TV anchor Jennifer Livingston blasts viewer who attacked her weight

A local news anchor took the air Tuesday to blast a viewer who attacked her for being overweight.

Jennifer Livingston of WKBT in La Crosse, Wis., slammed the viewer on-air after he wrote in to complain that Livingston wasn't "a suitable example for this community's young people, girls in particular" because of her size.

"I was surprised indeed to witness that your physical condition hasn't improved for many years," the viewer wrote in the email titled "Community Responsibility."

"I leave you this note hoping that you'll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle."

The letter quickly went viral after her husband, fellow WKBT anchor Mike Thompson posted it to his Facebook page Friday, telling followers that it made him "sick to his stomach."

Isn't it funny when I read the Huffington Post as well today, and saw all the outrage to the email comments about this news anchor's weight...however, I can easily find threads about New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on HuffPost mocking his obesity...many of the HuffPost posts attacking his weight with the most vicious invective?

Ask any sailor—anchors are supposed to be heavy.

Their FCC license should be revoked.

You don’t spend 15 minutes of broadcast time lambasting a private emailer without offering rebuttal time.

Oh, grow up and stop begging for attention.

Ms. Livingston actually has no public responsibility regarding health or fitness (although she has a responsibility to herself and her family). If her employer finds her appearance satisfactory, that's that, as far as the public is concerned.

I'll bet the station management is cheering all this free publicity! One even wonders whether the whole thing might be a setup to increase ratings and page views at the station's website ...

There is a reason I watch Fox News for Megan Kelly and not MSNBC and Rachel Madcow. I am a dude, and I like my women anchorwomen thin and attractive. Shoot me!

Good for Jennifer! She stuck up for herself nicely and it’s nice to see someone who doesn’t look like a stick figure on a news program.

She’s fat. She can either accept it or change it, but instead she and her husband decided to make an issue of it. Their choice.

Calling someone ‘fatty’ or ‘obese’ a hate crime in Britain

British MPs have suggested that calling someone “fatty” or “obese” should be considered a hate crime on a par with racism or homophobia. Generations of children have traded banter - or bullying, depending on your perspective - about body weight in the schoolyard, and Enid Blyton even named one of her characters “Fatty” in her Five Find-Outers series.

just don’t call me late for dinner, fatty.

However, when I trolled on Huffington Post, I noticed the anger toward anyone who dared attack her weight. But find any thread on NJ Gov. Christie on HuffPost, and all have posts calling him vile names about his weight. I am pointing out liberals are double standards scum.

I love Kelly Cass on the Weather Channel...not bone thin, but beautiful with great gams.

I don’t watch newscasts because I’m so sick of their preaching to us about health and environmental hazards. If this chick was getting a dose of her own medicine, I don’t feel so sorry for her but I presume that, at a small town station, she probably has other reasons for her size, not the least of which is enduring those Wisconsin winters.

The good news for the station is that now everyone is going to watch the program to see how fat she really is.

My bet is that it was some Lib writing this letter. Those oh so tolerant Libs are usually the ones who mock fat Red State Americans who shop at Walmart.

She's certainly no stick figure.

I'm sorry, I don't like to see fat women. If she wants to be fat, thats fine - its her prerogative. But I don't have to like it and she shouldn't have monopolized that much time simply to whine and feel sorry for herself.

First- The person who sent the email is rude and an insensitive clod. Its not his business (or anyone elses) what a person weighs (this is especially true of the government).
Second- The news anchor protests too much. Every idiot with an opinion has email capability. If you dont make an idiot’s opinion public it fades into nothingness. That what should have happened here. If she was offended, confront the clod in private, dont broadcast it
