Iowa gets called a ‘battleground’ state because it gave a 10,000 vote margin to Pres. Bush in his 2004 reelection. All Dems otherwise. Reagan was the last popular Republican to Iowans.
I still don’t understand why Romney would bother talking to AARP. That’s nothing more than the marketing arm of an insurance company.
Probably because the NRA is mostly about hunting in PA, less about the more conservative self-defense ethic. But, yeah, that doesn't mean they still shouldn't be able to exert some influence. A lot of those might be in the GOP base already. The suburban, well-off voters are not big on guns or hunting but do cower in fear of global warming. As someone said, those are the counties that turned Dem in the early '90s and the NRA has no influence over them.
Even in this pale remnant of America, you're still not required to give evidence against yourself.
Not according to the numbers. Of the five counties around Philly, only Chester is really below the state average for unemployment and only Chester has positive economic growth. Philly and Delaware are in the can. Montgomery and Bucks are holding at around the average. Some of Chester's good numbers are coming from the very good agricultural economy in Lancaster, Lebanon and Berks. In overall trends, the Philadelphia area is not regarded as a future area for economic growth in PA.
That all said, I'm very skeptical of these pictures and testimonial, and agree with you that things aren't really that bad in Southeastern PA. You wanna see bad, take a sharp right at Toledo, OH and head up I-75 toward Detroit.
There are some who are saying - and I tend to agree - that if Obama wins, it will be the end of the Republican Party and a third party will emerge.
People are getting sick and tired of the "establishment" picking their candidates for them. Both parties have been infiltrated by liberals and neither party is to be trusted as a "party" in terms of standing on principle.
Politics here in the U.S.A. seem to be wafting in the direction of the former Soviet Union where people were bamboozled into believing that come election time, they had a choice of candidates.....when every election result was really a case of "meet the new boss....he's the same as the old boss."

Romney might have shot here if they had any ads! All we see ae Obama TV ads. Add that to the fact that all media coverage is pro-Obama and you have a recipe for a secure Obama win here. But there are lots of ticked of folks here. Given some better TV coverage and PA might actually be in play!

It's all about turnout ~ and both parties can turn out enough voters to win any election ~
HENCE, there is no turnout model at all ~ but we do have a phenomenon that creates concern all over the place, and actually fear and loathing in some quarters. That phenomenon is the declining popularity of both major party candidates.
For Obamugabe that drop has been occurring for the last 2 years. For Romney it happened during the debates where he squandered quite a bit of good will, and then during the early primaries where he squandered even more good will by appearing to be oblivious to gross campaigning irregularities by his confederates in the state parties (Virginia in particular).
Usually by the time you work your way through a party nominating convention most of that is out of the way and the game is on to raise your own candidate's popularity.
Now with Obamugabe there's not much he can do about loss of popularity at this late date but his campaign is not doing much to STOP THE LOSS. With Romney he's on his way to California ~ and I am waiting for him to start his campaign. Early voting has begun!

Texas going blue is a real possibility. California was a red state 30 yrs ago. God help us.

I’d be skeptical of the article too, with quotes like these, “The corporate fascist ruling plutocracy uses their propaganda mouthpieces in the mainstream corporate media and government agency drones to misinform and obscure the truth...”
Whatever it is, it wasn’t written as an objective analysis of anything. This guy has an agenda.
Go to this site and click the “compared to state average” unemployment button on the bottom. For July, Bucks, Montco, and Chester were all below the state average unemployment. Delaware of course has more problems, growing right out of the Philly slums on its eastern border. Head north out of these counties, and you run into economically weaker territory.

Also, they ranked 25, 66 and 77 on the wealthiest counties in America in 2010, out of 3,141 counties. No other Pennsylvania counties made the top 100. So there’s enough of a cushion here that a slump isn’t as painful or have as many ripple effects on the local economy.

But I wasn't thinking about the NRA being able to influence squishy "Republicans" or Green Dems down on the Main Line, so much as helping GOTV and getting the message out that Dems haven't really changed their tune about the 2nd Amendment with those to whom it matters. And they did nothing in the Bush/Kerry election-cycle to counter that moron -- can't remember his name now, used to play for the Redskins -- and his fake "Sensible Gun Rights" PAC that ran so many adds for John "F" Kerry.
In 2010, Republicans took back five congressional seats from Democrats, elected a Republican Governor, and elected a strong conservative U.S. Senator, Pat Toomey. The PA General Assembly is GOP controlled. Republicans hold a 30-20 majority in the Senate, and a 112-90 majority in the House.
