Report: Syria Dispersed Chemical Weapons Across 20 Sites

Western spy agencies suspect Syria’s government has several hundred tons of chemical weapons and precursor components scattered among as many as 20 sites throughout the country, the Washington Post reported on Thursday.

This, the paper reported, heightens anxieties about the ability to secure the arsenals in the event of a complete breakdown of authority in the war-torn nation, US and Middle Eastern officials say.

Because of the risks posed by the stockpile, US spy agencies have devoted enormous resources to monitoring the facilities through satellite imagery and to developing plans to safeguard the weapons if the crisis worsens, current and former US officials said.

Obviously an important issue, but you have to wonder what we're overlooking in the region and elsewhere with the assets concentrated here.

We've known about it essentially the whole time, and the Syrian chemical weapons program and stockpile has been widely discussed in the media and in academia for at least 20 years.

You'd have to have been living under a rock not to have been aware of it.

Just to set the record straight - Bush publically announced that he was mistaken - there were no WMD in Iraq. Rice insisted he announce that to the public (she beleived that was the truth), at which point the public hated Bush’s guts for “lying” to them in an act of war. That is what will go down in history. (Bush also also permitted Dems to control and manipulate the 911 commission and blame Bush for the attack on the World Trade Center. Bush did not even object to the documents in Berger’s pants.)

I don’t know where stupid Rove was when all this was going down, but it made Republicans into the villianous national punching bag and the anti-war radicals “heros” and it made Muslim aggresssors into victims in a lot of people’s minds. It led to the election of Muslim commie who has totally wrecked this country.

I hope I don’t sound bitter. :)
