Mitt Romney is now tied with Barack Obama in Wisconsin, one of the 'firewall' states the president hoped would protect him against defeats in Florida and Virginia, according to a new poll.
Rasmussen found that Romney and Obama were tied on 49 per cent in the state, which Obama won in a 14-point landslide in 2008.
Buoyed by internal polling which shows similar numbers, Romney is to head to Wisconsin next week, as first reported by MailOnline last Tuesday. He will hold a rally in the Milwaukee area on Tuesday morning.

More like its on fire.
If Wisconsin is in play, there is a good chance that Minnesota and Pennsylvania are now in play too.
Romney has eaten away at Obama’s defenses until they’re sagging.
It does not look good for O in NV, IA, WI and PA - states he needs to win to have a second term.
Will the Dems do what they always do, initially fund it while loudly trumpeting it to the media what they are doing and how wonderful they are? Then we find out the funding is only for one year and the states have to pick it up after that, or be accused of not supporting schools (at least the states with Repub governors).
If Pennsylvania is called for Romney by 8pm, expect the lights to go out at DNC HQ in Washington DC. It will be done and done.
Obama HQ in Chicago will keep hoping for a miracle but the packing lists will start being made at the White House.
The momentum is clearly in favor of Romney, and he’s on the offensive everywhere. I don’t think 0bama has any counter-attack capability left. He’s bankrupt of ideas, and now it’s too late conjure up anything more.
I think the landslide is building up like a tsunami wave, and it’s only going to get bigger in the next week.
Not only has Romney already won NC, Florida and Virginia, he will win all the remaining “battleground” states, and you can count on Colorado, Ohio, Iowa, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
I read yesterday that Romney campaign is buying ad time in MN. That will cover a large part of western WI and — maybe? — put MN in play also.
Check the keyword for Benghazi....absolute torrents of articles and statements.
Saw an abbreviated Brett Baer Special Report on the Benghazi coverup ,...attack this morning.
Expect more to be shown tonight and Sunday ...believe at 10 pm EST.
Saw only part of that report this morning. Pre-empted here for Romney campaign speech.
Oh, I see that you had 37 minutes cut off the report too.
This will be on two more times tomorrow. I don’t believe it will be on again today.
I missed his report last weekend, and had to pull it off the internet.
They’re quite good.
