Mitt Romney announcing VP pick at the USS Wisconsin (home state of Paul Ryan)
Washington Examiner ^ | 10 August 2012 | Joel Gehrke

“Romney will announce his choice for Vice President in Norfolk, Virginia at 8:45am EST,” Romney campaign spokesman Lenny Alcivar told reporters in an email this evening.

The announcement is being made at the USS Wisconsin. It’s still unclear whom he will choose, but the odds that it is Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., seemed to increase when National Review’s Robert Costa noted that a charter plane flew from Boston to Ryan’s hometown of Janesville, Wis., today.

How do they bash Ryan’s budget? All Romney/Ryan have to do is say, “Where’s your budget?!”

They’ll get steamrolled just like 2010. Ryan won a moderate district 67-30. They love him! Women like him! He’s a strong family man and very personable.

Fantastic selection!

I remember how impressed I was with Ryan during the 'Economic Summit,' and how ticked off Obama looked as Ryan was obviously spot on. Ryan has a way of articulating that makes you feel, "Well, there's no arguing that."

Can't wait for the VP debate!

You make a great point that Republicans should be shouting. When in history have we been without a budget? The socialists cannot defend this... they had the votes for the first two years of Hussein’s tyranny. Why is this not a daily topic of discussion????

Rubio is a better choice and the preferred choice from several GOP polls. Ryan would be an easy target, though a great conservative. If he is it, he would be good regardless, just think Rubio would be slightly better and not a lightning rod.

Regardless, it looks almost certain that he’s it with the charter flight etc.

Sorry, you don’t HAVE the choice of staying home this time, if you give a damn about the future of this country.

I refuse to vote for another country club RINO at the top of the ticket. I do give a damn about the future of this country... But not enough to waste my vote on a country club liberal like Romney. No matter who his running mate is.

The contrast between Ryan and Biden will be immense. Ryan will destroy him in the VP debate.

True but considering no one watches the VP debate and a changed vote because of it would be a real rarity, I don't think it matters.

But what about the Republican vote ???

I isn't just Democrats who are concerned about student loans and health care when they get old (I am not defending that point of view -- just saying people vote on issues that cost them money or cause them fear).

Good choice but in reality nobody votes for the VP. Maybe this will get more of the base to the polls, though.

You are not a tactician or warrior. I am not a big fan of Romney either, but you have to take a tactical approach to this. Our first order of business (and our most important) is getting the socialist out of the White House. The battle with the RINOs comes later. I want to save this country for my kids... not tell them to move somewhere else because we allowed Hussein to win because we wanted to make a point with RINOs. That... would be an embarrassing legacy.

I disagree that the presidential election is about economy, jobs, etc. It has become a popularity contest where votes are cast for the flavor of the moment. The 10% percent we need to win are political and historical ignorants who hear only the soundbites. They KNOW Ryan wants to push granny of the cliff and will listen to reason no further.

I love Paul Ryan’s ideas but I’m informed, you’re informed, the middling 10% are goddamned idiots!!!!

Since Oct 10' I have been saying Watch Michigan, thanky you.....

At the very least, Repubs should have counters on websites showing when the last budget was passed.

The key point is that the running mate choice says a lot about what candidate Romney will define as the key foundation of his campaign. Obama picked Biden as the ‘grown-up’ up on the ticket. This choice has been an unmitigated disaster.

Romney has picked Ryan as a serious, ideological conservative who is relevant now and is very relevant as we move into the future. This is a great choice for now and the future. This ticket looks serious in comparison to the Obama/Biden ticket, which looks unserious, incompetent and silly. I really like the contrast.

I will support Ryan, but is Ryan a person that can credibly counter the Mediscare etc. that will come on? Hope so. I am sorry, but Ryan is the DREAM VP pick for the Obama campaign!

Love the guy and think he would be a great VP.....but I admit that does worry me.

What good is voting for Romney in New York going to do anyway. The fact of the matter is that my vote down the line won’t matter in this liberal hell hole. My Congresscriter is an entrenched liberal and there’s no way the idiots in this state jettison the Gillibrand in the Senate race.

So the question boils down to the following: is standing with a RINO in a state where he’ll lose by 20 points worth jury duty. At the end of the day, the answer is no.

I’ve campaigned for Bush despite some reservations. I held my nose and voted for McLame. I refuse to vote for another RINO. Enough is enough already.

I am pretty much sold at this point. BTW.....it’s in Virginia at the USS Wisconsin.

There is NO WAY it’s anybody but Ryan. The plane and location confirms it.

I will eat liver tomorrow if it’s not. And I hate that.....

Ryan is a great choice because he is Catholic - he can talk economics and freedom of religion!

Think common sense "Macomb County Democrats, AKA "The Reagan Democrats", think what Oboingo did to Freedom or Religion and contract law with the Sibillius Mandate.

Catholics and the Church are pissed, and they are looking for all this to end. Having a Catholic on the Ticket can't hurt. WI, OH, MI and PA IMHO are in serious play....
