Mitt Romney announcing VP pick at the USS Wisconsin (home state of Paul Ryan)
Washington Examiner ^ | 10 August 2012 | Joel Gehrke

“Romney will announce his choice for Vice President in Norfolk, Virginia at 8:45am EST,” Romney campaign spokesman Lenny Alcivar told reporters in an email this evening.

The announcement is being made at the USS Wisconsin. It’s still unclear whom he will choose, but the odds that it is Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., seemed to increase when National Review’s Robert Costa noted that a charter plane flew from Boston to Ryan’s hometown of Janesville, Wis., today.

From what I am reading about Ryan’s voting record on conservative issues (both social and fiscal/spending), he is a really bright light. But I still believe he will lose many more votes than he will gain.

I hope you are correct. But in my 50 years of life as a political junkie, I can’t recall an election where entitlement reform was a winner for GOP.

But I fully realize the time for fun and games is now long gone. The country is on a path to financial disaster unless entitlement reform is enacted and soon. And Ryan has the verbal skills and knowledge on that issue better than any one else. I truly hope Ryan will succeed in convincing the middleclass that his proposals are the only way to save future entitlements.

Some people are just afraid the left will hammer us over the head because he wants to fix Medicare and Social Security. Who cares!

Well, you should care if it causes the election to be lost.

There comes a time when you must draw a line in the sand. If we are afraid to nominate people for fear of being demonized by the Dems and MSM, then we deserve to lose.

We are at a crossroads. The American people need a clear choice. I would have preferred Ryan at the head of the ticket, but he can be effective as VP if Romney delegates the economy and budget issues to Ryan. There is no Rep who knows the budget and economic issus better than Ryan or is as articulate as him.

Because so many people are dependent on government programs which they fear will be cut if he is elected. Can you really disagree with that?

Mitt Romney just made a major step in solidifying his victory in November. Paul Ryan is the very best choice he could make. This is a clear signal that Romney will lead with reforming our seriously diseased federal government. Obama attacked Paul Ryan personally over Ryan’s plan to restabilize our federal finances. There is no more credible and serious legislator in Congress today on matters of our financial sustainability.

MSNBC is on right now with David Gregory, Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell right now licking their chops on how the Left will attack Ryan. This is the fight we need and want now.

Time for conservatives to coalesce behind this ticket! Romney has made the best choice for America! Go Romney / Ryan 2012!

Correct on everything you said. Rubio was the no-brainer. This is the wrong choice unless he is keeping Rubio in Congress for a reason. But he would have been a slam dunk for the Latino vote and picking up Florida.

Well, the truth is, if you are in a battleground state, vote the heck for Romney. Period. You can’t believe in constitutional America and do otherwise.

If the choice is Ryan, it demonstrates to me that Romney is serious about addressing the perils that confront this nation.

Good point. Ryan will have to articulate his positions to the average voter and 'connect well' with them. The average American really doesn't understand, in my opinion, that Obama is trying to destroy the country and what the eventual consequences of our debt and unfunded liabilities are.

God Bless Paul Ryan. Pray for America and defeat of Obama.

I agree! Great looking family.

I believe that Paul Ryan is a great choice for VP as well... generally a conservative outlook in most areas, and is not labelled as pro-amnesty, like Rubio would have been... plus Rubio has been spouting off & pandering to the leftist media in his attacks on Michelle Bachmann. I think Rubio would have been a flaming RINO, and the dems would destroy him.

They do it every election anyway! They made Paul Ryan the poster child of 2010 and got their brains beat in!

Fighting like a coward (Dole/McCain) is a loser! Standing up for what you believe wins! (Reagan).

But I still believe he will lose many more votes than he will gain.

Disagree. The contrast between Ryan and Biden will be immense. Ryan will destroy him in the VP debate. And Ryan's competence and articulateness will serve Romnye well on the hustings. I can remember vividly how Ryan challenged Obama directly when Obama met with Congress on the budget. Ryan demonstrated what an empty suit Obama really is.

[ I like Ryan. I don’t like romney. I will stay home but the future is bright. ]

So you are not even going to vote in down ticket races? That doesn’t make much sense to me at all.
