AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday night it will strip Lance Armstrong of his unprecedented seven Tour de France titles after he declared he was finished fighting the drug charges that threaten his legacy as one of the greatest cyclists of all time.

Travis Tygart, USADA's chief executive, said Armstrong would also be hit with a lifetime ban on Friday.

Guilty because he stopped fighting the charges.

I guess that makes sense to some here.

I hope Zimmerman doesn’t stop fighting his charges.

So you endorse a witch hunt based upon jealousy and nothing more? Sorry, but the USADA should put up or shut up. He never failed a drug test and they’ve produced nothing to prove otherwise.

What a disappointment. If you’re innocent, you fight. Who’s going to care about his foundation now that he’s cast himself as a quitter...?

The USADA was prepared to "put up." They brought the charges, asserted they had the evidence, and were prepared to go to an adversarial hearing before a panel of independent arbitrators to put on their evidence. Armstrong is the one who declined to defend himself.

As Robert Shaw said to Paul Newman in The Sting: "You're not only a cheat. You're a gutless cheat as well."

USADA also said it had 10 former Armstrong teammates ready to testify against him. . . . [T]he agency has refused to say who they are or specifically what they would say.

It's hard to prepare cross-examination and rebuttal experts when the prosecution won't disclose their evidence and witnesses. He's been fighting these allegations since 1999 and has endured a 2-year federal investigation.

The situation makes me think of endlessly battling the IRS or some other behemoth federal agency -- they'll keep hounding you with unlimited resources until you crack. If he had persisted and the USADA didn't succeed in their quest this time, I don't believe for a second they wouldn't turn around and try again. And again. And again.

This is more akin to not answering the tenth complaint arising from the same set of facts. I can't even figure out what axe the USADA has to grind by pursuing this issue into perpetuity.

The man has been tested far more than any other athlete in history and has never been found to have used a banned substance. His testing was consistant with all the other testing done during his reign. He never failed a test. Why would they now continue with this stupid attack on him? He is out of racing, he has never been proven to have used illegal substances, and yet the whimpering cries of jealousy from his former teammates and foes now hold more weight than true objective tests held during his 7 years of conquest.

Hey, how else are these people going to keep the gravy rolling in if they don’t go after people like Armstrong forever? Have to justify their existence somehow.

Having helped raise more than 300 million dollars in cancer research. Helped raise interest in a sport that before was mostly off the charts in America.

What have you done lately? What does that make you?

You are welcomed to your opinion(s) regardless how moronic they may be, but at least have a brain to spell correctly that which you accuse someone of being.

A major key? Like the NY Yankees, he had the best team money could buy. So when you are riding a 2400 mile race and you have the right team mate for the right circumstance to give you an advantage to place in the top 10 every day (and some times even win a day), your probability of winning the whole 2400 mile race goes up.

If he never tested positive, how do they have proof?

Have followed and partissipated in endurance sport for more than sixty years, and I have been pretty sure that Armstrong used some type of tetesteron doping in the late 1990s and he tested positive in two tests in 2009 and 2010, but he managed to bribe some officials, donating over 100 000 $ and they hid the tests and didn’t release the resaults, but as always, somebody found out, in this case, a french news paper, anyway, lots of info on this out there
