Mitt Romney officially clinched the GOP presidential nomination on Tuesday to move a step closer in his five-year quest for the White House.
To roaring cheers at the Republican National Convention in the packed Tampa Bay Times Forum, the delegation from New Jersey put Romney above the 1,144-delegate threshold, ensuring he will be the GOP challenger against President Barack Obama in November.
Earlier, the 2,200-plus convention delegates approved a conservative platform that called for less government, opposed same-sex marriage and endorsed a "human life amendment" to ban abortion with no specific exceptions for cases of rape, incest or when the mother's life is threatened.
Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, will be formally nominated on Thursday, and Romney's acceptance speech that night will conclude the convention that had its agenda delayed by Hurricane Isaac.
With the storm churning toward landfall in Louisiana, Republican officials appeared determined to stick to a tightened three-day schedule that kicked into full gear on Tuesday with official business and speeches accusing Obama of failed leadership and undermining the American dream...

There’s no way I could stomach sitting through the rest of that convention. I’d have to walk out in protest. It’s become an insult to any self respecting American.
How so? I thought they came to an agreement on the rules.
Why is it I have to watch CNN for the RNC convention. The anchor chick is pretty hot though. I think she likes me.
Approved a conservative platform?
“How so? I thought they came to an agreement on the rules.”
I thought the “agreement” was to screw the Tea Party members along with like-minded conservatives.
Judging from your posting history, you’ve been sitting on your ass the whole time.
I’m hoping that Mitt Romney gets struck down by God after he wins the election, letting Paul Ryan become President. That’s the best case scenario for conservatives, the best case scenario for America, and the best case scenario for freedom.
Exactly what are you trying to say Mr. rudeboy? What kind of philosophical insights have you concluded by my rather sporadic posting? You might actually make a point rather than tossing out insults.
NJ puts him over the top. Christie is the headline speaker. I think there is a message there that RINOmney wants lots of liberals in NJ to support him - or to be more specific, this is an appeal to RINOmney’s base: liberals.
I’m saying that you are likely a troll. Got a problem?
Then evidently you have not taken a very close look at my posts. I am not a troll. You might disagree with me but that does not make me a troll.
Paultard then, maybe.
Seriously rudeboy, get a life. Just because I am not a Romneybot does not make me a Paultard. Some of us are actually thinking of long term consequences of the actions we take today and Romney will not solve our problems and if you have a problem with that then take it to the GOP elite.
Its best to not argue with jello.
LOL
u mad?
This means he can begin spending money in a big way.
There’s going to be a bunch of people drinking a big glass of reality, now that the loony dream of imposing a minority’s will on the majority finally has its head carried out on a pole. We’ve all seen this activity for months — oh, there’s going to be a convention fight, voting irregularities mean throwing out all results, other long hits on the bong — and it’s also been clear for months that it wasn’t going to happen that way.
During the primaries the most inutterable stupidities were uttered — that (fill in the blank, literally every last candidate except Romney himself) was “a stalking horse for Romney”. Everyone in all directions? RINOs. NeoCons. Pro-polymagy flip-flopping abortionist pornographers. There have been dozens or maybe hundreds of anti-LDS crap topics.
I haven’t yet voted for Romney.
In November I will, and will be happy to do it.
Zero has to go, because it’s quite literally him or us.
And “him or us” isn’t “lesser of two evils”. He has to go. Period.
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
Well good luck.
Excellent post!
Well said. It’s time to pick a side. You’re either for attempting to at least slow down the train before it wrecks, or actively aid the guy who’s going to jam the accelerator all the way to the floor.
There are no other choices. Anyone sitting out this election claiming ideological purity is actively aiding Obama. That’s the fact.
That’s pretty harsh there, Hoss. Can you give the man a year or 18 months in office to see what he’ll do? I hope he surprises us. Dick Nixon, Gerald Ford and the Bushes weren’t exactly Reagan/Goldwater conservatives, now were they? He HAS to be better than Obama, right?
I will vote for anyone to get the COMMUNIST OUT.
Even Charlie Sheen.
If the communist is not voted out, it will not be America anymore. It will be game on, the whole schmear will come apart at the seams. No predictions as to what that looks like. Not pretty I’m sure. Probably something like a cross between Nazi Germany and Mexico, throw in a little Haiti for variety.
11 out of 12 planks in the platform were written by Freedom Works. It the most Conservative platform in GOP history
But I know, don’t bother the Democrat propaganda bots around here with the inconvenient facts. They have their Obama campaign written talking points and they are clinging to them
Well, in November, I will also be voting for Romney, but, unlike you, I am not happy to do so.
But I will vote for him because, yes, Obama must go. Our country cannot survive another term of the Soros Administration.

