State Dept: Texas can’t arrest international election observers
Washington Examiner ^ | October 26, 2012 | Joel Gehrke

International election observers planning to visit Texas polling places have “full immunity” from being arrested in the United States, the State Department said when discussing a letter from the Texas Attorney General.

“I’m not going to get into any kind of hypothetical situations or predict where this is going to go other than to say we have every expectation that this will be worked out and to state the fact, which is that under U.S. law they are eligible for immunities,” said State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland. Reporters tried to get her to state explicitly that Texas could not arrest election observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), but Nuland would only reiterate that OSCE observers have full immunity.

Attorney General Greg Abbott, R-Texas, warned OSCE that it “may be a criminal offense for OSCE’s representatives to maintain a presence within 100 feet of a polling place’s entrance,” as The Hill noted.

Just because they have “diplomatic immunity” doesn’t mean that Texas officials are obliged to let them go wherever they like, afaik.

Im sure there are other ways to ensure these “monitors” don’t interfere with Texas law, like being filmed at all times by the state police.

I still want to know why these observers are not in Shitcargo or Detroit? Hey how about a few in Philadelphia?

A second question. What enforcement authority does the State Department have? Suppose Rick Perry tells Hillabitch Clintdog to go play with herself?

The obvious tactic here is as follows:

You arrest the perps. Remove them from the polling place. 10 minutes after the polls close, you “realize your horrible error”, release them.

As far as immunity goes, surely our freedoms under 1st amendment trump some foreigner? How is that working out for the videographer in CA?

So, will Obama send in Federal troops to violate State law and support foreign interference in the elections? That will go over big /s.

Texas Rangers versus the Federal Marshalls.

It’ll be a good one! Million dollar pay for view opportunity.

Go Texas!

I was once appointed as an election observer by the local GOP committee. The Democrat hack running the assigned polling place refused to seat me because I did not have an observer certificate with a raised seal, just a plain seal. I had to drive back to GOP hq. to get a certificate with a RAISED seal.

Let Texas play the same type of game with the UN Observers. Tell them to drive to Foggy Bottom and come back with the right type of certificate.
