Political theater to delegitimize the armed citizen. A sacrifice to the gods of political correctness.

Democrats and the far left love destroying items of value. Cash-for-clunkers and these gun turn-ins reflect the same bizarre Luddite view of productivity.

Must be some kind of national effort this month.

One of the very few times I’ve ever actually yelled at my TV occurred a good number of years ago during one of the early buy-backs in DC.

Local news crew was covering the event live. They start interviewing this older lady who proceeds to tell them that she’s turning in her “Pappy’s” gun from his days as a Prohibition gangster. She then opens up the worn-looking box holding the gun to reveal ...

A vintage Thompson submachine gun. In mint condition. With three drum magazines.

Certainly worth more than the ~$100 she was going to get by turning it in. A LOT more. And by law/regulation the thing was required to be melted down.

“Alas, it was too late because the man with the pearl-handled revolver proceeded to turn over the firearm Saturday afternoon in exchange for a $75 Fred Meyer gift card. He chose that route rather than sell the gun for more money to West or any of a half-dozen men standing on a sidewalk between North Broadway Street and a parking lot north of Memorial Coliseum”

Some not very smart ill informed people who would down doubleing their money.

Let’s see, these Liberals are in favor of assisted suicide and “the right to die”, but use as their main argument against guns is that they are used for suicide so have to be taken away from ordinary citizens.

The gods of political correctness are being ground to dust by the gods of the copybook headings.

Transfer of guns out of the law abiding population. Bad plan.

The moron libs on that Oregon Live site are still arguing the meaning of the 2nd Amendment. Most of them don’t even know that SCOTUS ruled on that a couple years ago.

Central Precinct Sgt. Tim Sessions said the police did not have a problem with the buyers on the sidewalk. "They have a right to buy guns," Sessions said. "That's in the Constitution. So that doesn't bother me a bit." Sessions dismissed the possibility that the sidewalk buyers would then sell to "undesirables. That's not the case. These people know what they're doing, They know the laws. They know they'd lose that right if they did sell to the undesirables." Equally unlikely, said Sessions, who assisted the foundation with its guns buyback for nine years, is the notion that gang members would be among those turning in guns. Perhaps it's a result of being exposed to a disproportionate number of anti-gun cops, but I found the sentiments expressed by this officer to be refreshing and heartening. Good on him. :)

They detest us, yet WE are the haters! From a site I visited with details on the story, a lib talking to himself and my reply.

Alan, why do you argue with the haters?
Because you cannot help yourself is not a good excuse.
You see, Alan, they will learn their own lessons, on their own time.
You’re right, Alan, best to serve the world by sticking to positive news and calling out the filth when I see it.
Correct, Alan, but not becoming it at the same time.
Good point!

To which haters are you referring? To those who hate the direction in which our soon-to-be-former-republic-if-we’re-not vigilant is being taken by acolytes of Marx, Cloward/Piven and Soros? Those who hate the fact that there are many who would refuse to execute the guilty for horrendous crimes but insist that the innocent may be slaughtered for the “crime” of being inconvenient? Those who hate having hard-earned money taken from their pockets and “redistributed” to others who have done nothing to earn it, and who will do nothing to improve their own lot in life except vote “D” for more free stuff? Maybe those who hate the fact that much of our media distorts or refuses to cover stories that will reflect badly on a particular political party or upon a protected demographic, truth be damned?
