he get an award for that? POTUS shoveled out money (ours) and went into his hidey-hole, sucking his thumb.
Anything obozo does is only done for the good POLITICAL effect it may have. Why is it that Christie and other Republicans have to kiss the butt of oboma occasionally?...do they hope to receive a perk here or there from obozo in return?...does Christine receive perks from obozo?
Christie is suppose to be so outspoken, hard hitting, and yet his so-called strategy against obozo plays right in to obozo’s hands...Christie kisses obozo’s butt and someone should grab him by his chubby jowels and enlighten him to the fact that We The People see right through that ploy, and kick HIS azz for the moves he makes that aid and abet the ENEMY OBOZO.

“At this point, I do not know what motivated Christies GREAT credit remark about the present inhabitant of the White House.”
I think the answer is within the story — Obama speeded up declaring NJ a disaster area “without all the red tape.” Remember, Christie represents a Blue state and is up for re-election next year, so he has everything to gain by cozying up to Obama.
I’m trying to analyze Christie; he has some very good things to say at times, often things everyone is thinking, but no one else will say, but a lot of the time he just doesn’t seem to know when to STFU. He’s a bloviator who seems to think he has to be expelling hot air 100% of the time.
Not buying it. He could have easily praised the President’s efforts and those of various federal agencies in expediting the relief efforts here in NJ... without getting on his knees.
Oh really? Ask the folks on top of their roofs. Ask the folks who are without power for a long while (me included)...I finally bought a portable internet server so I can use the computer without power...best money I spent. Anyway, it is EASY to say the storm was no big deal when you don’t deal with it. You sound like those nuts who said 9/11 was no big deal.
Well then Romney's in trouble. Just last night Cristie said "I could give a damn about the Presidential election."
Bottom line is this: if people do not take care of people, Obama has a GREAT argument for the GOVERNMENT doing it for us.
And those who advocate against caring because of the region in the country where the disaster took place, it only makes for a great Obama ad.
> What storm? Its bad enough the press overhyped Sandy, lets not do it here. I mean, this hurricane fizzled. There is no disaster.
Tell that to my Dad on Long Island whose house is now filled with water.
Don’t be a jerk about this.
This election is not “in the bag” yet.
I don’t know if you actually watched Fox and Friends this morning with Christie’s comments, but I did.
He was rude and ridiculously over the top. He was simply asked about Romney going to NJ and he lost it.
Sorry Christie... I do think this election is important. Yes even more important than this disaster. We can and will recover from Sandy, but we will NEVER recover from another Obama term.
Actually as I type this I just heard the talking heads talk about Christie’s praise.
Christie’s praise of a man that deserves none was wrong. I am really pissed off about it. Thank God Romney didn’t choose him for VP. You would never hear this crap coming out of Ryan’s mouth.
Christie was just on with Shepard Smith; he looked like he just woke up with a horse’s head in his bed. More praise of Obama.. .and “peoples’ lives are more important than politics. He looked like a big fat rat to me. You know that they will be using him in a political ad for the worthless commie.
You’re correct.
Right when I heard that fat rhino say it, I knew the rat party was going to use it in an ad.
Everyone on this thread defending Christie should know that his words will be spread wider than Jersey.
“Not buying it. He could have easily praised the Presidents efforts and those of various federal agencies in expediting the relief efforts here in NJ... without getting on his knees.”
I agree — not defending Christie, just giving you the likely reasoning as to why he did what he did. He could have easily done this a lot more low-key, but this is a prime example of why I would not support this guy for POTUS. He’s been great in some areas (like tough on unions), but at times he seems to go out of his way to look bi-partisan and in the past even criticize Republicans for no good reason. And let’s not forget in 2010 he endorsed Mike Castle for DE Senator — one of the biggest RINOS out there.
Bottom line — Christie is not a reliable conservative and we would be making a huge mistake to back him whenever he might decide to run.
I noticed he is still out flapping his jaws and haveing a love fest for Obama ...never mentioned all the Romney had done..all O dis is what every president does. when bush ordered state of emergencies he was cursed..nothing was ever enough..now Christie cant praise Obama enough..lol..does Obama have his fbi file?
Does not matter whatvCheistie does. He could endorse Obama and Obama would still lose.
Shut your mouth fat ass. (Talking to Chris not you Burke ;) )
Really? You can’t?

Correct. I cannot. I am not God. I cannot read hearts.
Anyone who claims to ...is merely speculating.
No disaster???
All I can say is I’m really REALLY grateful Christie is not our nominee. I like his personality sometimes- but I don’t trust him.
This would have been a good time for him to say - we appreciate the president’s response. PERIOD.
This is an internet forum. Speculation is what we do. That's why the internet was invented.
“This election is not in the bag yet.”
I repeat: The election is in the bag for Romney, by a landslide.
I dont know if you actually watched Fox and Friends this morning with Christies comments, but I did.”
I watched live, thank you.
“He was rude and ridiculously over the top.”
It often works with annoying reporters.
but we will NEVER recover from another Obama term.”
I repeat: The election is in the bag for Romney.
“Christies praise of a man that deserves none was wrong.”
Human devastation always needs to appear more important than politics. It’s the way it is.
Hope you are safe. . .
Gov. Christie’s over the top antics to the polite and important question he was asked is about one thing only: His ego.
I hope you are correct about the election.
The “human devastation” caused by the Obama presidency is a much larger problem then this natural disaster. I will stand by that statement. The repercussions of obama are felt throughout this nation, and will for years to come. Our nation will survive and overcome this storm.
That’s why the internet was invented.

Steve Doocy asked Christie if there was any possibility that Governor Romney may go to New Jersey to tour some of the damage with you? Now I like the Doocys, and the question itself was innocent, but it leaves open the possibility of Christie using the disaster as a political score. He wanted to stay far away from that, and I stand by my conclusion that he was correct not to fall into that trap.
I couldn’t feel more strongly that this will be an unprecedented win for Romney.
“The human devastation caused by the Obama presidency is a much larger problem then this natural disaster.”
Couldn’t agree more.

Mutual Admiration Society (1956)
We belong to a mutual
Admiration society
My baby and me
We belong to a mutual
Admiration societyI think he's handsome
And he's smart
He thinks that
I'm a work of art
I say that he's
The greatest man
And likewise he's
My biggest fanI say his kisses
Are like wine
He says they're not
As good as mine
And that's the way
We pass the time of dayMy baby and me
We belong to a mutual
Admiration societyWe belong to a mutual
Admiration society
My baby and me
We belong to a mutual
Admiration societyHe says, oh
You're the sweetest one
I say, no
You're the sweetest one
He claims that I'm a natural
When I say it's
Just the oppositeThe only fighting
That we do is
Just who loves
Who more than whoAnd we go like that
From night til dawn
My baby and meWe belong to a mutual
Admiration societyNow I do not exaggerate
I think he's nothing
Short of great
He says that kind of flattery
Will get you any place with meThe way we carry on
It tends to just
Embarass all our friends
And that is how we'll
Still be years from nowMy baby and me
We belong to a mutual
Admiration society
My baby and me
My baby and me
My opinion of fat ass has declined in recent months.
wow that’s one disturbing image.
