Chris Rock ignited fury across the Internet when he accurately tweeted that though Americans celebrate Independence Day on July 4, slaves, in fact, were not free in 1776.
Now, in an interview with the men's magazine Details, Rock speaks out about racism in America, Trayvon Martin and gun control.
Asked if it was too soon for comedians to make jokes regarding the death of Trayvon Martin, he explained that there is never a right time to laugh about that situation.
"There's no joke there, unfortunately. It's sad. When you get old, it's like, 'Damn it, I've seen this.' I'm from Bed-Stuy. I marched for Yusuf Hawkins [a black teenager killed by whites in Brooklyn in 1989], you know? I don't totally agree with Bill Cosby. He said it wasn't racial, it's a gun issue. Well, it's a gun-racial issue. You know what makes you approach a 6-foot-3 black guy in the middle of the night? A gun. Paul Blart's not supposed to have a gun."
Chris Rock, now 50, also discussed his relationship with the first black president.
"I mean, if I want to talk to him, I can call him. Dude, being the first black anything sucks. But the country was in shambles, and he's cleaning it up. If you properly clean a room, it gets dirtier before it gets cleaner. Ever come back to your hotel room before the maids are finished? My God! Republicans are complaining. Romney's complaining. But Romney's rich. He doesn't know s**t about cleaning."
Chris Rock really rubbed some people the wrong way when he stated that even though Americans gained their freedom from Great Britain, the slaves were not freed.
He tweeted on the Fourth of July, "Happy white peoples independence day the slaves weren't free but I'm sure they enjoyed fireworks."
Rock stood by his remarks and cited his own experience.
"I was [bused] to a school in Gerritsen Beach in Brooklyn in 1972. I was one of the first black kids in the history of the school. There were parents with signs: NIGGER GO HOME. For all intents and purposes, the United States had been practicing apartheid until '68. I was spit on every day. I had water balloons with piss thrown at me. I was f***ing Carrie."

They call it “dissed”, and I think the M.O. these days is to do something (eg, throwing trash on the ground or being inappropriately loud) that will elicit a response from a white person, claim to be “dissed”, then beat the crap out of them.
While I doubt he was spit on every day, and who knows about the water balloons (my memories from when I was 6 years old, which is how old Chris Rock was in 1972, are a bit sketchy and a couple of events could have seemed like many more), if true these would have been quite traumatic for a small child. I have to wonder about all of the adults involved in decisions that would put little children into this situation. All of them.
And clearly, it did affect him. Chris Rock comes across as a bitter bitter man. He has come a long way in one of the few countries where he could have done so. And still, all I ever hear him do is complain. I won’t feel sorry for him tho. He’s not a little 6 year old. It’s time for him to move on.

You owe a lot to Bill Cosby because he (along with George Jefferson) helped change White Americans attitudes towards racism with their tv shows. His initial comedy routines were funny and politically incorrect. Then something happened (perhaps the series of movie bombs) and he turned into just another Leftie ranting and raving and joking about conservatives but refusing to take on liberals. Its almost as sad as George Carlin’s decline from a genuinely funny and insightful comedian to a bitter Leftie whose act consisted of swearing at the Right.

The witnesses said that Trey was straddling Zim and beating him. The physical evidence sides with Zims statements.
The police were talking with Zim when he was following Trey. He was asked if he were following Trey and he said “yes” to which the dispatch said “we don’t need you to do that” and Zim said “OK” at which time he started back to his car. That is when Trey came up behind him and confronted him.

The witness statements that zimmerman was getting his ass kicked only show that he can't defend himself, it says nothing about who started things.
This is what is known...
Zimmerman, an armed adult, followed Martin, first in his car and then on foot.
Martin, an un-armed teenager ran away from the stranger who got out of his car and followed him.
Zimmerman has at least two recorded violent incidents in his past.
They fought. Zimmerman was getting his ass kicked and killed Martin.
Anything else you want to throw around as truth or fact is not supported by anything.
Considering the fact that Zimmerman told the guy on the phone that he was following (an agressive act) and that he told the guy on the phone that Martin ran (an act of avoidance) your statement that...

Trey told his girl friend on the phone that he lost the guy. So if he lost Zimmerman why did he go back to beat him? Why didn’t Martin go to his dad’s GF house where he would have been safe and still alive?
We’ll see what comes out of the trial. I don’t know all the answers but it’s clear you don’t even believe much of what has been confirmed in reports and statements from witnesses and the police.

Well, the way this thing works is this...you post something as fact then it is up to you to provide proof.

His fanclub wants to not only rationalize Zimmerman’s actions, but justify them. They want Zimmerman to become a martyr in the political play they have running in their minds. Wrong play guys, wrong protagonist. Guilt or lack of same aside; Zimmerman was a hot mess who should not have been acting in any position of trust. And with a sidearm? You must be kidding.
Zimmerman was being treated for ADHD, which is a mental health issue because people with ADHD have brains that are wired differently–from birth. I really do believe that he was not operating on all cylinders; that he was suffering from a condition that robbed him of his higher mental processes. That equals a result: “No way Zimmerman should have been in possession of a butter knife, never mind a sidearm.”
I look at the case in question, then I look at the drugs in question, Adderall and Temazepam. Both of these drugs are very serious meds. They speak to a process/treatment program that has gone very deep, dark and dirty. These are not front line meds.
I’ll take on the Temazepam first. It is a very heavy duty drug. We are way, way past the warm milk stage of treating insomnia. Read the damn indications. Read the damn warnings! This is not kids stuff. This is damn near elephant tranquilizer. Yes, it can help to restore normal sleep cycles, it is safe and effective for that indication. But it is also a class two drug in the same family as Valium: highly habit forming.
Adderall is not just one amphetamine but two. And let’s look at all the warnings. OH MY GOD!! That is some serious ADHD med we have a hold of. And hey, let’s look at the Temazepam again; could the Aderall be causing or a least contributing to the insomnia? Good chance there, as Adderall is two freaking amphetamines combined in one drug! Speed plus speed might very well equal some very restless nights.
So I ask myself “where was this man’s head at on the night in question?”
I look at the drugs and nothing but the drugs. He is being treated for ADHD, what do I know about that? I’ll break it down very simply: your mind is high powered military jet engine roaring along at a furious clip. That mind is strapped to a body that is basically a tractor with a crappy transmission. Fun times ensue. Impulse control, we don’t need no impulse control. Since ADHD rides a spectrum like autism, your results may vary. But again, looking at the meds, Zimmerman was on the low functioning scale of people with ADHD. You don’t treat with two types of amphetamines when one will do.
So, where was Zimmerman’s impulse control on the night in question? Um, not looking good for the home team there, he ignored dispatch, made a snap judgment to pursue that was highly questionable. Where is the man’s head at?
He is not getting quality sleep. He is treating insomnia with a very serious drug. Lack of quality sleep screws up judgement. He ignored dispatch. Where is this man’s head at??
