My experiences campaigning door-to-door in Virginia

Posted on 10/27/2012 5:36:20 PM PDT by Wage Slave

Been going door-to-door for Romney for the past three Saturdays in central Virginia.

A lot more Obama signs cropped up this week, even though we are in Falwell country. Yikes!

In one house there was a group of women inside who informed us they would not vote for Romney...one of them yelled, "women's rights!" After we left two of them got in their car and followed us for awhile, trying to intimidate us. Good thing my partner was carrying.

Another lady informed us she "loves Obama" because her main concern is the economy and he is her go-to man to make it all better. I guess you can't fix dumb.

Another lady told us that her main concern is women's rights and she will vote for Obama because she has many lesbian friends who cannot marry their "spouses" in Virginia.

Sigh.

Despite these folks, I encourage anyone who is able to get out to go and talk to your neighbors and to strangers about the election. WE SPOKE WITH SOME UNDECIDED VOTERS WHO WERE LEANING HEAVILY TOWARD ROMNEY BY THE TIME WE GOT THROUGH WITH THEM! We left them with a brochure that compares Romney to Obama in order to seal the deal in their minds.

Going door-to-door is a lot of fun despite the knuckleheads. I believe people are more responsive to this method because they are burned out on the phone calls and TV ads.

We can only overcome massive voter fraud with massive turnout. It's not too late to join us. We really need your help! You can pick up brochures at your local Republican headquarters.

Thank all of you who are getting out there, possibly in harms way to help the rest of us who can’t. May the Lord be with you.

In my Pasco County, Florida town, Romney & Ryan signs have popped up overnight like dandelions in a vacant lot. They're lining about a score of business district streets, both sides, 20 yards apart. They're showing up in the subdivisions now, also.

Looks like a sign distribution bombardment by the county's Republican Party volunteers, bless their hearts. They've got buttons going around, too. I proudly wore two on my bosom when I did Publix today. Got a lot of smiles and nods with them, to boot.

“Yeah, the Romney signs still outnumber the Bamster’s signs but I noticed a lot more for Bammy today.”

I live in Sarasota, FL. I just returned today from a trip to Miami which began last Sunday. In the interim, I went to the Dominican Republic.

On the drive to Miami, I saw not a single Obama bumper sticker, but some Romney bumper stickers. In Miami, I saw not a single Obama sign but plenty of Romney signs. On the drive back to Sarasota, I saw plenty of Romney bumper stickers and no Obama bumper stickers. I think the bandwagon folks are joining the fray and they’ve concluded that Romney is going to win. Don’t you just love those Independents when they come your way?

In my area between Fredericksburg and Richmond, I have seen an increase in Obama signs in the last week (must have been a meeting). All pretty much in the black areas. Some type of absentee ballot push also. Huge Romney signs on main roads. Romney win in my area.

I`m not as worried about voter fraud here.. they track voter info pretty well. Ohio, which allows purported “homeless” people to vote without an address, is a worry for me.

>> I can promise you my home county (Augusta) will go at least 75% for Romney <<

Augusta County for sure. But what about Staunton City? Didn’t it go for the Big Ø in 2008?

2008 Results
____________
Staunton
--------
Obama - 5569
McCain- 5330

Waynesboro
----------
Obama - 3906
McCain- 4815

Augusta County
--------------
Obama - 9825
McCain- 23120

____________

In 2009, Staunton went with McDonnell over Deeds by 58.5% to 41.4%. Waynesboro went 68.9% to 31.0% for McDonnell. And Augusta County went 77.4% to 22.5% for the GOP candidate.

In 2010, the Dems did not even field a candidate here for the Congressional race.

It is also encouraging that in 2010, SW Virginia voted out Rick Boucher. This is traditional Democrat territory, but Obama's stance on coal may have pushed them into the GOP column for good.
