WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's re-election campaign said on Friday that if Mitt Romney releases five years of his tax returns, it would not press the Republican presidential challenger to release more - a proposal quickly rejected by Romney's campaign.
Democrats have criticized Romney for not providing more than two years of tax information and questioned whether the millionaire former private equity executive has something to hide about his wealth.
Romney said on Thursday he had paid at least a 13 percent tax rate for the last 10 years, but did not release tax documents. The former Massachusetts governor called Democrats' focus on his taxes a distraction from the issues of jobs and the economy.
"Governor Romney apparently fears that the more he offers, the more our campaign will demand that he provide," Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in a letter to Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades.
"So I am prepared to provide assurances on just that point," Messina wrote, saying if Romney releases taxes from 2007 through 2012, "I commit in turn that we will not criticize him for not releasing more - neither in ads nor in other public communications or commentary for the rest of the campaign."

I really don’t understand how Romney and the people that run his campaign can be this STUPID.
It’s perfectly simple.
You release tax returns with anything you want on them. Across the first page of each return you print in big bold letters:
CERTIFICATE OF LIVE TAX RETURN
Then answer no questions whatsoever about what it means.
To: pabianice
Yeah, the Obama people apparently think that they have a winning idea here, badgering Romney for his tax returns. Its time to force the hand of the most secretive president in history. We know much more about Romney than we know about Obama, and he has been president for over three years. Time to start rattling some of the skeletons in Obama’s closet. If for no other reason but to get them to shut up in their attempt to press class warfare.

Agreed. When Obama shows all his hidden materials, Romney will show his tax returns. And please, “assurances” from Jim Messina? Would anyone trust that liver-lips moron?

I wouldn't reject it. I would ignore it.

Obama thinks he is king, he needs a reminder that he is not. No more tax returns from Mitt, or his campaign, ever. Just say no. The issue of the day is the economy of the WHOLE nation and while the extreme personal attacks are to be expected from the commies, they shouldn’t be tolerated.

Sounds good but the problem with that solution is that the same press who yawned at the obvious fake birth certificate would spend the next two months tearing Romney apart for being dishonest. Romney is doing exactly what he should. He knows that Obama’s campaign is aware that he paid taxes - what they are looking for are the details of how much money he makes and where that money comes from. Obama’s minions can’t find any new dirt on Romney and they are looking for a treasure trove of information to feed to the liberal base - who have been somehow convinced by Obama that those who have wealth have, somehow, gotten it by stealing from the rest of us. Romney has to remain firm and not let the media push him into giving them something to sink their talons into.

Wrong. Romney should only consider releasing any further tax records AFTER Obama releases all the documents relating to F & F, Solyndra and the communications involving the illegal move by Treasury and the O admin to screw over the non-union Delphi workers on their pensions.
Put the pressure back on Obama as running the MOST CORRUPT administration in our nation’s history.

“press who yawned at the obvious fake birth certificate would spend the next two months tearing Romney apart for being dishonest”
And my ads for the next two months would be the two documents side by side with simple captions beginning with, “Huh?” followed by “How come one is OK” and then ending with, “One of these is a Constitutional Requirement”
Even the dumbest sheeple will eventually get the message if you make it simple enough.

Romney should ignore each and every request by the Øbama regime and just concentrate on three issues:
*** Reviving the economy
*** Killing Øbamacare
*** Energy independence (drill here, drill now)

Here is the bottom line:
The Obama administration knows Romney has paid his taxes every year. The Obama administration knows exactly how much Romney has claimed every year and has alreadly delved into the legality of every return Romney has ever filed. How do we know this? Because the IRS is a government agency that answers to the White House these days. Obama can see the records of any citizen. His campaign already knows everything there is to know about Romney’s taxes and income.
What the President cannot do is legally release that information to the public to use against Romney in a campaign of class envy, which is his goal. He cannot use Romney’s tax information to demonize his wealth without Romney’s permission. Romney knows this and is not co-operating. He doesn’t need to.
Had Harry Reid received a phone call from someone claiming that Romney did not pay taxes the Obama administration would have checked that claim with IRS records that very day. If they suspect fraud of any kind, they do not need the taxpayer’s permission to check!
The IRS does not need Romney’s permission to check for fraud. They did that when Romney first announced his candidacy.
That’s the truth. It’s what Romney and Ryan need to say every time the issue comes up, because it will disappear quickly when they do.

If only the media were as interested in Zero’s college records as they are about getting more tidbits from Romney’s tax returns that they could then spin into something “controversial”.

Romney needs to ask about the ownership and property taxes on the Obama’s family home that they have never visited in 4 years. Obama’s name doesn’t show up on the deed. The ones on the deed are the woman professor who lives in the guest house, an attorney, and a trust. While, Barry might be involved with the trust (along with Jarrett, Soros, Rezko, Ayers, or who???), you can be sure it’s some sort of a hedge. It was the lawyer, not the Obamas, who paid the taxes.

Obama Where are the records?
We know where Obama spent some of his adult years and only some.
- We are told that Barack Hussien Obama Sr. is our current president's father and that his father was never a United States Citizen. Therefore, our current POTUS is not eligible to be POTUS. Obama needs to recant his claim that BHO Sr. is his father and prove that his real father was a US citizen when the current POTUS was born.
- We are told that he attended Columbia, Occidental and Harvard. Did he? Where are the records?
- We are told that he is a Constitutional Professor. Is he really? Where are the records?
- We are told that he is or was a lawyer. Was he really? Where are the records?
- Why is the Main Stream Media not investigating or even taking a casual look into these obvious cover-ups?
My opinion, the Main stream Media is comprised of a bunch of Left leaning Liberals that have contempt for the United States of America and they will do anything to cover for their socialist cause.

Just wait.
I’ll bet that around Nov. 1st a ‘rumor’ will be floated that Romney was involved in some sex scandal. He had a lover, maybe a man.
Something really scurrilous.
That would be classic Zer0 tactic.
