Real estate mogul Donald Trump said Monday that Republicans have "got to get tougher" in order to prevail this November, saying he thought their handling of President Obama was "unbelievable."
The one thing I have to tell the Republicans, theyve got to get tougher," Trump said during an interview with Fox News. "If they dont get tough, theyre not going to win this election.
Trump went on to say that Republicans were "pandering" to the president, and compared their current strategy to that of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in his 2008 presidential campaign.
Well, I think there are a lot of ways of getting tough," Trump said. "I think theyre pandering to Obama. I think theyre being so nice to Obama. Its unbelievable. And John McCain made that mistake. He absolutely made that mistake and you know theyre just afraid to attack this man and he should be attacked.
The reality television star conceded that he thought Democrats might have run a better convention and benefited from not sharing headlines with the landfall of Hurricane Isaac.
Lets face it, I think the Republican convention first of all was hurt by the hurricane, or lack of hurricane, you know the hurricane never really hit heavy in Tampa but I guess they probably had to do what they did," Trump said. "But the fact is that the Democrats gave a great convention, theres no question about it.
Trump added that he felt that the Republicans did not include the right mixture of voices at their party convention mentioning Sarah Palin by name, but also possibly referring to himself. A Trump "surprise event" planned for Monday at the Republican convention was canceled because of the storm.
"I think frankly I would have liked to have seen Sarah Palin speak," Trump said. "I would have liked to have seen some people speak that werent invited to speak and you know I think the Republicans did not have the right speakers. They had a lot of people that people say, who are they, where did they come from? "
When is The Donald going to reveal his big surprise???
And he would be correct.
And lame Mitch McConnell heading the senate is gonna get us where?
Now, that's just dirty. Shame on you. ;)
Yet another Romney endorser abandoning ship. Thanks so much for all your help in the primary, Don.
Whaddyamean? Didn't Romney promise that as soon as the Dem convention was over he'd cover the country with blanket bombing attacks on Obama. Right? Everybody believed it right?
Next.
To more milk toast and milk gravy.
“I think frankly I would have liked to have seen Sarah Palin speak,” Trump said.

I would have liked to have seen her and heard her also...
LOL!
That's because you're a genuine conservative, ma'am. [::tips hat::] ;)
They had a lot of people that people say, who are they, where did they come from? “

They came from Central Casting and cold read their lines right off the teleprompter...
They were there to pretend Willard is a “nice” guy...
But they did have some weird stories...
I guess this means Mitt won’t make the cut for the next season of Celebrity Apprentiice.
At least, many republicans are not complete moonbats like those
democrats who believe Clinton saved the economy vs he is to blame as well for the problems. Never trusted Trump.
It could be that Romney can’t get tought against a Democrat at all. But his people were tough on Santorum. Romney is probably fearful of being tagged “racist” if he gets tough. So inertia prevails. But Akin is getting tough, right?
Don’t know where the idea came from they aren’t tough. Heard lots of Obama criticisms, and the ads are negative. Mitt is not acting like McCain so far.
Rush explained it clear enough. If Republicans lose, the entire party is done.
Shut-up Donald.....you’re obsessing over fabricated polls.
Trump: If Republicans ‘don’t get tough, they’re not going to win this election’
Hes absolutely correct !
This.
There's a technical term for the sad, inevitable tendency -- every four years, like clockwork -- applicable to the side in any presidential contest whose adherents are forced to chant, idiotically: "... donnnnnnnnn't belieeeeeeeeeve the polllllllllllllssssssssss... donnnnnnnnn't belieeeeeeeeeve the polllllllllllllssssssssss...," over and over and over again.
That term; losers.
Four years ago, on this very site, Team McCain's sycophants were mumbling the same insistent, zombie drone, all the way up to Election Day. Just sayin'.
If the GOP blows this one....I am game for a different approach...at least if they continue playing patty cake. Where is our Lee Atwater? Those guys knew how to campaign back then.
