Mitt Romney announcing VP pick at the USS Wisconsin (home state of Paul Ryan)
Washington Examiner ^ | 10 August 2012 | Joel Gehrke

Posted on 08/10/2012 8:54:25 PM PDT by moonshot925

“Romney will announce his choice for Vice President in Norfolk, Virginia at 8:45am EST,” Romney campaign spokesman Lenny Alcivar told reporters in an email this evening.

The announcement is being made at the USS Wisconsin. It’s still unclear whom he will choose, but the odds that it is Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., seemed to increase when National Review’s Robert Costa noted that a charter plane flew from Boston to Ryan’s hometown of Janesville, Wis., today.

“Sounds like hes the unRomney...
Hes everything Romney is not...
Hes a proven Conservative”

Yes, he’s a threat to Romney so Romney gets him and his austere budget plans out of the House and sticks him in the VP office never to be heard from again. Romney gets rid of Ryan and also gets conservative votes because he chose him It’s a win win for Romney and we lose Ryan trying to save the country from disaster.

"His selection would make Medicare and the House budget the issue, not the economy." -- From the WSJ article posted in another thread.

That's what I was talking about.

Have a good weekend.

So what? They play that card every election! We finally have someone who can articulate our position on how to fix it!

The Adults are in the House. The serious conversations can begin. Remember, Alice Rivlen Slick's Budget gal, eons ago she liked what Paul is doing. This kinda puts Slick back on his heels credibility wise as they plan on using him more..

That is a bunch of crap. Even those on transfer payments, the largest being Social Security, KNOW that the program is unsustainable. They have children and grandchildren too.

Ryan is incredibly articulate and easily explains how and why we need to change entitlements. He also gives credible and fairly pain free ways of doing so.

Is there a candidate they wouldn’t demonize?

Of course they would (and will) because they are worthless liars. I didn't mean Ryan was a bad choice on that account. He is an outstanding choice based on competence, intelligence, character, and appearance. He will make mincemeat of blowhard Biteme. If it's an accurate report, I wonder why it was leaked early?

Rommey is much more likely to pull a Reagan than O’Bummer,

Probably won’t, but O’Bummer certainly won’t!

Can someone please summarize what’s really, really bad about Ryan?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I like him a lot. However, here are some downsides:

1) The ticket will be defined by the media and by Democrats as two, slick-haired, tight-collared, ultra-white rich Northern males who want to exploit blacks, Hispanics, women, elderly, and the young by giving tax cuts to the rich white Northern males like themselves. In short, a Romney-Ryan ticket takes away none of the Left’s main talking points, and, in fact only enhances them.

2) We have to win Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia if we are to oust Obama. I don’t know if Ryan helps in any of those states. He may, however, as others have correctly noted, bring Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and possibly Pennsylvania into play, but that is rolling the dice by spreading our side pretty thin in more states instead of focusing on fewer key ones. Think of the electoral vote instead of the popular vote.

3) He can be painted, unfairly or not, as a Congressional leader at a time when Congressional popularity is extremely low. Guilt by association.

Disagree. That is a surrender mentality. I am in Maryland, so I am in a very similar situation, but I consider myself an operative behind enemy lines. People in blue states value free stuff over freedom. Maryland went for Reagan in 1980 and we elected Republican Bob Ehrlich as Governor 2002 despite long odds. There are other elections down ticket... and yet mention jury duty? Really? I’ve served on three juries, and almost got into a fist fight in one case. I RELISH fights with liberals. Jury duty yet another way for me to be an active operative for the cause. I say BRING IT!!

“Welcome you the FR. Bet I have been here longer.”

I bet she/he has been here longer, too.

Probably under several different nics.

Retreads always give themselves away.

Well, we’ll have to see how the votes go after the dems get a chance to instill fear in people about cuts in Medicare and other programs. I have a feeling that fear of losing one’s own bennies will far outweigh suspicion that a program can not be sustained for however many generations.

Can someone please summarize what’s really, really bad about Ryan?

1) He is A Conservative and the MSM and Democrats Really Hate Conservatives.

2) He is intelligent and articulate and the Dems and MSM really hate that a Conservative is able to explain his philosophy clearly. They tend to lose big when that happens.

3) He is a Republican, Nuff Said there.

4) He isn't Obama and therefore is not god!

Need more?

Bears repeating:

Our first order of business (and our most important) is getting the socialist out of the White House. The battle with the RINOs comes later.

Mitch McConnel wasn't on the short list and Rubio, though electrifying and a great up and comer in the party is no more articulate than Ryan. I wouild take Rubio or Ryan, but Anyone else on the short list is a SNOOZER. Bob McDonnald is OK, but Pawlenty? Portman, BORING WHITE GUYS! At least Ryan brings real experience and gravitas into the picture from a budgetary standpoint.

‘Ryan is a RINO’

How So?

To some of the people here it would seem that Reagan would be a RINO. How about we nominate Attila the Hun he is pretty right wing. Is that right enough for you? Of course he probably doesn't even have a FAKE Hawaii Birth Certificate. Of course he is also dead which could be a real problem.

Ryan is a REALIST and a Conservative Republican. He is wicked smart. He is 100% Pro-life, 100% Pro-tarditional marriage, a practicing Roman Catholic and a damn fine Congressman who just happens to be the budget committee chairman.

He is a good choice and solidifies the base.

RE :”disaster

As with 2008 that was determined before the VP pink.

Ryan is NO Scott Walker, not close. Not a bit.

Stay tuned, will be interesting.

Because Portman is as dull as dish water. I live in Ohio, voted for him AND sent him fifty bucks for his election and I couldn't pick him out of a crowd. Neither can anyone else.

He is also GWB’s former budget director. The LESS we bring up GWB the better, weather that is fair or not it is true.

It doesn’t do anything to the wind in his sails. Most people are not tuned in on a Friday night and will have all weekend to dominate the Monday - Friday news cycle next week.
