Romney holds biggest fund-raiser in Iowa history
CNN ^ | August 7 2012 | Dana Davidsen

Mitt Romney made Iowa state fund-raising history Tuesday evening by bringing in between $1.8 and $2 million at an event in West Des Moines, a Romney aide confirmed.

"Because of your participation and your presence here tonight, this event, in this room at this time is the largest and most successful presidential fundraiser we have ever had in the history of the state of Iowa," David Oman, Romney's Iowa state chair, told a crowd of supporters.

Romney, whose campaign organization has out-raised President Barack Obama's for the past three months, spoke to roughly 280 top dollar donors at a country club in West Des Moines. Tickets for the event ranged from $2,000 to $50,000...

Romney also talked about his recently unveiled five-step economic recovery plan at the fund-raiser.

In attendance were some of Iowa's top politicos, including Rep. Steve King; Matt Strawn, former Iowa Republican Party chairman; Kyle Krause, owner of Kum & Go convenience store chain; as well as a large contingent of Iowa senators and representatives. Gov. Terry Branstad and Sen. Chuck Grassley, who were both honorary co-chairs of the event, were not in attendance due to schedule conflicts.

Obama will also travel to Iowa next week for a three-day tour, visiting seven cities between Monday and Wednesday.

Iowa launched Obama's presidential bid in 2008 after he won the state's first-in-the-nation caucus. Iowa later handed him a 10-point victory over Republican opponent Sen. John McCain in the general election.

The state is seen as a toss up between incumbent Obama and Romney, each polling at 44% in a NBC News/Marist poll conducted in May.

LOL, where are Romney’s $3 campaign appeals?

That seems to be working so well for the Pres__ent Resident.

Oh that’s right. He’s not that desperate.

I’ve actually gotten emails from Romney’s campaign suggesting that the minimum money to donate is $3, but they don’t nearly come off as desperate as the Obama campaign.

The Associated Press noted that “a sheik (sheek) is an Arab leader. Sikhs (seeks) trace their religion to South Asia.”

How many gaffs has the Pres__ent Resident made that went unreported?  And then this...

The DNCp is in full melt-down panic mode.

Yeah, that’s probably a formality associated with what the credit card firms have told them they would like to have considered the bottom. They’re asking folks not to donate lower than $3 due to a request by the CC firms.

Obama flat out asks for $3 dollars. Ouch, that’s got to sting a little.

Thanks for the mention.

Good folks, I know that there are scores and scores of Freepers that cannot stand Mitt Romney, and I clearly get it. But.....now is truly the time for all good men & women to come to the aid of theri country and future, especially for our children.

So.....I am just asking and requesting that folks, after Labor Day, make a $3.00-$5.00 contribution to the Romney campaign. Just think a moment. If all the GOP voters that voted in the Texas (800,000 votes) and Missouri (600,000 votes) primaries gave Romney $3.00 each, the Romney campaign would have $4,200,000 in contributions.

I know Romney is doing well with fundraising, but....I believe victory over Obama and his Democrat thugs, that are trying to destroy our great country, will take million of bucks to counter. Jane & Joe, average Americans have got to fess up....and save this great Republic.

Thanks for reading and heeding!!!

I just donated. We must all do what we can to throw out the disgrace and sham currently occupying the WH, then we must and, already are, replacing rinos with conservatives, from state legislatures to congress. Right now, first thing first, throw Obama and his socialist/communist brethren out.

This is great news imo people are freaking out way too early. First off, it’s early in the campaign, the serious campaigning doesn’t begin until after labor day. Secondly Romney is out fundraising Obama in cash, and that cash will be spent in late August, and after the convention. Third, the media is pinning Odumbo’s “lead” on manufactured polls that have been oversampling Dems. It’s not in the bag yet, but Romney has a real good shot at winning this.

I see you are still trying to suppress the Republican vote. That only helps Obama and the dimoKKKRATS. I could conclude you are trying to help the Marxist.

Or, perhaps I’m simply expressing my opinion, one that is based on actual experience with the folks in question, and which concerns the political health of my state.

If anyone is trying to “suppress” anything, it’s you.

What the media never talks about is the billions in in-kind donations from the media itself, the fawning coverage that you couldn’t buy with all the money in the world and the union money that’s never reported on, along with hundreds of thousands of boots on the ground. Gov. Romney may be winning the FEC money-raising competition, but Mr. Obama has many built-in advantages that Team Romney has to overcome. If every conservative family gave just $100 to the campaign, they could overcome all that. I’m as poor as a church mouse, but I’m guessing we’ve already sent $100 or more.