In 2010, our candidates ran hard, no holds barred, and a slew of them won in races the experts never expected could be won. We need more of that and less of the vague attacks and vague solutions we have heard the past few weeks.
Playing defense will not win this, Romney must play offense.
I’ll reserve any comment until November 7th....hope you are still here on FR.
Yep. Total denial was rampant. The GOP-E sure can pick 'em.
...and if Trump would have backed off the birth certificate issue and Limbaugh not called Fluke a slut we would be looking at a one term proposition exactly as Obama had predicted. Those two issues did nothing to advance the cause of conservatism, instead it cost the GOP the White House.
I don’t think Donald’s abandoning ship. He’s right...and wants them to LISTEN. I hope they do.
He needs to start pretending his opponent (Obama) is actually a conservative. That's the only thing that ever seems to excite the ol' bloodlust. ;)
Trump is mostly a clown, but he is absolutely right here. This campaign, so far, feels like 2008 all over again. The only difference is the final result will be a somewhat more narrow victory for Hussein. The R/R campaign has to stop worrying what the media will think of them and start ripping Obama/Biden apart over their horrific economic record.
Romney has more than enough ammo to take out the socialist party. He better make it happen.
To be fair, we were winning at this point in the race last cycle. This is when Palin was rolling strong and getting up to 60000 at her rallies. When the financial institutions went caput in mid September and mccain paused his campaign...that’s when the wheels came off.
I can read this memo two ways, one is erickson’s comparisons to other campaigns using pollsters. The other is that romney has done a prety good job over the summer interrupting the news cycles. it is too early to see a panic. I think they needed to create a news story. There is nothing the candidates could do to change this media polling pile on.
I was here before you first signed up, son.
I'll be here until the last ambulance comes.
I agree with the sentiment by Trump.
Somebody needs to tell Mitt, and rather quickly, that Barry Soetoro is only HALF BLACK. Barry’s other half is white. When you criticize Obama’s policies, you are being only half a “racist”. Don’t worry about it. Just deal with it and let’s do this.
Pride commeth before a fall.....don’t get cocky youngun.
The best since Nuremberg.
Trump forcing the birth certificate a year and a half before the election was a great thing. It was clear they were holding on to it to use in this election, but had to use it in 2011 to respond to a fever pitch. It happened so long ago it is a non factor. Fluke was going to be used no matter what. That was the whole purpose of having her ‘testify’ in an empty hearing room . Limbaugh’s comments were just the chosen target, but ultimately it had zero impact. Polling didn’t change. The war on women meme was dropped months ago by all but the nut bags until they could pull it out again a few weeks ago when Akin stepped in it.
neither will have an impact on the November election. Romney will win Missouri. If Obama does not get blamed for the economy, he will be reelected. Everything else is a side issue.
Typical thin skinned wanna-be....just what FR needs.
*yaaaawwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn*
I disagree. If you want to pay for Sandra flucks condoms, go for it. Obama has not proved his eligibility for POTUS, go for it again.
Heard him say it and totally agree. I am doing everything in my being to get this SOB elected. If it fails, I leave the party and register Libertarian. Not an idle threat either, I am a person of my word.
I’m patient, your hysterical(not funny), which one best fits FR and conservative values?
Yea right Sandra Fluke the slut is the decision for the White House....... troll post.
"[My] hysterical" what, precisely? Post like a grown-up, for pity's sake.
Again: #38. I'm long since done playing with you, kiddo.
You go right ahead and keep playing with yourself, however, by all means.
So much for ANYONE could beat Obama. Idiots! Yep and some of those very idiots are on here. They swore it would be flowers and candy with Romney. Spit!
"Severely conservative!" "ELECTABLE!!!OMG11!!" ;)
Just like a socialist...dismissive....nice.
See you in November.
Let Romney surrogates go for blood (They certainly did that in the primary!), Romney can remain blissfully above it. And seem Presidential."
Oh, for the love of.....I am really tired of hearing this one.
A milquetoast wimp who's afraid to come out swinging and needs others to do it for him is not "presidential." He's just weak.
Look at Reagan for your example.
