How the AARP Made $2.8 Billion By Supporting Obamacare's Cuts to Medicare

As you know if you’ve been reading this blog, Obamacare cuts $716 billion from Medicare in order to pay for its $1.9 trillion expansion of coverage to low-income Americans. It’s one of the reasons why seniors are more opposed to the new health law than any other age group. So why is it that the group that purports to speak for seniors, the American Association of Retired Persons, so strongly supports a law that most seniors oppose? According to an explosive new report from Sen. Jim DeMint (R., S.C.), it’s because those very same Medicare cuts will give the AARP a windfall of $1 billion in insurance profits, and preserve another $1.8 billion that AARP already generates from its business interests.

AARP is an insurance company. It no longer represents anyone except the management and directors.

IMH0-

Healthcare is way overrated and overpriced.

Better to live a full life and then leave it than to drag on, eaking your last farthing out and gaining nothing ultimately..

I know seniors taking so many different meds they don’t know what is doing what.

Horseshit- take your threescore and ten or fourscore and go live with your Maker. Relying on “pharmakeia” is un-Scriptural, again, IMHO.

I thought AARP was non profit. Whether it is or isn’t, “who” gets the money?

I wouldn’t use meds to prolong my life, but I don’t have much problem using meds to kill my physical pain so I can have a more quality life, while I am living.

AARP IS NOT AN INSURANCE COMPANY.

AARP IS AN INSURANCE AGENCY LICENSED BY THE STATE TO SELL THE INSURANCE PRODUCTS OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES THAT AARP IS CONTRACTED WITH.

THEY ALSO OFFER OTHER PRODUCTS FOR WHICH THEY ARE PAID FEES OR COMMISSIONS TO MARKET TO THE SENIOR MARKET.

The R/R campaign needs to counter these lying Rat ads running nonstop on my TV of an old lady asking her son for advice about all the scary talk of losing her Medicare. Of course he advises her to vote for 0bama who will protect her from the evil Romney.

Doesn’t AARP own United Healthcare? Making it both an agent and an insurer?

My 92 year old mother just got a notice that her pension from Goodyear will no longer be paying for her secondary or dental insurance. They have been taking out deductions for this insurance for many years. Now I am going to have to find other insurance for her. I am tearing out my hair.

I agree. People seem to think they can cheat death by having as many tests and treatments done to them as they can find. No, I am not in favor of Obama-no-care, but we are being sold way too many medical interventions that often cause more harm than good. We need to become more informed health care consumers.

You would like the book, Rethinking Aging, by Dr. Nortin Hadler.

AARP Services, Inc is a for-profit company that sells healthcare insurance, among many other services. AARP Foundation is a nonprofit that basically lobbies for the interests of AARP Services.

I was an AARP member, until they stated in their own magazine, that they were in favor of Obamacare. I removed myself from their rolls, much to the chagrin of the CSR’s question as to “why”. I told the CSR, that I do not support any Communist programs in this country. The CSR got off on a tirade, to where I had to remind them, that i was told that this was a recorded telephone call, and that they had better look out for their boss, who I was sure, had been listening to the conversation.

Not a member and will never be a member of AARP.

Question - Did any AARP members receive any of those funds?

Or just the head honchos and the Democratic Party??

Non profit is a misnomer. Non profit businesses make huge amounts of money just like any other corporation but are restricted from investing their profits into any other business than their own via stock or otherwise.

However, they are totally unrestricted in THEIR organization if giving any amounts of money they wish to their employees or contractors.

With AARP the actual “non-profit” profits are HUGE and management is diving into the money pile just like Scrooge McDuck.

Pretty neat, huh?
