“Why do the western world bother to help these people?”

Uh,

Old but
Industrially-important
Liquids

Let’s be honest - it’s necessary for nations to grow - and it used to be cheap - and then when they got all the money, there were dictators and armies built with it.

And so the thing mushrooms.

We’re not under the Saudi thumb because we like their fancy garb. Incredibly, their citizens attack us on 9/11 (15 of the 19 hijackers).

This thing is not going to end well, when it’s all over.

"More to come, maybe, but Obama is going to have to do something now. "

I can't decide if he's going to try to downplay it, capitalize on it, or somehow try to do both. Should be interesting. This on top of the Cairo thing and the Bibi/Israel row, and one thing's for sure: higher fuel costs running up to the election.

Fasten seatbelts time.

A strongly worded letter might be offensive - that’s a lot to risk. The school bully wants the lunch money and he wants it on time. And he doesn’t want any lip. Obama will go with an apology of types..

I am curious to the time the Ambassador was killed. If the White House sat on this for several hours before the press reported it, they must have had to wait for Obathouse to wake up.

Well we knew one person was killed long before he should have went to bed. If this is all one event, they’ve sat on it for a very long time.

Yep...if it was just a “lowly” service member the media would merely write it off as the cost of business, but when it’s one of their own beautiful people” set, there will be recriminations. If one of our ambassadors can be killed without consequence, every member of our foreign service has just been put in jeopardy.

Obama doesn’t want to admit to Americans killed on a 9/11 anniversary in a nation he was involved in war action in.

Bada-bing, bada-boom, hit on his campaign.

Prepare for mucho spin-doctoring.

If we really just wanted the oil in this case, we would have supported these countries’ former governments - but suddenly we’ve gone ideological. And what is the ideology we’re supporting? Islam.

Obama was complicit in the destruction of both of these governments, which while they were undeniably dictatorships, were much more tolerant of non-Muslims, women, etc., and had generally been brought/bought to cooperate with us.

It was about oil once, but now it’s about ideology: Obama’s anti-American, Third World Islamist fantasy being promoted with our dollars, and oil be damned.

After all, we’ ll all be using solar pretty soon once he funds another solyndra. This man is killing us.

Sorry to sound hysterical. I’m so angry this morning that I can barely swallow my coffee.

In the 1920’s in the Middle East (Turkey aside) they were so heavily-armed.

Those were the days of Aramco (as I recall) in Libya or one of them that got nationalized and Wheeler AFB in WWII became a full Libyan Air Force (as bad as they are) base.

But it became a long-term relationship that grew into something else. Where you had small-time regional dictators, it eventually grew into a full-on Islamic expansion.

How many mosques in the USA in 1960? Probably not many; certainly not like now.

And then the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

For me, the thing that really kicked it off was the 1974 Arab Oil Embargo. This was in response to Nixon (rightfully) sending military assistance to Golda Meir in October, 1973.

This changed the landscape radically. Now the muslims were on a “mission” and they had the money to make real war in the Middle East with gigantic armies fielding modern equipment.

And of course, Mother Russia steps in, funding and arming the other sides as they had since the 50’s or so (maybe even not that long after WWII).

Now we have a volatile mix of oil, weapons, Jerusalem and islamic religious fervor.

It won’t end well. But I’m still expecting that false peace that is coming.

Doesn’t mean there won’t be something(s) big before it.

Holy cow.

Is it time to say that this wouldn’t have happened under Qaddafi? Obama has replaced largely secular dictators and replaced them with transnational Islamists in order to pave the way for the creation of the Greater Caliphate. Assad is next, then the unified attack on Israel.

It is enormously complicated, as you point out.

I think we may see other attacks on US interests in the very near future, at least in part because it’s not clear that we have the immediate resolve to defend them - or any long-term strategic plan for the region or even its oil supplies.

I think Obama probably does see this as a chance to “get back” at the West (Dinesh D’Souza’s characterization of him seems very accurate to me) and everybody else in the government, including the most useless and unempowered SOS ever, is really adrift. We actually don’t seem to have any policy anymore.

And Nature abhors a vacuum...

Things could certainly get very rough.

Spot on. This is Obama’s Hilary driven foreign policy. It’s unfolding right now in Syria. Egypt was a cesspool. What will it be now? Libya was stable. Obama is a failure both domestically and internationally.

But, if we just limit it to Obama we miss the train. Obama’s politices are the policies of central planning: That some very, very smart people can run things for the rest of us.

The Ivy League kills again.

I think oil (which is a good thing) and Jerusalem will be the things that drags us to Armageddon.

They’re both too critically important in incredibly different ways.

Eventually the USA will abandon Israel in favor of the Saudis.

The State Department already has, long ago.

And Obama is leading from behind, right up the same alley.

Some of us, namely me, have had enough of this garbage from the Islamofascists. We could have been at least half way to the solution if the US had taken the approach BlueLancer and many others proposed over a decade ago, to whit:

-------------------------------------

200 years from now, I want their children's children's children
to cower and cringe in fear whenever they hear the sounds of jet engines overhead
because their legends tell of fire from the sky.

I want them to hide in dark caves and holes in the earth,
shivering with terror whenever they hear the roar of diesel engines
because the tales of their ancestors talk about metal monsters
crawling over the earth, spitting death and destruction.

I want their mothers to be able to admonish them with
"If you don't behave, the Pale Destroyers will come for you",
and that will be enough to reduce them to quivering obedience.

I want the annihilation to be so complete that their mythology
will tell them of the day of judgment when the stern gods from across the sea
.. the powerful 'Mericans .. destroyed their forefathers' wickedness.

(Original created by BlueLancer ... 13 September 2001)

----------------------------------------------------

The Obama administration has put in place these people who hate us. It was totally inept handling of protests against Ghadaffi. Bush had Ghadaffi come begging to be left alone, but now we have embassies attacked, rockets killing ambassadors, and all of that probably with some weapons provided by us in our military support of the people who killed us.

Obama is a threat to our national security. He is a threat to the women and children of America.

It seems that he, along with three other security officials (his bodyguards, I would assume) were trying to evacuate the staff and had a car or cars pulled up outside ready to go. I saw one photo in a foreign website and you could see a destroyed car outside a flaming building - and what appeared to be a body lying at the door of the building.

I guess we’ll find out more later (unles Obama makes this all disappear from the news). I bet we’ll find out more from the non-US press than our own.

Sometimes it is difficult to know how to respond to attacks by foreign terrorists, or foreign criminals. This was not an attack by the government of Libya.

I'm an old guy and I remember when the Marine barracks in Beirut were attacked killing 241 Marines while Reagan was president. His response was to withdraw the remaining Marines.

in 1972, the US Ambasador to Sudan, Cleo Noel, was assassinated by Black September Organization terrorists. To the best of my knowledge, no action was taken. In 1985, the cutthroat who led that operation was the number two man at the PLO embassy in Harare. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Thx for the reply.

I just saw that Egypt had been warned of an attack on the embassy.

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/159873#.UFCHLKN5mK0

The Egyptian Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper reportedly obtained a copy of a top secret letter addressed to Major General Samy Sedhom, first assistant Interior Minister for Social Security, on September 4, which stated that intelligence services notified the ministry’s national security body that elements from the organization in Egypt and Gaza were planning attacks on the two embassies.

Security sources said the letter was forwarded to Egyptian security officials, informing them to undertake the necessary measures. The sources added that Military Intelligence informed the Interior Ministry one week ago that 22 terrorists in Sinai are planning to attack vital facilities and police checkpoints, according to the Egypt Independent.
