Young illegal immigrants will be eligible for California driver's licenses

California will issue driver's licenses to hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants once the Obama administration grants them work permits, the state Department of Motor Vehicles says.

The state's decision is the opposite from Arizona's, where Republican Gov. Jan Brewer on Wednesday afternoon signed an executive order outlawing driver's licenses for anyone who benefits from the new federal deportation relief.

The starkly different responses from neighboring states show that the benefits of the new federal directive could vary depending on where young immigrants live.

The Obama administration left it up to the states to decide if they will issue driver's licenses and other state services to the young people brought to the country illegally as children but now eligible for temporary work permits.

Arizona was the first to say no, and California -- home to more than 400,000 young immigrants expected to qualify -- the first to say yes.

A 1993 California law banning driver's licenses for illegal immigrants remains in place, but the DMV will treat as "temporary legal residents" anyone who qualifies for the federal deportation relief program, meaning the state ban no longer applies to them, DMV spokesman Mike Marando said Wednesday.

"California law is not changing. California is and remains a 'legal presence' state, however those applicants approved by (the U.S. Department of Homeland Security) will become temporary legal residents," Marando said.

One of my family members was comatose thanks to an illegal alien crashing into his car in the middle of the night in San Diego. I really hope a family member of a CA Lib politician and proponent of this suffers the same demise. He or she will then see how some of us little people feel when it comes to manslaughter by some a-hole that isn’t a US Citizen..

Here's your answer on how illegals can self-deport ~ should that ever be a question.

They fill their tanks and drive their own cars South to their own country.

So, a 2 year deportation reprieve will earn an illegal a 5 year drivers license?

Obviously, the Spirit of the Law is dead.

I knew an illegal who went to the California DMV to get a drivers license. He did not have a social security number. The clerk at the DMV coached him and told him to go to the Social Security Administration office and get a Social Security card with a number and the words “Not for Employment Purposes” on it. The illegal went back to DMV office and got his drivers license. Subsequently he was arrested for drunk driving, lost his license, and was deported. I would not be suprised if he was registered to vote by the SEIU member at the DMV office. Maybe his absentee ballots are still mailed to the SEIU.

The “Spirit of the Law” has been unequally applied for a long time. One set of laws for celebrities and the connected, one set for the peons.

Start breaking some yourself. Civil Disobedience. Drive in the HOV lane. Litter in traffic jams. Send mail postage due. Break the system. Leave unattended packages. Spill white powder. Disrupt Federal offices. Don’t shun pollsters, lie to them. Corrupt data wherever you can.

Why bother maintaining the pretense of a border between San Diego and TJ?

Pretty soon we’ll need to build an extension to the (not yet built) Mexican border fence. It will be an Arizona-Kalifornia border fence.

They already do vote in the elections here. In June when I voted in the primarys here there was a woman in front of me newly registered as a matter of fact she had paper work with her but she kept asking the elections official if she wanted her id and the official said NO I don’t need it. They never ask for id here ever and even if you try to show it they won’t and don’t take it.

Absolutely no surprise whatsoever that a foreign national would grant federal deportation relief to foreign nationals. Especially one who has been living illegally in this country for over 30 years on an expired student visa.
