Yes. You can be the BEST conservative in the world, but if you’re an idiot, you’re not helping your cause in any form or fashion. Simply believing in conservative principles is NEVER enough, you need to be able to intelligently and eloquently defend those principles.
Coming out and saying “I love God, I love this country, I hate abortion, I hate taxes and I love the military” shouldn’t be enough to qualify a conservative for office.

We are talking about a sitting congressman impacting the most critical election in the last 100 years.

No I am not Claire. His suggestion that a womans body would magically deal with the zygote, should fertilization occur, he says was medically in error. And it is a wrong concept.
If you think back to the case Roe v.Wade the alledged victim of rape, at a later date, said she made it up. But, there was a pregnancy. Was that a "legitimate" rape. That word is inartful and mispoken. Who among us has not misspoken? This frenzy around a misspoken word is not unlike the "potato" remark of Dan Quayle. It turned out that there were two proper ways to spell the word,....but not until political correctness took its toll.
Now all of the gunslingers are shooting at Akins feet, saying, "Dance Cowboy, Dance". Well, we shall see.
Maybe Cheney can offer to go “hunting” with him.
He won the primary. He played by the rules. He said something inartful. He gets to ‘play the game’.

Don't vote for him if you feel that way. Perhaps McCaskel is your senator to choose. But that has nothing to do with the liberal seizure of the word 'legitimate' and run with it. That is their word...like choice, investment (instead of taxation).
Sadly being crazy isn't a disqualification for office. Akin would still be on the ballot.
My usual rule of thumb is that positions based mostly or entirely on principle are unconvincing, because nobody is that principled.

Hey, you know what,..you are right. Better yet why don’t we just drop all differentiation between the liberal and conservative. We will let the liberals define what is acceptible and right and we will go with that. Yes, I am sure that is the answer to our differences. From listening to him, the guy is clearly in shock and in denial.
I think he just find it impossible to believe that in the span of 30 secs, he destroyed entire political career. He doesn’t want to believe it, he doesn’t think it should happen, he doesn’t believe it *can* happen.
Unfortunately, it can happen, and it did happen. By the time he comes to grips with it, which will be when he’s down 15 points in the polls sometimes in late September. It will be too late.
Akin is staying in because of principle? Doesn’t he realize that principles and politics don’t mix?

Many Republicans and conservatives don't understand the Democrats. Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid do all the complex thinking for the hive mind. The rank & file Democrats are left with that which they understand - their PeePees and their Cooters. As this is what they think about most of their day (since the important thoughts are being taken care by Big Brain Obama), they're self-anointed experts on the subject.

If you don't believe me, go read the comments on nearly any other site. It's all smugness about knowing more about their ladyparts than this old fossil Akin.
You know, this really scares me. We only see a few Congressmen and women as the faces of the Republican party. If Akin is the type of man or woman they have to keep under wraps except for a few appearances every two years before the election, things are much worse than I thought they could ever be.

In all truth the man is poorly informed and way out of date. One could excuse poor choice of “legitimate” (by which meant legally established as statutory rape), but the “automatic” rejection of impregnation is just not established science. The problem is not the BASE he has— it’s the loss of potential fiscal conservatives social liberals votes, who will have a problem with this lack of understanding .

I really don’t think that any conservative women or rino women for that matter will not vote or vote for Obama just because of this man’s big mouth though.