To all the Paulsheviks and assorted ilk, no one here likes Romney all that much. But the choice is someone with a liberal record who we might possibly hold accountable with a conservative Congress, and someone who doesn’t even respect the basic separation of powers. To the point of creating a national secret police force that will put your neck under the boot and a bullet to the back of your head, not to mention a civil war.
This is not Bob Dole v. Bill Clinton. The stakes are much much higher.
Well aren't you special!
Only a moron would think actively campaign against his political allies on behalf of a guy totally opposed to their agenda is “smart politics”.
You “Conservatives for Obama” have to be the most politically ignorant movement in US history
Actually, he sought the Prophets permission in 2005 (it was granted).
If you object to being treated like an idiot, quit acting like one.

I hope he surprises us too, and you’re absolutely right that he’ll be better than The Kenyan under any circumstances. I encourage everyone to vote for him for that reason alone. However, his attempts to out-Chappaquiddick Mr. Chappaquiddick and his complete lack of resistance to socialized medicine in Massachusetts doesn’t leave me with much excitement. Romney’s allegiance is in question, Ryan’s isn’t.
I want to thank you for continuing to be a reactionary.
I said: Approved a conservative platform?
And yet you chose not present information, you chose to call me an Obama propagandist.
You do not fail to surprise.
Romney sold out to Obama and One World Government as did the rest of the sleaze.
kiss kiss
There is no point in arguing with jello.
You keep right on fighting conservatism with the rest of the GOPe and calling it righteous.
Ta da
They did; but it is open so that Romney and his ilk can make the changes without our permission.
My viewpoint isn’t unusual at all. Almost everyone in my community endorses a Ryan presidency. They see a Romney victory as merely a precursor to the ideal, rather than the ideal.
Much as I hate having the (only realistic) choice being between these two, “O Gotta Go!”
And him or us isnt lesser of two evils. He has to go. Period.
I don't like Romney and I particularly dislike Romniacs.
But I agree with you SunkenCiv. The communist has to be driven from office. We can worry about fighting Romney the day after the inauguration and for the next four years after that. I may wind up third party before the year is out, but that comes after January.
Leaving O in office isn't an option.
Oh, I don’t disagree with you on Mitt Romney, but compared to Barack Obama, almost anyone looks good.
Yup, the Ron Paul kooks can go away now. Paul got about 10% of the primary vote and he got about 10% of the delegates. That is about how it should have gone. The Paultards caused some trouble at a few of the state conventions, but the local, state and national Republicans are ready for these people now. It's over for Paul in the GOP. Paul and his supporters were never going to vote for the eventual GOP nominee (probably the majority will vote for Obama like they did last time), and there is no reason the party should take paulbots seriously. Go to any Paul forum and you can see how much they hate the GOP platform - specifically things like the pro-life planks, the support for Israel, etc.
So any Paulbots reading this. Welcome to reality. None of your silly talk panned out. Go away. The Republican party may have reacted slowly, but your stunts at the local/state level will be harder to pull off next time around. Then again, it really doesn't matter - your guy is too old to run again. Please go make a nuisance of yourself in the Democrat party. Heck, I'd be rooting for you if you did - a libertarian takeover of the Democrat party would be a very good thing.
In November I will, and will be happy to do it.
Yup, same. Romney/Ryan or Obama/Biden. That is the choice. Those are the options. Romney/Ryan is vastly superior to Obama/Biden.
Thanks cc, that means a lot!
Thanks!

Link?
I am through with the GOP if they don’t get their act together.
I will vote for Romney if for no other reason than four more years of Obama damage may be too great for the country to bear.
If Romney manages to win but then does not govern as a conservative, however, I will either work to defeat him in the primaries or will look to embrace a serious third party alternative (if one exists). For now though, the number one issue is beating Hussein Obama.
In order to pull that off, we are all going to need to put aside our differences one more time and pull together so we can send the Kenyan back home to Chicago where he can do no more damage to our beloved country.
I look at it this way: If the election this year were between Hubert Humphrey and Adolf Hitler, which way would you vote?
